Nice work. Good review, and a cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org
I got very professional time-lapse videos with camera! cool sunset videos!
a asked lot of artist and professionals and they prefer nikon over canon but i still bought canon, no reason in particular. In terms of quality both has good quality. i chose canon bec i feel ii trust the brand more than nikon. :-) i check out my page, i upload some photos taken using my canon 500d. :) thanks
Loving all your comments on all these great cameras! I just bought the 40D with the 17-85 IS. Only a few left in shops here in Ireland. Only problem i had was the price...€999 was the cheapest here and £823 in England which works out more. D90 is again a great camera 50D also but if i had the money i would get the D300. For now my 40D is going to keep me very happy...its an awesome camera and would advise anyone to go out and snap up the few remaining 40D's that are left.
im looking at 2 cameras, either the canon eos 40d or the nikon d90.
my backgraound is as a skateboarding photographer (toungue in cheek but thats what im using it for) aswell as everyday travel photos as i go about my life lol
im struggling to dcide between the additional megapixels and aperture capobilities (high speed shooting in low light conditions) of the d90 or the 6.5 frames a second of the canon. soz if i mad any idioty mistakes in this, but all helps good :)
You're welcome, although success is not guaranteed. If you've not used the card after the format, you should be able to get most, if not all, data back. If you've already shot some pictures with it, chances are that you've really wiped the original data. Fingers crossed. I like the freeware utility pc inspector to recover lost data, but others might do the job just as well.
after watching all these videos im thinking the 40d is better because you can save the 310 bucks for better glass everyone has said get L series beacuse there the best
I'm going to a school on filmmaking, and am very into photography. I skateboard, and I want to take skateboard photography. I want something with a fast shutter speed, good picture quality, and not terribly expensive. I'm not a pro but have moved past amateur range. Any ideas on what I should get? thanks...
i am also a skateboarder who is into photography and such. i am planning on getting the rebel ti1. it has a fast shutter speed and also takes HD video. the framerate at full hd is only 20fps. thats where a vx1000/2000 comes in handy.
i skate as well and i have taken skate photos for a while. my advice is to get a camera that is pretty rugged because you dont want to be worrying about breaking it since when you take photos you are very close to the floor. I am using a canon 300d at the moment and it works fine for me but the processing is to slow so my advice is to buy a camera with a very quick processor since when people are trying tricks its pretty rapid
I have the 40D for a few months now. I got it with the kit lens EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. This lens is a good "starter" lens but to really get the most out of the 10.1 MP CMOS Sensor get L lenses as soon as you can afford it. Canon L lenses are really fucking expensive... but worth every penny... the first image from L glass you take, you will immediately see a difference from the kit lens. Overall, I'm really happy with the 40D's performance.
Hey, i've waited months to get the 40D at a good price, the 50D is out since some months now and the 40D is disappearing from stores every weeks till the sold all their 40D. I'm so gonna get mine the next week ! i'm so impatient, it's gonna feet perfectly with my EF-S 10-22 USM :)
I'm deciding on a digital SLR and am a little confused on what to get. I want good quality but i don't want to replace My T2 Film SLR. I just want to use the same lenses when i cant afford to lug around a bunch of film. Can anyone help? Deciding between the 450d, 40d, and maybe the 50d. Like i said it's more of a backup camera and i don't want to spend to much on it.
I have the 40D and am glad I bought it. I take sports pictures for my local club and it has a very fast shutter speed. The EF-S 17-85 IS USM Lense bundled with the camera is good but not indoors I'd look at what lense suites your needs and go for that with the camera. I later purchased an EF 50mm f/1.8 lense which gives better pictures indoors and is ok for sports pics too (its cheap but good). Don't forget the 40D uses EF fit lenses.
What i dislike about this camera is the 1.4 crop factor. You go out and spend hundreds if not thousands on a lens and because of the crop factor you end up using only a small percentage of your lenses potential. Its very frustrating actually. Nothing is more annoying than having limited space to work with & then having your 50-mm crop like a 70-mm.
That aside Its an excellent camera for the price. I agree with many reviewers complaints such as buttons being too small and not well placed. (controls are horrid actually) but the image quality is good; even at night using the 3200 boost. just be sure to buy a 10-22 mm lens or this camera will piss you off.
No Matter how Canon looks at it, They are getting a serious beating from Nikon in the mid-range to professional price bracket, their Flagship MarkII is just as lame as the 1000D.
The problem with you is YOU NEVER laid your hands on a D90, Well I did...compared both for 3 days using both the canon 1.8 50mm and the Nikkor 1.8 50mm (I AVOIDED KIT LENSES in my testing bcoz Nikon's kit are clearly superior..both prime lenses are super sharp,Now is that FAIR ENough?) From landscapes to child portraits...The D90 clearly renders detail, near perfect metering and color accuracy...I will take D90's superior ergonomics and 920K dot LCD screen ANYTIME over the 40D's weather sealing
I currently own a Nikon D700. the D90 is an awesome piece especially with the fact it can shoot HD video. which is something I wish my old Eos 40D could of done. I still miss my Eos 40d's burst speed tho. It all depends on the individual users needs. Thats why I laugh at the fanboys in the threads.
I own a D90, my brother owns a 40d...he regretted buying this camera lol BETTER performance in low-light BETTER LCD (uhmm waaay better) BETTER resolution MORE ACCURATE color rendition Has HD video! BETTER controland ergonomics CHEAPER How about the 40D? Weather-sealing,Durable (?),More FPS for shooting sports.... That's it, Canon created a flop out of a 40D that's why they slashed-down its price LOL
Yeah it's funny at the entry level Canon thoroughly thumps Nikon but as soon as you move to the 40d/d90 price point and higher Nikons are clearly the better camera.
Its really a case of weighing up which features are more important to you, and which manufacturer offers the lenses which best suit your requirements. Ultimately the D90 out-gadgets the EOS 40D with its movie mode, VGA screen and HDMI output, but the Canon is better-suited to semi-pro use with its superior build, quicker shooting and PC Sync terminal. These are the HARD FACTS. Take them as you will.
You are correct. I was thinking of the 5D being a better camera. As for the 50D if it can focus on whites better then Im all for it. But I would not buy one to replace a 40D. the 40D actually outperforms the 50D in most test.
You say what you feel but tests in labs shows that EOS-40 D got better performance in some parameters its even close to Nikon D300 so i would put it in higher class also there are more good lenses for it , i saw youre using medium class lesnes on yr vid if your bro do the same you can have a low idea about potencial of this photo camera (VGA LCD,HD videosmaybe you like it but EOS 40 d is semi pro camera and pros dont use such gadgets the most imprortant is quality of pictures )
heliospan1, I bought the XSi and returned it, because I found it a little too limited for me, and I wanted the superior build quality of the 40D.
If all you care about is image quality you could save yourself some money and get the XSi. That and the better FPS, shutter life, etc (not to mention build quality and ergo) makes the 40D a clear winner. pixels is not IQ!
2011 and I've upgraded from 20D to 40D, 60D felt like cheap plastic :)

You will not be able to tell any difference in IQ between the XSi and the 40D.
