However, in other episodes, they do zoom in on the real Thames House and cut to inside the Grid. I believe part of the reason is that Freemason Hall looks a lot better as a grand entrance than the real MI5 HQ.

The American's do different sorts of things.. more about strengthening control rather than attacking per se. Russia was just defending itself during those conficts. Stalin even made an alliance with Hitler during WW2. Not to mention Stalins brutal treatment of the Polish people at the time. Honestly, the only reason Russia switched sides in 1941 was because of a common enemy. If Germany hadn't attacked Russia, they'd have been allies until the end of the war.

The proof; Once Hitler was defeated, Russia tore up its alliance with the USA/UK and began seizing all of Eastern Europe.
