I drive my truck because it has a V8, tow every once in a while, but I really just like driving it. Similar situations like this have happened to me and that's when I inform them that those lithium batteries powering their car are worse for the environment than my truck. @ChuffChuffWoo How long have you owned it? Buying these cars new from the dealership is not the best investment. You have to put over 100 thousand miles on them just to break even on the increased cost. If you don't plan to keep it that long you're better off buying a high MPG non-hybrid. As for the batteries we shall see how long they truly last.
@DorkVader26 Bought second hand and have had it six years, It's the only car in the family that hasn't gone wrong (until I put the wrong fuel in it and gummed up the rings - now fixed) It's only ever needed new front pads in 70k miles of motoring. Nice to drive too.
@ChuffChuffWoo I paid $3000 three years ago for my '97 Saturn. Replaced brakes last summer, and one front bearing. That's it. It has 187,000 miles, and I've never washed the plastic body. Starts great at -30F.

Pads and Rotors have to be replaced every 16 thousand miles or so. I've had to spend over $16,000 repairing it so far. Keep putting off buying another car but this spring I'm getting rid of it.
@DorkVader26 A taxi company that runs Toyota Corollas has to replace the pads every 8 weeks, they tried a prius, the pads lasted 18 months, the battery lasted lasted 600k km (about 400k miles) and the car is still going at around 600k miles. The Prius uses the motor/battery to do all the hard work, so brakes, clutches, torque converters, starter motors, alternators and all the stuff the generally plays up on an old car has been minimised or eliminated - the current Prius does not have any belts

I absolutely agree with the Prius owner. Mose communities in my state have laws against idling a vehicle for more than 3 minutes unless it's freezing -- and of course, all windows are closed in that case. This is to save the environment and to reduce annoyance. People who think they"need" a large SUV should by all logic have an efficient mini-van or family sedan or hybrid instead of a 4-ton behemoth, and if not, they should have enough sense to shut the damn thing off when stopped.

My Prius is 14 years old ( yes they were made back then) and it was built using mostly recycled materials plus it is also on a recycled HV battery pack now, It dose 58mpg ( i've checked it several times). SO when are SUV drivers that are wasting all raw materials going to pay back the fuel that they have wasted ( which is unrecoverable) in their 10-20mpg SUV's.
So Elkabong53708 the SUV's do have a huge carbon foot print, unless you just keep yours in the drive and fondle it once and a while!

I have 2 UAW made 30 mpg cars, a Saturn and a Focus. I may be doing more for the environment by keeping these cars going for as long as possible than this sanctimonious woman. Real liberals support wealth creators in THIS country, not foreign non-union cars or those wastefully shipped via petroleum fueled tankers 1000's of miles. BTW, the Chevy Volt gets better mileage, is made here, and was largely engineered by American women.

You have to put over 100 thousand miles on them just to break even on the increased cost. If you don't plan to keep it that long you're better off buying a high MPG non-hybrid. As for the batteries we shall see how long they truly last.

@DorkVader26 Bought second hand and have had it six years, It's the only car in the family that hasn't gone wrong (until I put the wrong fuel in it and gummed up the rings - now fixed) It's only ever needed new front pads in 70k miles of motoring. Nice to drive too.

@ChuffChuffWoo Not half bad so far. Better then my 350z I bought a 2004 305z brand new in January 2004. I have 98 thousand miles on it. The car has been the biggest pile of crap I've ever owned. Pads and Rotors have to be replaced every 16 thousand miles or so. I've had to spend over $16,000 repairing it so far. Keep putting off buying another car but this spring I'm getting rid of it.

@DorkVader26 A taxi company that runs Toyota Corollas has to replace the pads every 8 weeks, they tried a prius, the pads lasted 18 months, the battery lasted lasted 600k km (about 400k miles) and the car is still going at around 600k miles. The Prius uses the motor/battery to do all the hard work, so brakes, clutches, torque converters, starter motors, alternators and all the stuff the generally plays up on an old car has been minimised or eliminated - the current Prius does not have any belts

I absolutely agree with the Prius owner. Mose communities in my state have laws against idling a vehicle for more than 3 minutes unless it's freezing -- and of course, all windows are closed in that case. This is to save the environment and to reduce annoyance. People who think they"need" a large SUV should by all logic have an efficient mini-van or family sedan or hybrid instead of a 4-ton behemoth, and if not, they should have enough sense to shut the damn thing off when stopped.

My Prius is 14 years old ( yes they were made back then) and it was built using mostly recycled materials plus it is also on a recycled HV battery pack now, It dose 58mpg ( i've checked it several times). SO when are SUV drivers that are wasting all raw materials going to pay back the fuel that they have wasted ( which is unrecoverable) in their 10-20mpg SUV's.
So Elkabong53708 the SUV's do have a huge carbon foot print, unless you just keep yours in the drive and fondle it once and a while!

Toyota just brushed off with their comments about the Prius as everyone knows the Batteries are made in the factory adjoining the Prius production line.

funny thing is her car is worse for the environment than his truck. the batteries they use destroy the environment where they mine the lithium for them. not only that but they must replace the batteries every 100,000 miles so they will have to replace the batteries at least once for the life of the car. Not only that but they must dispose of the batteries and there is no safe, non polluting way to do that so when it's all said and done Prius' are worse for the environment than any car out there!
