The $5,000 is not to pay for medical procedures/doctor visits, etc...it's to purchased new health insurance which will pay for health services.

I find most of these debates are about what I think versus about what you think and then the shouting matches take off. I challenge all of you to give inputs to what you think is needed versus what someone in Congress wants. If we have everyone's inputs, those inputs could come under consideration for a bill that covers everyone equally.

I think state exchanges is a very good idea. I also know that medicaid and medicare especially would not be breaking the system if the goverment would qite dipping their hands into the system. When the medicare system was orginally set up it was not to be touched or used in any other way than what it was allocated for and this has not happened.

This plan as I understand it is inadequate. 5000 dollars on a tax card? This is not going to pay a day's stay in a hospital. What is needed is insurance reform and malpractice reform to bring down costs & the gov. assists (those who cannot afford to get health insurance) by helping to pay for monthly premiums. Everyone should be  required to have some kind of health insurance who comes into this country. You all know Medicare is too expensive for youth to pay for all us baby boomers.

The reason medicare is so expensive under the current system is it's trying to compete with insurance costs! A flat 3-6,000 for everyone? That costs more than Obama's plan without even factoring the inflation in health care costs this would create. The biggest winner here is insurance companies and most people who can't afford insurance will still be short because this credit isn't enough to cover the entire cost.

I'll tell you what's offensive. Denying people healthcare is offensive. Forcing people in bankruptcy to save their lives is offensive. Getting rich off of people getting sick is offensive. Doctors who won't take medicaid is offensive. If doctors are so in love with money they should have went into business not medicine. Agreed...and it's also interesting that ~60% of doctors in the US support a universal healthcare plan, but that's never brought up and was refused as an option by the Obama administration. Insurance and pharmaceutical companies with politicians such as this clown speaker in their fat pockets are the real culprits. It turns my stomach too.

Hate to introduce you to the world. But doctors want to help people, but they don't go to school for over seven years to make peanuts. Health care is a privilege, not a right. This was not an issue a hundred years ago. People with money have always gotten better health care. That's just life.

Because we are already in way too much debt, and our government can not afford to foot the bills for everyone. Americas have the freedom to work and have their own pursuit of happiness. That does not mean we have to all have identical lifestyles. I respect you for your thoughts though. As it would be nice if we can figure out some type of basic health care for all Americans. But we are in way too much debt right now to take Obama's plan seriously.

Who's being denied? Most of those in this country without health care are illegal aliens and many of the rest are making a personal choice to spend that money elsewhere which is their choice but not my problem.

Kudos to Rep. Ryan for actually coming up with a plan with some meat to it. I would be open to hearing further details, but from off the top, I don't see how this will work without getting heathcare costs under control, which seems to be a major factor. A 5-10K card won't go very far when you can blow that with one illness.

It's definitely a starting point and it's good to see actual ideas flowing instead of old, rehashed talking points. A move in the right direction...
