@TheBraveGunner google it, if you have a right amount of mem chips, just flash a gtx40 bios on it, 9 out of 10 times a gtx465 is a gtx470 with a other bios on it
Very nice PC. Power one. I love to see on CPU test 1 ,5500 OPS relly nice ,mine here only get 1500 OPS,but on CPU 2 becouse i have 1 GT240 as PHYSX i can get 100 OPS .its almost 2x more than 980X . But who cares ?? we know if we enable the Physx on the games will be a little slow if you have a GPU as physx. I relly like to see your system working. My next PC will have same average like your (i hope).
@Trubyd44 Yes, yes I do! Checked it out, also a very nice build! Love the Mountain Mods case (it is a mountain mod right?) And I don't think your temps are high at all. If you were running at stock cooling then you would be at like 100C with those cards on load! hahaha I must say, you sir make some very insane builds!
@tech2kn0w Only if they are clocked higher. A 5970 could easily get to as high a clock as a 5870 could especially on water cooling so if you were to do so then they would run the same. If you left it at stock, then yes, 4x 5870s would be better but remember that will run hotter, use a lot more energy, and requires a 4 way CFX board.
@jondiyolahe hehe. I'd say that with the Vantage benchmark and a Phenom II X6 overclocked to 4.5GHz would be close to even my dual X5680s because Vantage is more of a GPU benchmark. Put up anything AMD X6, X10 or whatever they make and put it up against a single 980X in Cinebench 11.5 and the AMD gets destroyed. :)
only me that saw alot of artifacts/wierd stuff in the graphics? like blue random stuff, white big dots etc? maybe thats what they call microstuttering? just never seen it before... maybe thats a result of using dual ati cards?
@honitsten No, I haven't got that good at using Sony Vegas PRO 9.0 yet. That is actually a song that comes free with W7. I did use Vegas to put it into the video, but didn't create the music or anything. The next upgrade you need to get is to goto the 136 socket...any of them, including the 920. You'll see a huge improvement across the board.
@honitsten Oh, check out my Resident Evil 5 benchmark video...I really got to using Picture in Picture for data while running benchmarks. Vegas is really super smooth.
I just got so many questions, because i want the ATI 6,000 series, and Fermi, and a good sound system (bookshelf speakers). I just need to know how to make this perfect, how to do this right. How to do really good cable management, and how to set up a neat looking liquid cooling build.
I was trting to do a front radiator thing with the MOnsta Radiator, as a first loop for the CPU, and memory), and a Second Loop which would be a dual radiator with a custom cut on top for the GPU's, and Mofset/Chipsets. I just wanted to know that if I did a full build of liquid, and had 2 loops which parts in looping should be paired together?
@thegreyvingian I would do GPUs by themselves on one loop and everything else including the CPU on a second loop. The GPUs will give off the most heat.
thanks for showing me the dual GPU light. but, can you make a DUAL GPU card as fast as 2 5870, or even surpass 2 5870's? Because im trying to build PC's for me and my brother, that include a i7 980x, and i get intel DUAL GPU, and he gets Nvidia Dual Gpu. I just hope that nvidia doesn't pull the gtx 295 trick again.
But buttom line i am Intel/ATI and he is Intel/Nvidia.
(this isn't going to happen until 2011, so i have time)
WOW! I just want to say your series of videos are totally awesome. My 980X is arriving tomorrow and the two XFX 5970 Black Editions are sitting right next to me. I'm thinking of modding a HAF 932 with an internal triple and double radiator (Fesers) - do you think that's about equivalent to your dedicated external cooler?
@jwigeland I really don't think so. Remember the ERM-2K3U can remove 2000W of heat. I can only guess what the Fesers will do. The Fesers are the best radiators you can buy. My buddy had 3 GTX280s with a QX9770 and he had a single triple feser radiator and that thing was HOT to the touch...I mean HOT, you couldn't hold your hand to it...he then went out and bought an ERM-2K3U. :)
@Trubyd44 Well, a Feser triple does about 700w with 2000rpm fans and the double is probably close to 2/3 that, so about 1150w total between the two of them. The 980X has a TDP of 130w and the 5970s have a TDP of 300 stock (so a total of 730w in the loop at stock volts and speeds). The Fesers should work, but no doubt that 2000w dedicated cooler can handle a significant OC. How fast do you have your 980X running when you bench?
@jwigeland I think that will be fine, but it would be warmer then I'd want to run them. Also, I take it that you will be using air from inside the case --that is another factor. I think you should send your Feser's back and get the Koolance. :D I clock mine at almost 4.6Ghz when benching.
@Trubyd44 Thanks the Fesers aren't here yet. I'm cautious about mixing the aluminum in the koolance unit with the copper of my CPU block (Apogee XT), and since I have my desk oriented a certain way my current machine is in reverse ATX (which the ERM can't do). I'm also considering a custom loop using a magicool turbo 1080, but either way your build is an inspiration. Thanks!
@jwigeland Look at my buddies ERM-2K3U listed under BluSkul's build and he has the Raven RV02 and uses the Koolance with it. I'm telling you, it'll be the last watercooling unit you buy. Glad I could help! (Oh, he also is using the Apogee XT as well in his build)
@Trubyd44 Nice! Hey - what driver/ version of Catalyst/ Afterburner are you using? I spent all weekend trying to get these 5970s to work and I had no success...
@Trubyd44 Thanks - I went back to AMD's beta release drivers and am doing okay so far... I don't suppose you know how to enable manual fan control on the second card since you watercooled yours (that's the only stumbling block I have now is lack of fan control - and I did update the BIOS on both cards). Thanks!
@jwigeland If you have the checkbox under settings checked that will operate all 'alike' cards the same way. IF you set the first cards fan to 100% it will automatically set the second card's fan the same way.
I think your next mod should definitely be a dedicated PhysX card, trust me, it's a solid investment and quite cheap depending on which card you go with and will add plenty of frames to any games that rely on PhysX for physics rendering. That is, if you have the open PCI-e slot.
@skorpion47 I have had a physX card. It was an EVGA 9800GT 1Gb...but I kept having driver issues with it and the ATI cards. For instance, I could run them both, but when I had physX enabled, I couldn't use MSI Afterburner to overclock my HD5970s. So it was either have a physX card and no overclocking or take the physX card out and clock my 5970s...of course performance wise the latter was better. :)
@Trubyd44 I see. Well I don't know about your case but for someone I've talked to, he had two 5870's in CF and Bad Company 2 (a game dependent on PhysX) ran the same as it did with 1 5870, where the frame rate would drop from a constant 60 to about 35-45fps whenever buildings would break apart, either with a single GPU or with both it was the same result. He then added a low-end PhysX card and the frames would never dip from 60 again. Maybe though, 2 5970's is powerhouse enough to do the job eh?
Good keyboard, does your performance monitor on it show a graph for each core or just one graph for total CPU activity? It doesn't show 6 cores for mine, but I thought I seen somewhere a screenshot that showed 4 graphs for a quad core.
@Trubyd44 No, there is a graph that came with the software that show just total use of cpu. But i use core temp so i can see the use of each core anyway. but its just text and no fancy graph :b.
You know...I've never been a dual CPU kind of guy. There is just too much that you give up to have a system like that. That is why I never bought Skulltrail. I've seen the board though and it DOES look wicked.
I really like your Rig ,but Run Fraps in the corner during the benchmark ( FRAPS as fps counter ONLY DOES NOT affect Performance ,only if you record with it)... We can't tell how it runs in different parts,So...
Can you not see the FPS that Vantage runs at the bottom? I can see the FPS that it shows for most of the video, there are some parts it's hard to see. I actually disable FRAPS when I run Vantage due to Vantage already displaying it. Maximize the picture on your monitor, you should be able to see it.
@Trubyd44 I tried , it's too hard to make out consistently , I don't know about 3D Mark scores , But I ran 5 Game benchmarks 3x's each On/OFF with Fraps running only as a counter and I got =/- 1 fps difference (actually 1 fps more with it on 40% of the time) ....
@mrjamesb56 Averages are too miss leading ,Take H.A.W.K bench mark test for example , During the movie Parts for me it runs at 150 fps , during most of the game play it runs at 75 fps , at the end of the benchmark it says 110 fps average , Well that's not really the case...
That sounds like a good benchmark to run. I need to download Crysis...as I've been playing so many other games lately that I hadn't downloaded it since I reinstalled the OS. I'll try and do that this upcoming weekend and post.
how much u spend your money for this???

How well can this computer play crysis at 1920x1200 with 8xAA and 16xAF with all settings on max settings. Would like to see some benchmarks.

That sounds like a good benchmark to run. I need to download Crysis...as I've been playing so many other games lately that I hadn't downloaded it since I reinstalled the OS. I'll try and do that this upcoming weekend and post.
