Yeah I remember that accident. I also remember one on the 400 involving a lorry driver near Woodbridge. To be honest though, the traffic most of the time flows at 120 - 130 km/h with an occasional "left lane" hero who slows it down. The government does seem to use a "momentum" of a bad accident rather well. I don't agree with racing on public streets as well, but sometimes when I am by myself on the road at night I wish i could get home "a little faster", lol.
They LOVE using their own "toys" especially when the road clears, either city streets or highways, so that's mostly btwn 8pm and 7am also sometimes during the day when not much congestion out there, also be careful with the new HOV lanes on 404 and 403, at least 2 ppl in the car 2 use that lane.

Lorry driver? LOL Can u use the word 'truck' driver in UK, over here nobody knows what 'lorry' driver really means unless u watch trucking vids!
Nice! A lot of potholes after the winter on that stretch (Jameson to Spadina)... I really like driving into Toronto after midnight, no cars, just a nice city line..
@Blackmerc55 After dark is full of traffic cops so be careful out there. And I guess you already know about the 50 kph over the Posted Speed Limit (PSL) law, in effect in all Ontario for over 2-3 years now, regardless if it's on a city street, rural road, highway, you name it, they seize your car for 7 days, suspended DL for some number of days I guess, a very hefty fine and with towing and storage over $2,000 in total fine plus very bad for the driving record.
@401RoadWarrior Yup, I know about that law. There is honestly no harm in going fast especially when you are the only car on the road. Look at any country in Europe, speeds are a lot higher and there honestly not that many speed related fatalities. I think the government should focus on teaching people how to drive (lane discipline!!!) and not on passing absurd speed related bills through Parliament. Oh well, at least the bill where they wanted to limit all cars to 150 did not pass. :)
@Blackmerc55 In politics it goes under "Never waste a good crisis", it all started with a very tragic traffic accident, two teen punks racing each other on Mt Pleasant south of St Clair in TO and one of them crashed into a cabbie and the cabbie died on the spot, so they used that tragic incident not just to ban racing on public streets (I fully agree with that) but to consider racing (even when just one car involved, like you can race against you LOL) as ANYTHING above 50 kph over PSL.
@LatinoVibe On the ramp: 1) Left signal on 2) Hit the gas, speed up to match up the (at least) 90 kph cruising speed of the left-coming traffic 3) If necessary use the horn while ALWAYS looking into the left mirror.
This type of short on-ramps into the highway is pretty usual in U.S., they have pretty short on-ramps but over there pretty much everybody moves over into the median or left lane in order to let the on-ramp vehicles merge into the traffic.
@401RoadWarrior Yeah that's how I always merge, I'm just used to the 400 with those loooong ass merging lanes haha.
The reason I feel paranoid about that particular entrace is that one time I was merging and some joker decided he was going to overtake a car from the right, he was going about 180ish.... so I almost got sideswiped, I was merging at 120ish (little too fast I know) but if I got hit I would have been toast for sure.
@LatinoVibe 1) Long ramp, short ramp, an experienced driver adapts to any kind of road formation 2) I drive by morons on a daily basis, for instance those that drive the speed limit in the right lane and make no effort to move over to the left to free up the right lane for those getting on the highway, like they OWN the damn hwy, I have to loudly honk the horn to allow myself into a damn PUBLIC hwy!!! 3) Watch your speed around, lots of TO radar cruisers in that area, do up to 20 kph over PSL.
@KewlBoy20 From my knowledge everybody in CDA HATES Toronto, go anywhere way out of Toronto and say you are from Toronto, see how they look at you, how they talk to you, etc.
@401RoadWarrior ill tell em to go fuck themselves.we trontonians should stand up for our city.i know americains love our city.though if canada keeps syaing that ima blow it up some day SO FUCK ALL CANADIANS WHO SAY TORONTO SUCKS.
@KewlBoy20 what highway you pull over to look at the skyline??? You do that only for emergency situations, flat tire, mechanical problems, etc., in no way for your own pleasure, never ever!!!
@flyerholland I think UK has got the highest taxes in the whole EU, also gas prices at the pump are huge as well for the brits. Also in EU you have something we don't have in CDA and USA, GLOBAL WARMING taxes, you ppl in EU have decided to pay for what China and India, the biggest polluters in the world, have refused to pay, so your ideologues at the EU Parliament have decided to charge their own ppl what chinese and indians dont pay... Bon Apetit LOL
@401RoadWarrior yea fucked up.. though we drive short distances and have an average very high income so it doesnt hit people that hard. though we have very good public transport through the whole country
@flyerholland I've never used public transport in the past 20+ years, only my car (s) to transport myself and my entire family, so, for ppl like me taxes the gov is taking to support public transport are of no self-advantage at all. Major gov expenses on public transport: salaries and benefits of unionized public works ppl, also labor costs performed only by unionized ppl, I am not unionized, I am a self-employed individual that have to pay the salary, pension, benefits of a public worker.
@401RoadWarrior yea public transport just isnt the right thing for NA america... different way of infrastructure etc etc.. most part its just to big to have a good public transport system.
@Xjarq Start making a living based on driving and then talk to me again how is to get stuck in traffic because of bad winter weather. Plus, how can I say I love cold temperatures, who the hell loves to get a million layers of warm clothes on you, personally I HATE when it's cold, of course I have no issues living in northern hemisphere but I wouldn't mind at all if tomorrow we'll get some FL temperatures in Dec-March.
Great video Chris

That merger in the beggining is brutal. I always get a little iffy when going in, considering it's so short and the amount of bad drivers around.
