@Jamesapplejuice (The music at 1.40 - 2.15). Maybe its just me but it strongly reminds me of music by 'Ralph Vaughan Williams'. For example 'The Lark Ascending' but I can't quite pin it down!
It was her fate...her ancestors raped their way along the english south coast...Alex raping her and ruining her tragic life was payback for her Norman lineage..so sad but typical Hardy genius!!
@claraboomday: I shouldn't think so. hardy never wrote about just trivial fate as an explanation for anything. With him it's always social injustice and society's double standards. A genius he was nevertheless, I 100% agree with you there.
@claraboomday doubt it. Not only was it mentioned as an unproven possibility, but it assumes unfairly that Alex had an innocent past. Which is clearly untrue or at least dubious, given his family's purchase of the D'urberville title. To claim then that such payback is deserved especially when the case for both payee and payer is dubious, is hardly fate.
@cndwindy welllll technically they did, they just didn't speak much, if any at all, at the dance. so they did meet at the beginning, but i know what you mean :)
The song is called the snow it melts the soonest, but there are different versions of it, and I'm not sure which one features in Tess of the D'Urbervilles. One is sung by Anne Briggs and another by Cara Dillon.
I never noticed she is sweeping into the house instead of out & Alec finds his way to her at that moment. Angel 'finds' her when they are both touching the ground. She is wearing a black dress at the 'Its too late scene'. Then the crows at the Stonehenge altar scene- she becomes Morrigan! So many amazing moments in this version
Has anyone of you the version of anne briggs " the snow it melts the soonest" with music? I just can find her singing without a melody. Thank you :)

I love Tess of the D'Urbervilles. It's such a tragic story, but Tess's love for Angel is so strong and beautiful! I wish they would've met earlier.
