  • GOD BLESS U BRO

  • @juanyboo12345 Thanks- right back atcha!

  • Very interesting video. Are you able to access and remove/replace the pilot bearing on the end of the crankshaft?

  • @papavanuatu Yes. You can remove the flywheel and then it's easy.

  • So if you took it to a shop, they would charge for the ten plus hours of labor and probably do it this way.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • @jromely Most yank the whole drive train and charge you for it.

  • You deserve a medal.. a toyota medal for that!

  • do you know of a good site that contains torque specs and that sort of stuff?

  • @mex20oax Mitchell On demand 5, Alldata, Identifix

  • Thats what I like to see, sharp guys like you with insight into stuff like this! I myself incorporate roundabout ways at mechanical repair as often as I can. Excellent discovery dude, and thanks.

  • @wailinwally You're welcome. Thanks for the compliment.

  • Hey Brian,

Thanks for the upload, I wouldn't of attempted this if I had to of pulled the motor. Anyway I pulled everything up to the motor mounts, too dark to continue today but I was wondering- Do I need to pull the rear anti-torque mount, Is that pulled to allow the motor to come down enough? Also, I just dropped the exhaust about 1-1/2" off the manifold will this be enough or do I have to pull it all the way off? And do i need a jack for the tranaxle (or just grunt it over?)

    Thanks

  • @salsi78 Good questions- you pull 3/4 engine/trans mounts. So yes you do pull the bottom strut mount. As for the exhaust I don't remember for sure. I'd have to watch the video and then guess.

  • can't see squat underneath! but thank you for the details.

  • @systemaddictshock You're welcome. I'm just trying to help people out. I'm not a professional movie man/editor.

  • @briansmobile1 you should do one for a 2006 toyota tacoma. I was reading on some forums that some people are burning through their clutches faster than normal wear.

  • @systemaddictshock Next opportunity I get I'll do it.

  • Thank you so much for this tip! Used your advice on my '04 Solara and it worked great. Didn't remove the fans, radiator, engine, fuel lines, exhaust, cross member ... tons of stuff the book was telling me to do. Tranny fit fine in the wheel well and plenty of room to replace the disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. You da man, saved me tons of hassle in a job that's all about hassle.

  • @MrSatanDisc You're welcome. Isn't it nice to beat the book? I love it! Way to go man!

  • would this work the same way for a 2003 Camry? I spent $1000 to get mine done and they pulled the motor. I am wondering about the quality of the clutches, i only owned my car for a few months when this happened, bought it used, the mechanic said that the person that owned it before me must not have known how to drive a standard. But even the one that you have in this video is completely messed and it's only 3 years old. Are the original clutches crappy quality or is it really just the drivers?

  • @gt6989 You don't have to pull the motor on the 03 either. It's actually neither. The 1st gear isn't low enough so people have to burn more clutch on hills and parking structures etc. The 2003 Mini Cooper is another example of the same. They save gas, but eat clutches.

  • Hi Brian. Great video. Years ago when I was young like you I replaced a clutch on a 1977 Corolla. So I came across your video and will help me greatly since I don't have the upper body strength like I use to have to drop the transmission with my hands. I am old enough to afford a mechanic to replace the clutch on my 1999 Camry but I like working on my own vehicles. Will I be able to do the same thing on my 1999 Camry as the 2006 in video or will I have to drop the trans? Thanks

  • @LaDolceVita54 I find it easier to drop the trans on the 1999. I haven't looked to see if it will hold. Harbor Freight Tools sells a trans jack for $50 when it's on sale. It would be worth it to get one.

  • Thank you for sharing us this video. I have a 91 2,2 camry, which I will do in the same way as you have done this clutch job. I also have the original toyota camry workshop manual, and it tells you to lower down the hole engine/transmission after removing the engine supporting frame!

But do you also have to loosen the engine here on the camry or did I miss something? It was a bit dark from below the car so I couldn't really see what was done here! I would appreciate your comment here.

    Thanks!

  • @vonKragh I leave the right side motormount in tact. The other three mounts come off completely.

  • I am replacing the clutch on a 2000 toyota corolla, Where can I get a good exploded view of the bolts holing the bell housing on? You are right. There is a good 8 inches of play. Have everything ready to go but can't locate all the bolts holding it on.

  • @fkhouck On a 2000 i'd drop the trans out of the way. As far as an exploded view I'd jump in both feet. You will discover the unknowns after pulling the CV axles and the intake stuff. As for an exploded diagram... just feel around the bell housing after you're torn into it.

  • Thank this helped a lot.

  • @fkhouck You're welcome. I'm glad I could help out.

  • ur not so dusty, young fella, as we say in ireland, good vids,

  • @Liamautomechanic Thanks ; )

  • that would save a ton of labour, we do the renaults 9. R 11, and the R21 DIESEL the same method, saves droping out the cross member, good video,

  • @Liamautomechanic Thanks. Glad you liked it!

  • hey brian

what about the clutch for a 03 camry?

what s the best way to replace it?

thanks keep up the good job

  • @weerweer '03 you just drop it out the bottom. It's pretty standard.... pun intended. = )

  • thanks 4 this video. i have the same job today in few hours what do you advise thks again

  • @weerweer It works, just make sure to clear off the trans mount stuff so it will fit- get the engine supported so you can get the angle you need with 3 of the four motor mounts off.

  • I have to do an '03 Corolla clutch job soon - is this technique possible? or is it out through the bottom?

  • @yowzer99 I believe it's out the bottom- that's a good thing in my opinion. - good chest and bicep work out. ; )

  • Hi Brian,

I did the same job last fall on a 2003, on that one the flywheel was toast, not turnable. I got a new one from 1sttoyotaparts for less than the dealer shipped to my door!

On the Toyota MAF cleaning, you're wrong, the bulb is the IAT, the sensor wires are further inside, they are the ones that need cleaning. Did a cleaning today on a 2000 Corolla. Thanks for the videos!

  • @aaronnet I've been policed on that quite a bit- missed it in the video. Thanks for the feed back ; )

  • any tips for doing the clutch in an 89 camry? how similar are they? thanks!

  • @VDPEFi You do it much the same, but you lower that transmission OUT of the vehicle through the bottom. Good luck- cheers!~

  • @briansmobile1 thanks for the reply mate...we got the clutch done on ours, its quite a difficult one compared to some ive done before, mostly older european cars, but we got there eventually! Keep up the great vids!

  • @VDPEFi Glad to hear it went well. Way to go!

  • Great Video! This is exactly the repair I have at hand - 2006 Camry clutch. I have postponed the job as I am only a backyard mechanic and have been intimidated by the job, but also intimidated by the lowest estimate of $1,200. But now I think I will do the job myself.

Do you have any suggestions on what else needs to be removed or techniques for this job for someone with minimal experience?

Also, is this a common problem for 2006 Camrys?

  • My name is sue. How do you do? Now you gonna die!

  • YES!!!!

  • So I hit him hard right between the eyes and he went down, but to my surprise he come up with knife and cut off a piece of my ear!

  • thanks for the info. saved me tons of time.

  • you bet- thanks for the thanks ; )

  • I see that you removed the air filter, but what else did you have to remove / disconnect to gain access? Thanks for the great video!

  • CV axles, intake, battery and tray, slave cylinder and lines, starter motor, three motor mounts, drop exhaust down from manifold, Shifting cables, and wire harness plugs from transmission.

  • THANK YOU!!! ive done one of these before ....wish i would have known...lol

  • you're welcome. Thanks for the comment!

  • Nice Work.

  • Thanks!

  • dude .. you rock

  • Thanks!
