To answer your question, I think that R&B is not respected the way it use to be because the public school system has taken so much funding away from programs like music so that students are not exposed to it anymore. Therefore, they are not educated on how to properly read and respect music. R&B is so much more than beat tracks and samples. We need to expose the future generations to R&B more and the tools used to produce it.

I'm not really a huge rap or R&B fan however I respect you Mike and what your doing with your musical talent. I think when beats started to get more complex and autotuneing came into play in the music world it kinda degraded it. Esp the lyrics you look at Notorious B.I.G or 2Pac they raped about real life issues and used a simple bass/snare beat, now we have ppl who talk about how many hoes they can get and how cool their cars are and how rich they are.
i was juss sayin that they dont have 1000 R&B artist too choose from like they did in the 90's today its only about 10 R&B artist thats actually active as far as major artist go. But its really funny to me how all the real talent is on youtube i found about 50 great singers on here idk wats wrong wit labels not signing all those artist? I love that you're all about 'the feel'. The same groove us jazz players live in; the same vibe us guitarists live for, and so on. well to answer the question, i think some people like the upbeat of the song and how its more moving and gets you up to your feet. plus, some might just go with the new fad, and not giving each genre of music a close look
with rnb, most think its all lovey duvy and is about breakups and stuff, and may not want to hear it. but on the positive side, rnb, to me, is soothing and relaxing and is amazing. not all of it is what most people think it is.
music always has its changes there's always going to be changes and a lot of these artists go for what pays more but its not completely their fault because the labels choose what kind of artist they're going to be.
I don't think it's only RnB in particular, it's just that music used to have more energyflow to it because the instruments were played by people with decades of dedication and experience, mastering their instrument to the fullest and putting their soul into it. When you bring a team with these kind of skills in one room recording a project you potentially go to a much higher level of creativity and perhaps creating something that is timeless, forever. Something that will be remembered globally.

QOTD: Because people can't sing anymore, they all ways go to the auto-tune. There are very few groups out there were they can sing with out an auto-tuner or just single artist who can sing without auto-tune. Or there isn't that element that the group/singer isn't hitting to appeal to his/her crowd. Also the rapid change from just regular Rnb like Tevin Campbell and Brian McKnight that used some of the most beautiful melodies to this easier "Popped" out version of what we call Rnb.

RnB is sounding way too similair these days, producers need to change it up a bit to keep people interested. Hip Hop/Rap is a very successful genre because there are different forms of it ( west coast, jazzy, dirty south, laid back etc). Rock music is also heavily categorized (punk, metal etc) and so is dance music (trance, house, electro, techno etc).

R&B lost its touch because alot of people thats out now cant really sing. i mean its good for the mainstreem listener, but to the ones that know what good singing is, or that remembers how good it was, stay away from the garbage thats out now. the same goes for rap.
another problem is that theres no variety within the genre. it seems like the same song with the same beat with different people (ex. Mary J. Blige) its just gotten stale over time.. once again, same goes for rap

I don't think it's only RnB in particular, it's just that music used to have more energyflow to it because the instruments were played by people with decades of dedication and experience, mastering their instrument to the fullest and putting their soul into it. When you bring a team with these kind of skills in one room recording a project you potentially go to a much higher level of creativity and perhaps creating something that is timeless, forever. Something that will be remembered globally.

It won't stay the same. Look how dance music changed. When britney spears was around, electro house music weren't much of an influence to the pop scene. Answering the question Mike, R&B Music has lost it because the story is missing. It went from, I love you and this is why, to your body is why I love you. Everything seemed to reverse. Like Jaheims "Anything", he was talking about what he wanted to do for a girl. Or Old School Jagged Edge, "Promise" a commitment to a girl. It was more based on True feelings and emotion, rather than Sex like it is now. If you pay attention to all of the Old School REAL R&B Songs, it was based on Feelings.

QOTD: Because people can't sing anymore, they all ways go to the auto-tune. There are very few groups out there were they can sing with out an auto-tuner or just single artist who can sing without auto-tune. Or there isn't that element that the group/singer isn't hitting to appeal to his/her crowd. Also the rapid change from just regular Rnb like Tevin Campbell and Brian McKnight that used some of the most beautiful melodies to this easier "Popped" out version of what we call Rnb.

RnB is sounding way too similair these days, producers need to change it up a bit to keep people interested. Hip Hop/Rap is a very successful genre because there are different forms of it ( west coast, jazzy, dirty south, laid back etc). Rock music is also heavily categorized (punk, metal etc) and so is dance music (trance, house, electro, techno etc).

R&B lost its touch because alot of people thats out now cant really sing. i mean its good for the mainstreem listener, but to the ones that know what good singing is, or that remembers how good it was, stay away from the garbage thats out now. the same goes for rap.
another problem is that theres no variety within the genre. it seems like the same song with the same beat with different people (ex. Mary J. Blige) its just gotten stale over time.. once again, same goes for rap

The record labels are only promoting songs by artists because they are signed or have a big following and not because they make good music. some times I feel like I want to be signed but at the same time I don't want to water down my music for any label. Oh yea to answer your question it is simple people want lust instead of love. People would rather have lust for a love time then take the time to love someone. The music is not represented in that.
