  • Good stuff

  • Wait I have no rope :-(.

  • she is so talented and beautiful

  • i used to relate to this song so much. ill always love this song

  • Love you Fiona, Amazing song. SOoooo glad I grew up in the 90's

  • she is by far, my most favorite songwriter . i draw inspiration from her when i get in a hole. she always brings me out =)

  • @hydrowtfpwned amen. She is a gem.

  • Beautiful!! Makes me cry everytime! So many memories with this one!

  • Some say she wrote this song with her 12 year old assault in mind. I was assaulted at age 8, and I have to say, the song's words describe clearly what you feel.

  • "... but he washed me shore and he took my pearl and left an empty shell of me"

    WOW... just WOW. LOVE HER.

  • the thing with this woman is that with just her voice and words she'll break your heart and put it back together. she's so mournfull and "sullen" she makes it completely ok for you to feel sorrow and regret, and to keep breathing regardless of how much it hurts. we're all a little in love with her, because her songs understand us and make a clear understandable example and balm. a true Bard. i wish she'd keep singing, if nothing else to keep healing my wounded heart and spirit.

  • Wow this song is so power. The lyrics are so just powerful for lack of a better world. You can feel the pain she felt after getting rapped. He stole her pearl and left her an empty shell

  • Amazing song!

  • How can one person be SO talented and SO beautiful?

  • I've read all the comments of all the fans of this songShe was 15 when she wrote, composed, sung, played, recorded, edited and produced this song. The girl is the epitome of musical genius and at that age, writing something that intence, whit that much feeling, is nothing less than absolutely fuckin' amazing!!!.

  • i passed for the same situation

You washed me shore and you took my pearl, and left an empty shell of me

  • I am so in love with her. I wish I could sing like her.

  • why hasnt this had more views?

  • this ismy favorite stay at home and lay in bed all day depressed song,I find more compassion from music than from other people

  • It comforts me when people can't, and understands when people don't.

  • She's the most brilliant song-writer I've ever heard.

  • @midblu Have you heard of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, or Bob Dylan?

  • @raceyblood I've loved the fab four since age of 16 (and I'm 37), and Bob too...but the one thing that stands out is that Fiona is a *woman*....women didn't really have much leeway in the 60s-80s to really be outspoken. I think Fiona's outspoken nature, and expression of true gritty emotion is a great product of women's freedom....not to make too much of a darn song, but just to help see it from a female perspective.

  • @vgoth100 I hear ya... and yes she is very expressive and I love her dearly... but even Lennon still laid down more chips with "Woman is the nigger of the world". This is not a slight on my dear Fiona... just saying nobody is grittier and more lucidly fearless than John Lennon. Not even our brilliant tragic waif here :P

Have you ever seen her live? I've seen her twice. Once in 1997 and once in 2006. Talk about a girl who grew up.... wonderful, wonderful concerts.

  • @raceyblood Heck yes, Woman is the Nigger of the World was a seriously bold statement on Lennon's part, definitely pushed on him by Yoko (Who I admire in some aspects and dislike in others)....I saw Fiona once live, I'm thinking it was about 97 (would have to look at my ticket stub)....but it was definitely during the 'Tidal' album phase. She blew me away....she's the real deal.

As far as raw emotion, nothing to me is greater than the Plastic Ono Band...Lennon's first album after Beatles demise

  • @midblu Unfortunately geniuses like Fiona are sometimes not appreciated until history had had it's way with them. But I do agree with you 100%. Still her legacy has been growing and will continue to grow. You cannot deny greatness. It just cannot be denied. Fiona will gain her rightful place. However I do selfishly wish she would come back now. But I hear she is happy not writing music and that kind of makes me happy too. I love you Fiona

  • once and again i go back through yesterday's records searching for songs i might have missed when i get tired of hearing over & over shitty new artists that mean nothing except to sell...

and finding this song is such a pleasure and relief, it appeals so much to ones soul

  • My favorite Fiona song. She's too talented for words.

  • So sad... So incredibly full of feeling... You can't hear this and not feel at least a tad bit sentimental or even stripped of all happiness. I love this song and every feeling of despair that can come along with it.

  • I love the lyrics to this one, thanks for posting them.

  • She's so FUCKING beautiful, I love Fiona!!!

  • you know this song was about her rape that happend when she was on her way home from school.

  • Can't believe how young I was and listening to her 1st album all day! This song was my staple!

  • Fiona at her best. And, to think she was a teenager when wrote this masterpiece is remarkable.

"But he washed me ashore, and he took my pearl.

And left an empty shell of me." Poignant and heartbreaking.

Her melancholy melody survives the roaring piano waves in the chorus, further illustrating that she remains calm in the "blue" of her oblivion. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I hope she returns soon with new songs.

  • She was 16 when she composed most the material for this album. Profoundly deep music for a child. Probably one of the best albums ever, certainly one of the best of the 90's.

  • I would say it's one of the best musical collectives to be put out. Definitely up there with Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys.

  • i agree, one of my favorites as well

  • I'd been meaning to find this for a while, and it's definately a beautiful song. Wow.

  • Loves it!

  • You're right, This is my favarite song. It's a great song. It's real art. Full of beauty, pain, feelings, life. This songs is always with me.

  • Beautiful.

  • Her greatest and most intimate.

I love this song with all my heart...

  • I agree...this is her greatest song!

  • beautiful song
