Nirvana mainly Kurt, wanted to use their wide-spread popularity to open doors for bands he considered 'better' than Nirvana; the Wipers being one of them. The thing is, most people are happy just to listen to Nirvana play, they don't have the inclination to dive deeper into the bands influences or similar bands in general. lucky for you, you're interested enough to discover these things for yourself.
