  • HA! KOOL!

  • when rick ross sees this he says "HUUUH!"

  • Very down to earth, nice

  • hey i play ska style guitar which reggae was derived from and it is a lot easier if you palm mute the down stroke instead of lifting up your left hand

  • U R great ;D Bless from Poland ;)

  • Maybe you weren't listening. She said it was by Inner Circle.

  • Thanx awsome Job !! I learn fast with your lesson so thaaaanx !

  • retarded lady/.

  • inner circle but bob marley did do a cover of this song because i have it on video lol

  • @kxkarnage7 can i see that video because bob marley died in 1981 and the release date of bad boys was in 1992/1993 so are you sure that's bob marley in the video:P:P

  • Brilliant!

  • thanks for this video, you play really well and helped me a lot!!

  • There is another reggae rhythm lesson on YT that claims 90% of the time reggae rhythm is downstrokes.

Is this true or doesn't it really matter?Play what you feel.

    BTW Sounds fine to me.

  • nice video!

  • do you have any gigs in london?

  • Do you have the tabs for the intro?

Yesterday I saw your vid of redemption song and it went way to fast! Then i saw the tab and i could play allong with you.

  • that definetly helped ty =D

  • thx, helpful indeed

  • didn't knew that Gimli the Dwarf from The Lord of The Rings played an instrument! hahaha no i'm kiding, nice work it helped but it could be better! peace!

  • Clear and concise.Thanks

  • respect sister

  • @claredowling - This shouldn't be an up-stroke. reggae guitarists would play this with a down stroke.. It's more difficult to control that way.. but it's the only way to put in the kind of little adlib riffs reggae guitarists often use.

Funnily enough I just opened for Inner Circle a little while ago :)

  • @yourmanwatson do you meen its harder for you to controll because reggae guitarists always play on the up stroke so its sonner to the off beat in the score

  • @stringzmusic661 Nope - all the Jamaican musicians I've played with play it on a downstroke. and there is a reason for it.... I've been playing this music most of my life. It's not about me being right and someone else being wrong. It's just about sharing the knowledge.

  • @yourmanwatson fair enouth freind please forgive

    ps

i just dont think before I say things BIG PROBLEM of mine like i said please forgive

  • @stringzmusic661 It's all good. I just don't want to be taken as an arrogant know it all cause I really don't know it all and that's not what life's about.

I just really have devoted years to this music.. and this girl could be great if she got a couple of the little tricks of the genre..

  • @yourmanwatson and i really dont belive you opend for inner circle

  • @stringzmusic661 @stringzmusic661 And why the f%# would I waste my time making up a story like that?? Opening for Inner Circle really isn't that big of a deal. It just means I'm having some success in the town I live in. Here's some footage of me playing with peter Tosh's youngest son.. /watch?v=xP6C5wvYHG8

  • @yourmanwatson i belive you freind

  • Comment removed

  • @stringzmusic661 type into google search - Inner Circle Natural Flavas ..and you'll still find the ticketing url from one of our Inner Circle shows... Believe me I have way better things to do with my life than make up stories.

  • shes good!

  • Stop hating on her hair n watch da fukn video

  • wow kool thank u this is very help ful!! fuck you haters get a life:) more reggae please!!

  • Oh my god i love that Reggae Sound! Very much thank to you :D

  • nice mmmm

  • you look like a bum and you suck at singing

  • @Cthulu310 Oh, look now you look like your tryin to be Orlando Bloom in Pirates and Robert Trujillo at the same time. and she sings great just because it's not head bangin loud don't mean it's not good. Reggae is one of the most influencial genre's of modern music ( as well as rock).

  • Niice Ur qreat But lols did u lock ur hair is it lock juuss askiin

  • hey thanks!

  • I <3 you some more!

  • Wonderful....what an amazingly gifted teacher. Thank you so much for sharing your talent!

  • I like the way you/she chop/chops up the reggae lessons into these tiny little bite-sized chunks. I mean, it makes things very easy and clear, especially for beginners.

  • can you teach "life is not a game by turbulence" ? I know bob marley is king and so on but there are some really nice roots and conciousness bands out there.Black Uhuru for example.Big up !

  • I use an epiphone (Les Paul Standard) and a roland cube 15x as amp, I took clean mode + the "Lead" pick, and I do exaclty as you do, but I don't get the same feeling on my reggae playing.. How come? Is it because I have humbuckers and you single coil mics?

  • thats because you have humbuckers is hard to get the same sound, get a stralocaster!!!!!!!! thats going help.

  • A lot has to do with your amp too, she has little bass with her set up. It depends on what u play, if u play the "new age american reggae" like sublime and the expendables you want more bass. Lower the bass and boost your mids and highs you will get her sound more. I don't want to offend you but those amps have always sounded kind of plastic to me. Invest in a fender amp and you wont regret it. Tube amps are always best of course.

  • @spotmeatsour Okey I see. But can I not get her sound with my Roland Cube 15x amp and epiphone les paul?

I want to have the sound when she plays bad boys. I've always thought I did not have "the feeling", but when I play same notes on the piano, I get the good sound/feeling about reagge.

  • I think I had one of those amps a while ago. I lent it to a friend and never got it back, so I don't really remember how it sounded other than small and plastic like I said earlier. The problem is not your guitar, I play reggae on my Gibson SG standard all the time. I put a burstbucker 2 in the neck position and it freakin nails the reggae tone. I think your amp is too small, a bigger amp is gonna get more bass and a much more "real" sound that you want with reggae.

  • I see. I'll try another amp when I'll visit the music store. But my amp is pretty big I think.. It's more for rock/metal rythm.. And it has perfect clean mode. Maybe there should be Reverb and stuff like that ... I'll try, thank you very much.

  • @spotmeatsour Not so. Boost the treble (& the bass a little) and cut the midrange; that's the frequency band that prevents the riddim 'chop' from having 'edge' or 'bite'. A bit of bass boost in the EQ won't mess with that, and make it fuller and rounder, whether you play bar chords or just chords with four or so strings. I've never had any luck with the 'presence' switch so I just leave it off more time. Just my experience with a strat and fender amp.

  • @spotmeatsour I thoroughly despise what you call the new age Amer. "reggae"...it's actually punkish frat-rock with a (usually badly-played) 'skank' guitar to make it seem like reggae to the ignorant. It conveys neither the musical 'minimalist' expertise nor the lyrical consciousness of bonafide reggae music. Fender amps are known for that clean, full sound, but you can get it on a lot of other amps too. Tube amps are fine unless the tubes are shot, then nothing you do will get you a clean sound.

  • just perfect lesson^^

  • i think you mean it's on the "up beat".

  • no she means what she said.

  • Not surprisingly, here, the 'up beat' and the "up stroke", as she says, are the same thing. It's common for guitarists to strum/stroke down on down beats, 1, 2, 3, 4; and up on up beats/up strokes/ands, (1) ans (2) and (3) and (4).

    Dig it, with a spade.

  • love your vibe. your bass lines show that you're more than strumming reggae, you're breathing the stuff!

  • U R AMAZING !

  • you are a cool chick if I were local I would gladly have a beer with you.

  • That is wonderful, great lesson!

  • Um...yes, you are wonderful. Thank you.

  • you rock at Reggae Dude!

Im MAYBE* Gonna get Dreads! :)

    *depends if mom lets me*

  • listen to midnites inspiration... now i overstand it has effects but its still skanked the same way!

  • thats the very simple way... i wanted to hear the original skankin sound created by a down and what seems to be a light mute at the same time...

  • dread??! no

  • how about baby I love your way by big mountain.

  • nice lesson!..

  • Great lessons Claire

I am really enjoying your approach

  • could you do be my baby - UB40 & Robert Palmer...grazie

  • great work :)

  • she doesnt show yopu wat to do shes jst playing it

  • if you don't understand you can't see or you are stoopid

  • This is great! Thanks! =)

  • what a pun...

  • Another really informative clip. The way you've focussed on a two-chord switch allows us beginners to focus on the technique of accompaniment without learning how many bars or chords there are in the whole song. Thanks.

  • Yeah, excellent series. Thanks.

  • shes high offf her ass

  • most def. great!

  • Great!! I'll try it as soon as i can! Thank you very much!

  • Clare - you shred!

  • sounds great

  • So what chords are these now? cant find other versions of the chords except the c and am everyone knows

  • Sorry Clare. Watch the gitsy on the Inner Circle orig. version of the tune. You won't see him playing the skank on the upstroke at all. Keep the wrist moving in time to the music, skank on the downstroke, accents on the upstroke.

  • This is fantastic. I've been looking for something to teach me the rhythm for Bad Boys. I'm bookmarking this whole reggae teaching series. Thanks for doing this.

  • haha, last i heard this song i was in my bimmer with the heat on my tail.

  • thank you

  • would you give me the bass tabs please?thank you!!!

    please

  • you are 1 awesome chick...... ive learned alot of good riffs thanks to you.... Jah Bless ya mon........ ras 4 life.... Wah!!!!!!! boo ya, digity, selectah.......Me learned this talk from Ali G...... but serious , a big Thanks from JJ in T.N. USA....... Rock on

  • when u remove the hand do u release the pressuer on strings only and still keep contact

  • isnt this bob marley's song?

  • nah its the intro song to the tv show cops

  • originally by bob marley, inner circle did popular cover.

  • Bob Marley neither wrote this tune nor ever performed it. Ian Lewis of the Inner Circle is the songwriter. Don't chat what you don't know.

  • @bassiehd She never said anything about Bob Marley playing it....

  • @Xachyy She didn't but one of the earlier commenters did...this is what I was replying to:

    >>originally by bob marley, inner circle did popular cover.

    DjBlake93 2 years ago<<

...and it still doesn't change the fact that she's playing reggae riddim guitar wrong...go ahead, search YT, you won't find a single Jamaican guitarist on any live reggae performance playing the riddim on the upstroke like she does. You will, however, find some Americans & British folks who do...

  • @bassiehd what the fuck you on about

  • @BobDylansNumber1Fan I'm sorry, if you were a real musician and had a cvnt hair of knowledge about reggae music, I'm sure you'd have no problem understanding what I said. Better go back to either strumming "Blowing in the Wind," or actually doing it by visiting the gay section of Miami in a hurricane.

  • @bassiehd haha are off your fucking head or what..?

  • @BobDylansNumber1Fan Sorry, I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person. All I'll say is that the derp is quite strong with you.

  • @bassiehd haha a battle of wits.? i didn't say fuck all you freak, i think you should get out more

  • @BobDylansNumber1Fan Then why even come on here, scumbucket? damn right you don't say fuck-all, you bleedin' twit. This person don't play reggae riddim guitar right, and I doubt if you could even strum a simple Dylan song. I feel sorry for Bob if you're an example of his fan base.

  • no...inner circle wrote it bob marley died in 81 this was released in 87 i think

  • The drums usually play 4 beats per measure, accented on the 3rd, the guitar plays during the second and fourth.

    Hope that helps anyone.

  • hey, thanks so much for making these reggae lessons, I've been looking for them for like forever on youtube :)

  • how do you up pick that fast Clare?

  • thanks :) very helpful

  • guys*

  • ok, so i get the downstroke, but for this upstroke, do you palm mute it?

help me out gus, i reall wanna learn some ska

  • no, you dont palm mute, that would be impossible: you use your fretting hand to mute the strings by lightly placing them over the strings (not pressing down to play notes) to mute them.

  • ok thanks you so much. i've always thought the same thing, cause people always told me to palm mute, when it both didn't sound right, and wasn't nessesary

  • great job but just some advice u should show how to play the chords and explain what fingers are on what frets and such so people who dont know that chord dont have to look it up but overall one of the best youtube guitar teacher person

  • DAMN i love u ur crazy! il try dat shit :D thx!! <33

  • Give praise and thanks to Claire!

  • Correction: give praise and thanks to Clare!
