I can't get them back in the game but I can sorta simulate the old tracks in AOE 1 if you hate the MIDI's.

1. Turn off the in game music sound

2. Acquire iPod, Mp3 player, phone etc

3. Download original tracks in MP3 format

4. acquire 2 sets of speakers or headphones

5. play music as soon as the game starts

6. ENJOY. I'm not a thumbs up whore but if you want to do a service for the other fans. Thumb this comment up.

@magichatake Sorry some ill research there, 1997. I believe they released a later version with the crappy soundtrack. These tracks were on the good version that was put into nutri grain boxes in 2002 for the release of AOM.

What's so sad if even for how long I've been playing Age of Empires, starting when the Expansion came out, I never heard these actual tracks. I've only heard the watered-down MIDI tracks as the original .mp3's were not in the two-disc edition :(

@9snaker This is only in the original version of the game, and off the CD. If you have Gold Edition (like I do :( ) you're stuck with the MIDIs.

A real shame this song didn't have a MIDI version incarnation.

@9snaker Ah. I'm not sure about that Gold Version, since the one I have is the single-CD one (where there really wasn't enough space for the superior CD tracks).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK CD soundtrack was only in the standalone AOE box.

@alerommel1 I think you can put the CD in and rip it with iTunes :), in a similar fashion to AOE2 + TC.

Now to actually have them play in-game...yeah, I think you can put in any CD you like and the game will play that automatically, though you need either the game CD to load the game or have a no-CD executable.

out of all the age of empires AOE 2 is my favorite based off campaign and how it played but AOE 1 has the best soundtracks by far.

AOM and AOE 3 are the shit as well :D

This are the ORIGNIAL OLD SONGS... Few years later, they redisgned the music and songs. They are new songs now in this Collector Editions..

from the CD itself (am I right ? because I am not sure ) ! So, when I recently installed AOE1 in Win XP, I did it without the expansion! But from what i hear the new "music" which plays now is neither the original AOE1 music nor the expansion music! It is just a completely new music! Oh, and I didn't install any patch at all! Are you sure that you hear the original music in Win XP ? Also the collection you mentioned ( I have AOE 2 separately) what kind of soundtrack includes in AOE1?

just delete the songs or make an backup first. Than put the "old" songs in them and replace them. Should work.

Age Of Empies 1 had one of the best music I have ever heard in a video game!The strange think is that this music plays only in Windows 98 ! I recently installed the game in Windows XP and it plays a completely different music (still OK but much worse than the original)! I think it has something to do with the music files and how they are read but I am not sure! If someone knows more I would appreciate to inform me! (forget my bad english)

@alerommel1 I have searched the music folder of the game and couldn't find this track. I'm getting the idea it gets removed from the game after you installed the expansion (I have the expansion) or download some sort of patch? (Or just bought a newer version of the game)

It can be that I remember the soundtrack from an old copy I used to have. Since some years I bought a collection pack with AoE 1&2+expansions, that collection pack doesn't contain the soundtrack anymore.

@Basssiiie I see! But I have this game since it came out back in 1997 and I do remember the original soundtrack (the soundtrack heard in this video) which I heard in my old PC ! But when recently I installed the game in Windows XP all the music files with the awesome original music were replaced by this weird music you heard in the link video! I do not have the expansion (I only installed it once in my old PC when a friend gave it to me, but I don't think this can remove the music (continue)

i remember getting this 10 years ago, i played Total annhilation, but since this was historical i thought it was going to be boring. but then *install* and HOLY SHIT!!! i was fucking suprised, it had greta gameplay, unit variety, great soundtrack, history accuracy, buildings, techs, navies, and even recource gathering made it an amazing example of an RTS game, i beat everything, made many scenarios, etc. and it still was not enough for me. why? because it is a masterpiece, memories... remake plz

Also, I remember one weird thing back then. That occured when I played GTA1 and I forgot to remove Age of Empire disc. After the game started, it played AoE music! I was like "Oh, amazing, that sounds good. It is better than car's radio". The music changed when I entered and exit the car. Also, different car type played different AoE music so it was pretty fun (I also used this trick to play Quake with Rainbow Six: Rogur Spear OST too).
