  • @FUNKtionDJ Aww. Been wondering where you been. Keith is actually the person who sent me "The Ultimate Breaks" series when I didn't even know they existed. I had been following samples the old fashioned way prior to that. Thanks for all your contributions to the show, brother.

I may have to end up getting something like that. Any small single CD units that work in the same vein? Still want you to do that video someday. As always funk... Peace. • P.S this should be a course in University! I took an Opera course one time- and I learnt almost as much as Opera music and history as I learnt hip hop from your videos! *no joke* YES! I listen to hip hop and collect samples too but, man, you know a lot!

  • btw, nevermind about the Amerie sample, my little bro already had it

  • I have watched all your vids from part 1-33, so I have a right to make an unusual request for part 34! (maybe not- but I am desperate for this sample! please!) I have been looking for Amerie's sample- Why don't we fall in love (its not "hip hop" I know). And Funk, what happened to all the Del the FUNKY homosapien samples? esp from Deltron 3030! here's one, William Sheller- Introit (used for Deltron- 3030).

I know you think very highly of De La Soul and that's awesome! Since watching your vids I've checked out more and more of their stuff...

other than ME MYSELF AND I

the only other song I really knew from them was off the judgement night soundtrack

a GREAT tune "Fallin' " from De la Soul and Teenage Fanclub.

I think this jam is awesome...and is in my top rated tunes on my itunes playlist. What are your thoughts on it ?

  • Was the first track sampled by Pegz on "fuckin wid Pegz"?

  • I did marry a nurse:)

  • awesome top 10...again 5 stars

  • Stop this nonsense right now! There is no way this should be free. This is a ridiculous level of funk and knowledge. Like I said before, this should be required listening and viewing before you make any type of hip hop track. Keep it up.

  • people were samplin this almost 2 decades ago..all he does is playin beats that producers used 100 times before..

you just can't sample the stuff funktuall plays no more..that would be played out, unoriginal.

  • That lee dorsey name drop was awesome dude.

  • wow man u know your shit dude

paul hanning has just told me to have a look and it is all gud fella

  • I think you may have already played the sample for "Sure Shot", but I enjoyed it as much the second time. Thanks.

  • I haven't played before myself but I know what you mean. Re-learning can be just as fun.

  • Very good top ten thanks.

  • The Lee Dorsey Twist was a sick move... and Tom Jones??? I HAD NO IDEA that The Stetsa Beat came from him, never would've guessed. 5 Stars as always...

  • holy shit i couldnt even recognize the mass appeal sample at first

  • number 6 ghostface - saturday night

  • Clever ending! This has been one of my favourites! Amazes me how some of my favourie artists from the past keep popping up. Eddie Russ big tune over here in Little Ole was "Zaius" and Reuben Wilson "Got to get your own" I saw Reuben Wilson with Grant Green Junior (great singing voice) and Bernard Purdie in a Trio at the Jazz Cafe in London - They were fantastic!!! QUESTION - Does anyone know if "The Al Foster Band - Night of the wolf" has been sampled???

  • I always loved that loop on "Runnin." Thanks for letting us know where it came from

  • Awesome list man!

  • Go Stetsa!!

  • This has got to be your best top ten, yet.

  • THIS IS AMAZING WORK MY MAN

  • Great video. You inspired me to get Logic Pro for my Mac recently and amma start hookin' up some beats. If I produce anything that ain't a complete embarrassment then I'll send it to ya.

  • Loved the whole volume, instant favorite. The intro was the shit, I swear I just got that Lee Dorsey song a few weeks back and had to decide which of the many songs it was sampled for to pair it with and Fat Joe was the winner. You made it wonderfully clear how that beat was used, love to see you do the same with Melvin Bliss's Synthetic Substitution ( know you did the song already just saying).

  • Did you put the baby to sleep?? I need that energy... Don't change. Great Videos...

  • That was very cool the way you started and ended with Lee Dorsey. That made the video all the better.

  • Digable Planets' albums were so dope.

But got to say Illmatic is amazing one of the few albums I can put on I not ever really care if I listen to it all day.... And I have + 300 albums in my collection and still Illmatic has the highest play count.

A close second would be Shad K's "The Old Prince"... for those who don't know to much Canadian Hip Hop rather dope, or The Roots' "Illadelph Halphlife"

  • Sorry whoops can't forget... pretty much everything A Tribe Called Quest has done. Midnight Marauders is beyond great I could listen to that album front ways, back ways, side ways... pretty much if you read Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham" and replace the item with any of those albums I mentioned except would reply yes.

Only problem I have is the anti-gay line by Phife Dawg on Oh My God.

  • because you cant, you wont

  • Wasnt AZ on Illmatic?

  • @illstateofmind Solo album. Meaning not part of a group. He said ALMOST no guest stars. Nas couldve had Jay on there but he said he doin it dolo him and his man AZ.

  • No no, I changed it to ALMOST.

  • teach me music
