  • Can you make a dog collar out of these plastic bags?

  • @mariare0 Yes, you could if you wanted to, don't know how the dog would feel about it. I think I would try to make one out of yarn as that might feel better on the dog's neck. :)

If you make one send me a picture please! I shattered my hand and can't make much of anything anymore.

  • @freefallun aww I am so sorrie to hear about you hand, I will pray that you get better. Ok I will do that, yesterday I homemade my dog a collar out of rope, if you want you can check out the video. and thanks for the reply

  • Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. It's a great concept!!!!! I really appreciate your efforts!

  • @Harmony0102 Thank you Harmony for your kind words!

  • @AmericanPitBulls, about your question, depends where are you located?? I've shattered my left hand a few months ago, but will be happy to try and make you a leash, it will just take me longer. :)

  • I've never tried to braid the plastic bags.... I think though that this square knot would be much tighter and stronger even for a 6 lb Chihuahua. :) Works great on my 12 lb Min Pin.

My friend made one for her horse and has been using it for a couple of years now, she loves it. Be sure to watch my video on how to make this leash with out any glue!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Whoa! That's amazing! By any chance do you think this will work with a braiding strategy will be strong enough, for say... A 6 pound Chihuahua?

  • im pretty sur that will rip with a pit bull pulling i

    tself

  • now I can Recycle pastic bag! there's alot of great things that u can do with plastic bags, and it can save our enviorment.:) Let's Make the World BEtter:))

  • Once the leash is together it will hold a large dog, you must make sure everything is tight, not loose. First dog I used one on was a Great Dane in Obedience class, worked great. Please try it and watch my video on how to make a recycle bag leash without any glue, much faster and eaiser and just as strong as a nylon rope. :) A friend makes them for her horses.

  • Great idea, but I doubt that glue would really hold a dog leash together for very long unless it was just a very tiny toy dog. A lab or other large breed would pull the leash apart in seconds.

  • Very neat! I think I would fuse them with heat rather than glue as another viewer suggested, but yeah! Great project -- thanks much :)

  • i cant help but think you have wasted more resources on glue production than you have saved with 20 odd bags which will take weeks to accumulate. Its an unreliable lead and looks dodgy, takes ages to make and requires tools such as glue, applier, dog hook etc

  • Very clever!!

  • i tried this project just now but i didn't glue em i used an iron and overlapped the bags about 2 inches and put aluminum foil underneath and on top and gave it a quick heating. but i didn't make mine long enough so i turned it into a dog collar :P

  • Love it! Thanks for sharing the video :) Would be great to donate to shelters I think!

  • megatube.blogcu.com

  • That's a really cool idea.

  • You can use plastic bags kinda like newspaper for wrapping stuff. maybe if you're desperate for packing material, but still!

  • If everyone make a commitment to become a recycler will keep stuff out of landfills, help the city and country save money on garbage collection and in addition, it is also good for the environment and for the planet givetome.net

  • Neat Idea~! Now all I gotta do is find pink bags :)

  • Or you could just go to a pet store and buy a leash!!

  • Great Vid...I think I will try that one day.

  • awesome:) great video.

  • I am thinking about turning them into plastic money and get them circulated forever and evah mates. Maybe turn them into sailing boats, dinghies, ships etc. I wanna save the dah world from plastics

  • Nice work!

  • @jokawild94 Hmmm, cool idea you could add beads or other things to the necklace If I tried I would cut the strips about an inch wide if that's to thin then just keep making the strips wider till you get the width you want Start with a clasp on one end and the hook on the other just poke the plastic strips through at the end like at the end of the dog leash. Try doing a half knot too, that's done buy pulling through the same strip in the same direction every time, makes it 'swirl' Hope this helps

  • Excellent video! I just made a video on stuffing pillows with scrap plastics, but this option is wayyyy better!

  • @tylertalkstrash Thanks, glad you like this idea, I like the idea of the pillow stuffing, I could do that with the little pieces I have left over!! :)

  • awesome, thank you for sharing

  • Would you please do a video on how to make a plant hanger out of plastic bags?

  • That's a "macreme" knot you're using ,.... GREAT idea !

  • @Barngodess , thanks, yes, it is a 'macreme' knot, I use the 'macreme' half knot, and this knot when I make plant hangers out of plastic bags, they are cool to make also, but..... lots of work!!

  • @freefallun This is about your leashes made of bags is it possible for you to make one and send it

  • great vid, totally gonna try it=]

  • Nice job!! This is a great idea and so clear and concise!! Thanks!!!

  • thank you this was very helpful

  • I loooooveee it. Very Very Well done and thanks!

  • that is nice and clever. congrats.

  • omg i love the leash could you make me one for me and my golden!!!! if so can you give it to vicky(my aunt) i would realy aprecate it have fun!

(im the neece with the cabin up north that you ladies stay at ) (

  • awesome! thanks for sharing. you did a wonderful job!

  • fantastic idea! so wonderful of you to share.

  • Thank you, be sure to watch the other video on how to make these without glue, SO much faster and easier. :-)

I'm making some up now for a "Blessing of the Pets, and Pet Expo" coming up in March!

  • Great job! Thanks.

  • What a great idea thank you.

  • this is very cool. Thanks for posting this video. I will share the link with friends and family!

  • Instead of glue, you could fuse the bags together. Sandwich the bags between some parchment paper and iron on a silk/wool setting.

  • Oh my Gosh thank you!!!!

  • Thank you!!!

Great idea, and good to know my dog is not leaving a carbon foot print!

  • nice

  • Lovely result I was a bit doubtful in the beginning but looks great and for a good cause!!!

    Thank You

  • Nice Idea!

  • How do you recycle old dog leash?

  • You could cut off the old material and either make a 'bag leash', or if you'd rather not use bags you could buy some Macramé rope or thin leather and make a brand new leash with doing it the same way as making the bag leash, if your using the thin leather strings just weave them in about 5 inches before you reach the end of each string, same with the Macramé rope, and at the end weave the ends into the leash again about 5 inches and maybe tie a little knot at the ends when your done.

  • Excellent video - thank you for making it - those will make great horse leads too.

  • Great idea. However I would recommend to use LESS plastic bags in the first place so there is less need to recycle. If one has a fabric shopping bag there is no need to take a plastic one at the store. If you like a certain size and shape of pl. bag just copy it, silk is great cuz it's light and strong. Dupioni silk is cheap and comes in great colors. Add handles separately, and remember to close the bottom last to catch the folds in. Organza silk is transparent and great for produce bags.

  • True, but you could ask people if they have any plastic bags in their home. Or you could use some from the grocery store's recycle bin. 95% of my plastic bags come from other people's homes that I then recycle.

  • BRILLIANT idea!!!!

  • Great Idea, looks like a good girl scout project to me. Thanks a ton.

  • what a great reuse of the bags!

  • I work in a hotle so we made these useing old hotel sheets cut into strips. I worked great!

  • Another way to recycle, good idea!! :-)

  • this is such a good idea.

im sure it wil be strong enough to hold a dog in place?

    absolutly wounderfull idea!

    Reduce Reuse and Resycle!

  • Hi Lithillia,

Thank you, and yes, the Bag leash will hold any dog you are walking. I would not recommend tying a dog to a post or something though as a dog could chew through the leash.

Also, if you have a little dog, its very easy to cut the bags to whatever thin size you need!

  • awsome.

i really thought it would cus my experiment whit plastic when crochet it is very strong. just nice to get the fact anyway :)

  • Great idea. Thank you!!!

  • I think this is great, thanks for sharing!!

  • do have an etsy?

  • oh god the good old days of blue peter

  • What a great idea!!

  • Very creative ;)

  • that...is...awesome...!

  • Maybe you could fuse the bags together instead of gluing them, using an iron and wax paper.

  • Yes, that would also work! "Thank you"

  • What an absolutely fantastic idea!

  • That is the coolest Idea EVER!!!

  • you should sell them on etsy

  • I love this idea helping the enviornment as well as helping animals I love love love your video thank you so much!!!

  • have you also tried the braided fused dog leash? is there a reason you choose to do square knot method instead of that?

  • Hmmm, I've never thought of that, thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try and see how it holds up!

Also, for any of you that like to macramé I've made some nice plant hangers with the plastic bags with using the square knot and half knot. :-)

  • Great video

  • COOL, THANKS FOR THE IDEA!

  • Wow you were great and i help the local animal shelter and thanks to you i make about 2 plastic dog leashes a day and i bring them to the animal shelter and all the dogs have their own leash thanks to you. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • To trtcity258,

Thank you so much for the kind words, and thanks for making a difference in keeping plastic out of our landfills and helping out a animal shelter at the same time!!

  • I'm impressed!! very informative, easy to understand .. and great camera talent too.

  • Here's the rating you deserve!

  • Wow! Very inventive!

  • Very Creative Idea! I never would have thought of doing that with bags..I usually just toss them in the trash. LOL Thanks for sharing.

  • Good idea and good job. I AM a recycling freak so I will keep this in mind.

  • Cool idea! Thanks for sharing!
