@rem2012song You are incorrect. He was shot in the face in his own home, the stories as to why he was shot vary, but eventually he died in the hospital a few days later as a result of his wounds. He was not killed in the street by a Russian thug as you say.

Horst Wessel was a German Nazi activist who was made a posthumous hero of the Nazi movement following his violent death in 1930, for martyr purposes primarily. He wrote the lyrics to this song "Die Fahne hoch" which is also known as the "Horst-Wessel-Lied", which means Horst Wessel Song. Another fact is that he was shot in the face while answering his front door, he died in a hospital, not on the street.
