i heard, to house one criminal is $30,000/ per year and no telling how much it was for the taxpayer to take care on the kid from being a fetus until jail.

i think government should cut more.

Republican's ARE wanting to cut more, the Dems keep wanting to spend. The Dems want to shutdown the Govt and the Internet when there is really no reason to except to start following the example of Hugo Chavez and stockpile money for themselves. The Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the White House on October 1, 2010 when the new fiscal year started. They chose not to pass a budget. Now they want to cry b/c the other side has some ideological problems with the budget?

Don't be fooled The Democrats could have have pushed their budget through while they had majority without a single Republican vote just as they did with the HC bill

This is a political move set into play right after last Novembers 'shellacking.'

@SuperNolimetangere Yes Defence contractors will be affected. That refers to companies like Boeing, Lockheed, General dynamics...et al. Also effected will be National Parks, The Smithsonian and other "stuff" like that. I'm retired military myself and I wanted to be sure so, I inquired. It was explained to me by a staff member from Sen. Rubio's office.

@SuperNolimetangere Don't worry. In the event of a government shutdown, All government retirement checks (including, military, civil service and social security) will be uninterrupted. All essential government services will also continue. Only non essential services will shut down.
