  • Tom Scholtz / Boston has a great hammond sound and some great solos on the 1st few Boston lps i spec like Smokin' & Long Time/foreplay & Yes has some great Hammond solos "Roundabout" is a classic..

  • @MOSKII58 You'll find both in part 3. :)

  • Jon, Don, Keith•••••

    They are my GOD!

  • whats at 4:23 ive heard the song before?

  • @StDeClan18 Highway Star from Deep Purple.

  • thanks for share !

  • That Brian Auger solo is amazing, but the song you have listed is not correct, I downloaded whenever your ready but it doesn't sound like that at all. can you get the right song please? Thanks

  • @jocasja It is the correct song, he just plays the solo differently in the live version. Check out other live performances on YouTube if you want a similar version.

  • I wish you had put the ID subtitles in this set like you did in part 1. Fantastic pieces all of them though!

  • @thefabulousstevieg Yeah, I wanted to, originally, but some of the clips are too short to do so, which made me decide to skip it altogether. You can find everyone in the description though, otherwise, feel free to ask.

  • what song is at 2:07?

  • @Malsanoman Brian Auger - Whenever You're Ready

  • @Sycsa Do you know, which concert exactly is this recording from? I`d like to see whole performance, its simply magnificent! In advance thank you for any information! And many, many thanks for uploading this!

  • Might as well have titled these "I love Keith Emerson and Jon Lord and You Should Too"

  • No House of the Rising Sun?? or My own way to Rock??

  • @Freddymusician House of the Rising Sun wasn't even played on a Hammond...

  • @Sycsa true, that would be a Vox Continental as seen in the music video. Great solo though!

  • Fuck you, Keith Emerson. You destroyed so many amazing instruments! btw. No Matthew Fisher solo?

  • @SirKurek He actually didn't destroy a single one, he always beat up the same L100 and had it repaired after every gig.

  • @Sycsa Oh. I must admit I wasn't aware of that as I'm not a big fan of ELP. I know barely few songs of them. Thank you for the info. Greetings.

  • Wouldn't want to have Jon Lord or Keith Emerson's backs today after what they put them through toward the end of this video, ouch! Hopefully, they kept them straight (their backs) during all that!

  • Have a look at Robin Piso from DeWolff..... maybe in part 4?

  • 7:30! Amazing! Who is that dude?! LOL

  • does anyone know a song by a female british artist, voice sounds simmilar to dido. The song has an amazing hammond solo at the begginig of the track, it was very psychedelic. I think this is a new song 2009-2010 but not well known.

  • great! Who's playing at 6:00?

  • No Vincent Crane?

  • @VikkiFixx There are a few bits from Vincent in part 3 of this video series.

  • wonderfull women!!

  • and the greatest hammond organ solos 3?

  • @Shagofull It's been up for a few days, you can find it on my channel or in the related videos.

  • @passionatearts Apocalypse in 9/8 deserves its own video, I think.

  • With a name like Jon Lord, I stop there. Brilliant!

  • 1.Keith Emerson - Emerson, Lake and Palmer ( ELP ) - Promenade ( Pictures at an Exhibition )... AND MUSORGSKY!

  • 9/11?? An 11th note then gets a beat!

  • Super Hammond solo compilations! 5*****

  • ITS DEFINITLY NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT CHESTER THOMPSON IM AFRAID WITHOUT THIS PLAYER THIS VIDEO IS JIMMY SMITH ALONE!ABSOLUTLEY ADORE SMITH!

  • @passionatearts I agree. Tony was such a shy, introverted performer he and his influence on keyboard playing as a whole seems to be forgotten often.

  • @passionatearts Agreed. Rick Wakeman had some pretty choice Hammond solos as well.

  • BRIAN AUGER'S IT'S THE BEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST

  • Argent anyone?

  • Another vote for Green-Eyed Lady

  • YOU'VE GOT SOME GREAT STUFF HERE, BUT HOW CAN YOU LEAVE OUT THE GREAT CHESTER THOMPSON FROM HIS TOWER OF POWER DAYS? HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THE 23 MINUTE VERSION OF "KNOCK YOURSELF OUT"? I SAW THIS MAN GO SOLO ON "WHAT IS HIP" AND I WAS SPELLBOUND!!!

  • No rick wakeman?!?!?!

  • It´s a real pity there isn´t video material of Lee Michaels. It would be very nice to see him playing his hammond. But this selection is GREAT. Wow...

  • Madness continues, nobody can stand still while playing this awesome instrument, neither can I,myself, while watching:)I just hope this is not a lonesome opinion:D

  • How about the Awesome classic B-3 solo from Green-Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf?

  • I LOVE THIS INSTRUMENT! I've been playing Piano for 15 years, I ve uploaded a Jon Lord cover for his mighty highway star made in japan organ solo!!! This is a faithful version , not like many invented one here on youtube, If you want to come and listen it is VERY appreciated since it's my second musical vid on youtube :D just click on my profile, it lasts 1m30s , Peace and Rock to alll!!!!

  • @passionatearts Marian Varga is also forgotten!

  • awesome mix dude!!!!

  • thnaks for the brian auger clip...one of theeeee best

  • No Lee Michaels?

  • both of these vids are missing everything Camel ever did. listen to the song Never Let Go and tell me the organ solo doesnt belong here. seriously. it might not be a hammond organ. so please inform.

  • WOW THERE IS A BUNCH LEFT OUT VICENT CRANE,DAVID SANCIOUS,TONY KAYE,TONY BANKS,BILLY PRESTON,ROD ARGENT,FLAVIO PREMOLI,RICK WAKEMAN,PATRICK MORAZ ,STEVE WINWOOD,GREG ROLIE,TOM COASTER

BLUE WEAVER ,JOHN HAWKEN ,I COULD GO ON AND ON

  • Got some major players missing here... maybe it's time for a part 3. Including B-3 soulful master Lee Michaels. It brought the B-3 to a whole different kind of music than most of the other greats.

  • Gee, you're not TOO partial to John Lord are ya? Ha, ha, it was great, I love the mix.

  • What? So Rick Wakeman and Tony Banks didn't use B3s- come on, Close to the Edge and Supper's Ready man!

  • @danmist Tony used an L-100.

  • @passionatearts Thanks! It's not intended to be complete, I'm planning a third part, but I don't really have the time for it nowadays.

  • i'm also surprised that there is no john medeski here

  • No Genesis???

  • Some nice examples here. What makes a great keyboardist is not always just about the solo.

Some more great rock organists from the 70s include Rod Argent (Argent), Rick Wakeman (Yes), Jerry Corbetta (Sugarloaf), Tony Banks (Genesis), Rick Wright (Pink Floyd) Patrick Moraz, Billy Preston... also check out Rare Bird (AYMFB "As Your Mind Flies By") and Procol Harem

  • hey where is rick wakeman or rick wright or even tony banks?????!?!?!?!?!??

  • i expected to see some of tony banks

  • Good stuff. I wanna know who the young lady in the second piece is. (and I'm ashamed I don't know).

  • @WillyDaC Rhoda Scott

  • @WillyDaC .........and you should check out her duet with Barb Dennerlein. Awesome!

  • ...Ken Hensley, Uriah Heep's keyboardist

  • @jacktheripped Man, you nailed it. One of the greatest, for-fricken-sure!

  • And where is Medeski?!?!?!?!?

  • @trouble042 could be sitting on the toilet right now, you never know

  • No homo

  • Barbara Dennerlein!! I forgot all about her. Brilliant!!

  • Where is Apocalypse in 9/8 by Genesis? Its clearly one of the greatest Hammond solos of all time, and if you're looking for recordings, how about Genesis Live?

  • @remnrone why do you people always ask "where is this, where is that, what about this, why didn't you include that..." What kind of answer do you really expect?

  • sweet thanks bro

  • @Keyboarddan13 Glad you liked it! :)

  • @Sycsa Hey dude this is really cool. you should include some of gospel music's organists too. They can really mess up an organ also.

  • what was the last song on this video called?

  • @Keyboarddan13 Mandrake root by Deep Purple. They later incorporated that part in the live versions of Space Truckin

  • also Asozialer gehts nicht mehr !

  • I think its safe to say your a Jon Lord fan. lol

  • Part 1 and 2 is a nice mix.

    Do you play Hammond-Organ too?

  • @imajazzman06 I do, I don't have a real Hammond yet though. I have a Roland VK-7 which I use with a Leslie 760.

  • 0:46 who is that????

  • @fabioz91 Rhoda Scott

  • @Sycsa thanks! but the one big thing that is forgotten about this video is funkadelic - some more (solo at the end by bernie worrell)

  • hammonds are god, pity they are really expensive, and add a leslie...

  • RICHARD WRIGHT??? Pink Floyd... hello, you missed some big ones!

  • Man, i dont agree.

    Where´s Raymond Manzarek?

    This guy is a wizard.

  • @ccrcountry

Manzarek only used a Hammond on a couple of songs. I'm not actually sure what he used most of the time apart from the Fender-Rhodes bass piano.

  • @ccrcountry Farfisa... kid

  • also like to hear ray manzarek in there somewhere and maybe tony banks... its gettin abit repetitive with jon lord and jimmy smith

  • Any one ever heard of maso woods on organ back in the day

  • the best organisst in the universe is joey defrancesco if you dont know him look him up oin yuoutube it will take you 3 seconds to be blown away

  • boo on the dislikers... PUNKS!

  • These all are very good players, but i miss here Marián Varga from Slovak band Collegium Musicum.

  • Hey,what about Rick Wakeman,Thys Van Leer???????

  • @gabel1974 Stay tuned for Part 3! :)

  • Rick WAkeman, no play the hammond, only synth

Rick Wakeman no toca el hammond...

  • where's Ray Vanderby in this vid!

    so enjoyable, Awesome vid!!!

  • What organ was used on ( the happy organ by dave baby cortez)

  • what about Deep Purple´s (Jon Lord) April?

  • 3:16 , wich song is it?, it's great . Amazing video! Airey!

  • My suggestions for a 3rd would include Vincent Crane from Atomic Rooster, the jazz player Joey DeFrancesco, Thijs van Leer from Focus and John Novello from Niacin.

  • @PraxisScream Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of John Novello when I made this video, he's a big favorite of mine nowadays. The others are also exceptional players.

  • "disrespecting the instrument" is ludicrous, the sweet thing wouldn't make that beautiful noise w/o a lil bit of motivation...btw, also need that dude from hungary please help me

  • re Scholz : He literally kicks a Hammond organ's ass on "Gonna Hitch a Ride'. He should be here some where.

  • Fuck I love the sound of a HAMMOND

  • Nice collection, where's Rick Wakeman from yes?

  • keith emerson nao respeiita seu hammond ¬¬

  • hey love to see that tehtube guy from Hungary playing Hush My Way with all these greats - good choice!!!!! What's his name anyway?

  • Ken Hensley And Jon Lord For ever ... Hammond B3 for ever too .-)

  • Too much of Jon Lord and Emerson. Other great players missing.

  • I don't know about that. Emerson is the only guy I have ever seen that plays the keyboard backwards with difficult stuff. I agree there are some other guys that should be in there, but there is always another video that could be made.

  • ...no Ken Hensley?... no Doug Ingle?...

  • play tht Hammond C3 Rhoda scott

  • damn funky at 7:20 !

  • do you know who is it?

  • Some awesome organ playing. Thanks. By the way, do you know of a Slovak keyboard player Marian Varga? I see someone has already mentioned him in the comments.

  • Forgive me as I'm not an organ player, but I really enjoy the organ parts that Tom Scholz of Boston put into many songs, especially "Smokin."' I haven't seen anyone mention him though.

  • Yep, I really like that too, Sholz had some great moments with his L100. Aside from Smokin, there is Foreplay\Long time, which is covered very often by Hammond players here on YouTube.

  • Nice video, but hated the last couple of minutes. Such disrespect for a fine instrument!

  • One might argue about that, since Emerson had a team wich always repaired his damaged L100 after each show and he never even touched his C3 and Lord's organ is still touring with Deep Purple today.

  • @Sycsa Regardless, it is still very hard to look at. Besides I am a Wakeman fan as he is much more refined as Emerson is more ham-fisted.

  • @Sycsa

Actually, the C3 that Jon used with Purple in the classic MkII days died in 1973. Jon has mentioned this himself in interviews, and it's easy to see why:-) He got a different one from "Burn" onwards.

  • @Innerspace100 Yep, that's true. As far as I know, Jon had a spinet Hammond in the Artwoods days, then he swiched to an A100 for the first gigs of DP MKI(you can see it on the earliest DP concert footage here, on YouTube), then the management bought him a C3, then he got Christine McVie's C3, which was chopped later for the 80's gigs, then reassembled(although the cut remained clearly visible) and even used by Don Airey. I'm not sure where is it now though, since I saw Don using a B3 lately.

  • Shit! again Keith Emerson!

  • hammond rapists. john lord ftw

  • GREAT MIX!!! You actually determined begin and end notes of the fragments and let it flow into eachother... Awesome!

  • Yep, I tried to do that so it would become a whole instead of several parts. Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • Whats the song no. 1?

  • Pictures at an Exhibition by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, originally composed by Modest Mussorgsky.

  • on another note, does anyone know the specific name of the technique used throughout the video, but especially right at 7:18 ?

I thought it was called "slurring" but i'm really completely unsure and I find it flippin' awesome

  • They call it many things, like organ rakes, but most notably glissando as far as I know. It really sounds incredibly awesome, a beastial sound you can only achieve with a Hammond organ. A fast rotating Leslie is also important to add depth, but it sounds great regardless. Many-many Hammond players use it in various settings and everyone does it a bit differently.

  • So Emerson is God... The guy from Focus?, what chopped liver?

  • Emerson is not God. Jimmy Smith is God.

Emerson played the organ with Jack McDuff's influence, and Jack McDuff started up after Jimmy Smith.

  • whats the song at 7:25

  • Diva Mode by The Big Organ Trio.

  • ok, yes, you've shown many and many videos of keith emerson and jon lord...and tony banks' solo on supper's ready? and rick wakeman solo on close to the edge? well, my personal point of view is this: FAST and CRAZY is not MUSIC; piercing an hammond with a knife or shake it or ride it is just SHOW, not ART...hope you won't hate me for what I've written :)

  • Of course not, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. :-)

I don't consider Rick Wakeman and especially Tony Banks a Hammond organist, although they have some good Hammond moments. The Hammond destruction part is an exciting, adrenalin pumping finale to the video, that's the point of it. Whether it's art or not is not a relevant question. Cheers!

  • So, where's Rick Van Der Linden of Ekseption?

  • wow, great compilation !!!

  • Thanks!

  • One of my fav Organ solo is on the Shadows' version of " Proud Mary " ( 1971)you know this one ?

  • Organ rules ! ! !

    king of instruments ! ! !

    sooooo funky !

  • god it kills me to see Keith trash his organ like that, great vids but what's with the lack of Rick Wakeman?

  • We've discussed Wakeman a million times already. Bottom line: as far as I'm concerned, he(although an incredible musician) is not a Hammond organ player.

  • Jon Lord rules! By the way, nice work Sycsa!

  • Thanks!

  • yeahhhhhhhhhhh! but where's rick wakeman

  • Well, both parts are about hammond solos, not greatest players ever,so far I've seen Wakeman only with synthesizers.

  • amazing video

  • which is the one at 4:54

  • It's a YouTube user named Organgrinder010.

  • szuper ez is ..jo munkat vegeztel baratom.legkozzelebb mikor osszeulunk erre iszunk egy sort.;)

  • Kösz szépen, barátom! ;) Úgy lesz!

  • Great vid, great editing!!! So many great players...and a fine homage to Jon Lord in and of itself. Thanks! :)

  • Still after seeing this x numbers of times it`s still as good as the first time i saw it.

Thanks once again for posting this video:)

  • Thanks a lot, I'm very glad you liked it!

  • The Hammond is king!

  • I think you did a great job. Barbara Dennerlien is my new favorite and could watch her all day. I grew up with Theis Van Lear (Focus) and would love to see him included if you ever do another one. Keep rockin brother and keep rockin' HAMMOND/LESLIE.

  • Thank you! I like Thijs van Leer as well and I will surely include him if I ever finish my third video. Hammond forever, let it scream!

  • Amen, let it scream! PS. I KNEW I spelled that wrong....Thanks for getting it right....Thijs Van Leer...young or old, he's great.

  • not sure if it's on hammond but there's a brilliant little organ solo in the live version of Cold Beverages by G. Love and Special Sauce

  • You didn't include Apocalypse in 9/8 solo by T. Banks.

Not the most technically impressive one... but one of the most memorable ones still.

  • Sorry i forgot to mention that the Deep Purple's BURN solo is one or maybe THE greatest of all time along with Highway star... What happened men!!! Please include...

  • Thank for your excellent input. I'd vote Jon Lord as the LORD of Hammond but i guess that's just my opinion. But, what happened to the "House of the rising sun" solo?

  • Thanks! Lord is my personal favorite as well, but I think that the real LORD is the magnificent Hammond organ, the mighty instrument which inspired so many incredible musicians from so many different genres.

As much as I like the "House of the Rising Sun", I couldn't have included it since it's not even played on a Hammond organ... Maybe someone could do a Greatest Vox Continental Organ Solos compilation :-)

  • Where'd you find the organ solo in the concerto for group and orchestra video? I'm trying VERY HARD to find it.

  • Not at all. The whole Concerto is up on YouTube. Just search for "Deep Purple-Second Movement part 2", the organ solo starts around 4 minutes in.
