Me and My grandpa used to mute the tv and listen to Ernie call the games because now one could do it better that is one of my fondest memories of me and my grandpa and thanks to Ernie Harwell I will never forget those days. God Bless you ernie and condolence to your entire family.
For the rest of the country who never got to hear Ernie's sweet southern drawl late in the evening during the summer, you missed the most wonderful voice ever in baseball. I was lucky to hear him many times growing up from 1960 on. This was a one of a kind person whom every Tiger fan loved. He was our Ernie and how lucky we were that he was.
I remember when Phil Rizzuto passed away how much us Yankee fans mourned so the Michigan fans who rooted and listen to the Tigers are probably mourning just as much...I never knew nor had a chance to listen to Mr. Harwell much only from afar, but I can sympathized with every Tigers fan who has that he'll be remembered not so much missed but will be in the hearts of every Detroit Tiger and baseball fans everywhere. What a voice for the game.
If you ever met Ernie as I was fortunate to once, he was like a long-time friend who was genuinely glad to meet you. He was the greatest announcer in baseball and we were lucky to call him our own. God Bless you Ernie.
Ernie was and forever be one of the classiest humane beings to ever grace this green earth!!!!!!! God bless you Ernie your great voice and ora will live in my heart till the day are good lord takes me!!!!! very sad day, and even when you were faced with death you some how made us feel safe and good about are selfs, I can honestly say you where like a father to me!!
Bless you, Ernie, and Bless you, Boys. You will be missed, but you will also be a dear part of our lives and those whose lives you touched. We are all so much better for having had you as a part of our summers.
A sad, sad day in Michigan and across the nation. Ernie was the greatest announcer in all of sports....Thanks Ernie, for teaching me the game I love today....RIP ERINE
Ernie will always remind me of summer and the Tigers. I grew up listening to him and I miss hearing him call the game dearly. Even though I never have met him he is a part of my family.
ernie, i live in pennsylvania just over the ohio line, i always liked baseball, one day in the early 80's i came across a ballgame on the old am radio and the voice that was doing the announcing was very soothing, very professional. i knew before the game was over i just became a tigers fan. i listened to you every chance i got and just about every game in 1984. sometimes i thought about driving to the corner of michigan & trumbull but then again, i could see fine from where i was, thankyou
This man has lived his entire life as a testament to how a man should live. Absolute class, humility, and love for his fellow man. God Bless you Ernie, I just hope you have received as many blessings as you have given to so many over the years. Thanks!
