The 1979 adaptation (mini-series) with Joana David, Anna Massey and Jeremy Brett is very good too. You can find it on You Tube and nowhere else, like a bunch of Jeremy Brett's appearances. To have a good summary of his career and know what to look for, have a glance to the video "A Journey Through Time"...
She’s near she’s here (I: -oh no) She can see she can hear (I: -no) She’s a force you should fear Rebecca wherever you may be (I: she’s force) life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast (I: a shadow of a ghost) Voices sigh in the air everywhere Rebecca Come back Rebecca You’re not meant to be a shadow of a ghost.
This is her brush her hair was full and dark I brushed it every night she wore satin and velvet she looked like a queen her smile was boyish when I saw her for the last time she won’t smile at me anymore but she’s near all the same Hear the wind, it is calling her name Rebecca Wherever you may be Life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast Voices sigh in the air everywhere Rebecca Come back Rebecca You’re not meant to be a shadow of a ghost
This was her bed and here, this was her nightgown Beautiful, isn’t it? Hold it and touch it and feel it It’s soft and it’s light I haven’t washed it since she wore it for the last time She wont sleep here anymore But she’s near all the same Hear the surf, it is calling her name Rebecca Wherever you may be Life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast Voices sigh in the air everywhere Rebecca Come back Rebecca You’re not meant to be a shadow of a ghost.
As I said, the lyrics I typed is not perfect. But I’ve been listening to this song over and over again, so I’ve found some parts that needed correction. So once again the full lyrics – with no more mistakes, I hope. :)

Do you hear? The surf is calling her name. Rebecca Rebecca Rebecca Rebecca Rebecca This was her bed and here, this was her nightgown. Beautiful, isn’t it? this video contains only a shorter version of this song. I tried to type the whole lyrics, but there can be misunderstood parts in it, so please correct them. Thanks.
Mrs. Danvers: -It’s a lovely room, isn’t it? Mrs. De Winter’s private suite.
I: -Yes, it’s beautiful.
Mrs. Danvers: -Mr. de Winter has not entered her rooms since the night Mrs de Winter was drowned.
Absolutely stunning song. This gave me such goosebumps--Susan does an excellent job with this in German, but of course Pia is amazing in this recording (as usual). I would love to see a production of this in any language, but the prospect of seeing it in English is so exciting!
What is this song called? It's amazing! It's Mrs. Danvers, right? I'm reading the book and it's amazing! I adore Mrs. Danvers XD lmfao everyone I know hates her..lol
Yes I adore her greatly. And pity her, too. She was like a mother to Rebecca, she raised her, she was her maid, her best friend, and her companion. Rebecca was the only thing Mrs. Danvers lived for and when she went, she took everything. Actually, I don't believe she was ever married. The title "Mrs" was common respect for people in her position.
Lexi, you're probably right about the husband - I had forgotten that convention for housekeepers/companions. I think Mrs Danvers was probably gay and in lust with Rebecca -there does seem to be a sexual element in her devotion.
Hilariously enough, Uwe's actually a couple years older than Maxim! I don't really see him as the Maxim from the book though. He and the composers go way back, so that's a guess at why he was cast.
In 2006 Uwe was younger than Maxim, he was 41 back then. Now he is 44 but still had to color his hair grey in every show because he looks so young!
In my opinion he is the perfect Maxim by the way, I can't remember there will ever be someone who gets that close to the character (except Oliver). For me Uwe IS Maxim!
Well said! It was obvious to me that he'd read the book...He's just so in-character when he's performing that it doesn't seem like he's onstage with an audience...
@sharonafox1 I hate it when people say stuff like that! Yes its a very good film and there are many brilliant old films. But to say there are no "Real" movies presently is kind of ignorant. Maybe you choose to focus on the junk? I think you'll find there are many brilliant films and awful ones, just like there used to be good and crap ones 'back then.' It's just only the good stand the test of time and therefore it's easier to forget the rubbish then it is currently.
@violetnike I didn't say there are no real movies today. My comment did allude to my belief that many of the movies that make it to the big screen these days from Hollywood either are or contain a large amount of garbage. Back in the 30's and 40's studio heads were not only motivated by making money but inspiring the masses with stories that contained moral teachings. Today the dollar rules Hollywood. There are still some good movies but a larger percentage fail the quality test.
Listen to the lyrical chant of my pudendal whiskers. Do they frighten you Not?

I wonder why people think Mrs. Danvers is a lesbian?
Beale64 2 years ago
There are reasons probably linked to her being so totally devoted to Rebecca and talking about her as a lover would do...IMHO

LOL!

@Beale64 She is not. She is obsessed with her daughter, Rebecca. (SPOILER)
EmilyGreene1984 1 year ago
@EmilyGreene1984 Rebecca wasn't her daughter, Mrs Danvers just brought up her. Rebecca's mother died, it is written in the book.

I love this movie and I love daphne du maurier.
It's amazing. The movie is very, very close to the book. The characters are exactly like I'd imagined.
Btw, a great muscial too, besides I don't like Uwe Kroeger that much as Maxim. He seems to young.

Love Alfred Hitchcock films, and this is one of my favorites.
A musical, huh? Incredible, what will they think up next.
Did you enjoy the musical?, the song you provided sounds intriguing.

Not quite, he's reworking the translation to better sound in English. (Some of the English demo DOES sound in dire need of extensive re-writing!)
