@troyboy408 when people talk about spandex being stupid in cycling they've obviously never done any serious cycling. try climbing 12% grades and riding hours in your cotton t shirt and cargo shorts and see how comfortable that is.
@hzuhairy virtually impossible on all but the least maintained bike... that said, the wheel was definitely locked up, but sometimes the cable will slip at the clamp on the front brake's quick release due to under-tightening; it's the only way you'd totally lose control like that... same thing happened to me when a cop blew a light in manhattan and I slammed into the side of him because my front cable slipped from strangling the lever while the rear locked up.
can't really tell happened but if he locked up even at that speed and in those conditions iam pretty sure you would go flying over the handlebars yeah but ill have a stab in the dark and say that his brake cable snapped and that caused it.
@archernewb obviously you have never been in a road bike in this conditions...it is extremely slick on the streets leading into towns because of motor oil and diesel...He was going a bit too fast and straight at the road sign in the middle of the two way road...he avoided by going wider and then try to put the left leg down to skid the bike towards the opposite direction without luck...I don't think he freaked out at all.
@avidal7 The bike was straight up when he locked up, he didn't even start turning, he panicked and over braked. I ride motorcycles and bicycles often, I know two wheel dynamics very well.
omg.... those RETARDS ... they were looking at him sliding towards them and NOBODY moved ???? ..... they deserved to get seriously injured for being such IDIOTS!! ... omfg ... i stil cant believe that ppl can be so stupid... hope they never go to watch that tour ever again!..
That rider gets DRIFT award of the year!!! Wow! That was like 100 ft of drifting sideways clipped out on one foot --- that slide was about twice as fast as Cavendish's sprint in the headwind on #4.
too much rain make the ride to hard </3

That was pretty obviously an over-cooked corner. That was a typical rear-wheel lockup

him freaking out probably saved his life (putting his body on the far side of the bike.) His miss judgement of the speed caused him the crash .

wow those spectators are complete retards for not moving! It's pretty obvious when you see a cyclist going at that speed coming towards you.
pocketsearch 1 year ago
Now that's drifting. The dude should be a serious contender in D1.
But seriousle, it look like the front cable snaped. Rear brake serve not purpose in those situations. That must have been scarying to death.

@feg466 His brake malfunctioned. I think it snapped.
davd1986 1 year ago
As yet unidentified? Easy enough to find out, he was the only Lotto rider in the break: Gerben Löwik. His brake cable had snapped.
