they used this kind of technique A LOT. the hedge sketch is a good example. they were not actually getting the lines wrong. in a "special squad" sketch, stephen "accidentally" walked out of the set.

I mean look at Monty Python: John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and Eric Idle, all pretty tall fellows. Hugh and Stephen seem both over 6 feet at least.
