That's why I sort of disappeared from youtube. I haven't got much to say that hasn't been to said to the "choir". I've been changing minds (with some actual success, three friends are approaching approaching this with the same intensity I do, others, not yet) , I think that's the most crucial thing and the thing I do best.
As an individual you have a few years to get your shit together and be prepared. Of course sooner you start more prepared you will be. Knowledge, equipment, supplies, non-hybrid seeds, and a decent location all take time to gather and prepare for their use.
Society is lost, their time is gone. Western Civ. is over but just hasn't finished its death throws. We should have reacted and changed much sooner. If we all suddenly decided to drop all petty arguments, pooled all resources and devoted our all to fixing the world, it could be saved. That though is completely unlikely.
With out the unity, we will fail. So society is dead & just doesn't know it. It is just too late for people to be educated & then start changing. The delay between cause and effect deceived people into thinking they had time to change later, when they didn't. So it is time to prepare personally to gather into groups of like mind & try to educate the ones out there that are already on the road, but don't worry about those resistant to change. Figure out your "escape plan", how will you survive?
As the choir alludes, even if only change occurs within us then there is one who may well survive the crash whenever it occurs.
It's doing now whatever you can to separate from the grid. In '86 I was happy w/some coffee, salt, fishing tools, & a crossbow in a lean-to next to a year round spring. More comfy now, but they still are the core.
Figure out your minimum. Create it. Nowhere to go but up from there!
Right on! You got it right. find your basic needs (not wants) and then make sure you have that.
As you say anything else is for comfort and improvement of your day to day living.
For all the nameless masses, know where to draw the line and say you don't need more crap!!
Possession is self slavery. More you own the more tired to it you become. More you need to protect it, maintain it, store it, etc... Which tends to make you need to own more stuff, that needs all of the same.
Perhaps we should no longer cooperate with whatever it is we wish to see done away with or reformed. And perhaps we can start trying to get the message out to those who aren't in the choir in more practical ways.
There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquerIt makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble; how hopeless the outlook; how muddled the tangle; how great the mistake. A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all. Emmet Fox
this is one effort that is making small, powerful changes and i think is a very effective first step towards a healthy sustainable world. its the freemind project. its really amazing. check it out
We really don't have any time left, or we can't afford to play around. I've reached the point, where Jensen would ask "are you better off dying, would that help the planet more?" and sometimes, I don't know. I certainly consume less, bike and walk, garden, but it's difficult to see any long term from small changes that still keep the system going. I have always been disinclined to tearing the system down, because I can only forsee it being useless and getting me drugged and jailed.
Which leaves me questioning and trying to figure out what I can do, whats the most important change I can manifest, how I can be of most use in the world without being pigeonholed as some kind of extremist or just schizophrenic-depressive. I understand your frustration. Maybe we should be starting a mission.
Nothing wrong to preaching to the choir, as long as everyone is *practicing* what they preach/listen to. Its a process, and talking about it together keeps us going. I'm travelling right now, as a part of trying to make changes, but I do know some folks that are starting local healing circles as Lewis Mehl-Madrona suggests. I think alot of frustration comes from not from what others are not doing, but from our own unwillingness to see and try what WE ourselves really want to do.
"...Grandfather spoke again. "Trying to live a spiritual life in modern society is the most difficult path one can walk. It is a path of pain, of isolation and of shaken faith, but that is the only way that our Vision can become reality ..."
i'm ready to talk about what we'd do with the time we've got... let's switch gears.

How long do we have? Two answers
-personal time left

If people would wake the fuck up, maybe a century, if not, I give it about 50 years before all the forests become extinct.

And there are many out there, who don't bother with this medium, they spend more time fighting then spreading the word.

Its something I constantly ask myself.
Similar questions:
How quickly do I need to start collecting seeds?
How quickly do I have to learn to grow food?
