depends on how far you go. under 150 air miles you dont. over that you do. also there are some interstate issues to deal with as well. however I will say that I know there are guys with 3/4 or 1T pickups with tag cargo trailers that dont cross scales, or deal with DOT stuff, even tho they should.
Yup, its true. Its an impressive truck, and the power curve and gearing are ideal for towing. Without a trailer, its geared way too low. At one point in the video, I was turning onto a highway going downhill a bit, but otherwise its more or less flat. remember the total weight of truck and trailer is around 20K, the trailer is about 13K
@subbass32 This is the 6spd? Ive got the same truck people on here commenting dont know because they dont own one. The 6spd. are mean pulling machines they are geared very low/ Ive got a 2006 6spd. 5.9L single cab 4x4 btw
@longboardguy Yes its the G56 6 speed, and as you say it is geared pretty low, too low in fact to drive comfortably without a load. I frequently shift 2-4-6 when running light. I also start in compound low when on an incline, not so much clutch slipping to get moving.
@subbass32 cool Ill have to try that (2-4-6) I have found that low is good to start in in different scenarios like you said to avoid access slipping. Although the gearing is low though I love the truck its been super reliable, I get really good milage. Anyways great video love the setup!!
I just got a new set of tires on the rear, and at 154000 miles, almost all of it towing heavy, my rear brakes are still at about 75%, and those are the original brakes. I think thats a pretty powerful endorsement of the PacBrake, or any exhaust brake when towing!!
the exaust brakes on these truck isnt loud its not really like a jake that operates the valves it just blocks the exaust to create back pressure so they are pretty quiet
No not at all. Its basically pretty quiet. Has pretty much the same kind of sound tho. But nothing you cant just drive around with in any environment.
Only use when towing, though! I just rolled down the Lewiston grade yesterday, in 5th gear using no brakes @20500 lbs. had to tap the brakes a little when the grade reached 7% near the bottom.
Yes its the PXRB. I drove my other rig, a Duramax/Allison for a few days this week, I sure prefer the low end of the Cummins and to row my own gears. And the retarding power of the Pacbrake is so much better than the grade braking on the Allison. I have 142000 miles and am still on the original brakes, and probably all but 1000 miles are towing heavy!
yeah sick truck man not possible to stall that thing it just makes to much torque. low can spin the tires without any gas it will just sit there and hop
hopefully. I want to do one with an external mic somehow. this thing sounds really cool from the outside, but I hardly ever hear it that way... its on my to-do list....
373. plenty low even for this weight. in fact I would say almost perfect for heavy towing. unloaded its almost too low. The 06s with the 5.9 were not available with a 4.11 from the factory.
Sounds awesome. Very few videos of trucks towing on youtube, thanks for the videos. If you do any others can you post a view looking out the windshield?
I bought one of those $20 flexible tripods, they're really helpful. If you've looked at my videos, I've got shots of my truck with the Corsa exhaust using one of those tripods. I wrapped it around my neck before to do my 1st person POV shooting videos. Don't know about the mic...
If I did that the truck would actually come to a stop! 2nd is plenty low for a steep descent with the exhaust brake, in fact at times even thats too slow. it has a LOT of retarding power!
I leave the brake truned on all the time, it operates as you said, anytime I take my foot off the accellerator pedal. There is a slight delay, to account for shifting gears, and the brake wont operate when the clutch is pressed. With no trailer, I turn the brake off, it has too much retarding power in most cases, you dont want to just lift off the gas pedal and surge to a stop!!
thats a good set up!, my uncle had one rigged up in his old work truck, it was a mid 90s 3/4 ton gmc, but it was full manual, we had a little switch on the floor, when it was pressed the exhaust brake would close over
Thanks. Its 58.7mb, shot with a Fuji S700 digital camera. I have found that a high speed card really helps on the video quality. I want to rig a mic up outside the truck and do a similar recording when I figure out how to do it. Its very cool sounding, I have only heard it from the outside a couple of times.

THATS RETARDED! sorry i hadda lol
i got a question, is it like the rigs where if you tough the accelerator or the clutch will it turn off automatically, or is it full manual
