They're exactly right. I drum for a local metal band called Harvester, and we have violent lyrics... The point is that we'd never actually act on them. I'm by no means an aggressive person, but I love bands like Slipknot and Lamb of God. When people ask me why I listen to them if I'm not aggressive, I explain that I'm human, and like everyone I have aggressive feelings. The difference is that I take those feelings out through music instead of shooting/beating somebody up.

They're exactly right. I drum for a local metal band called Harvester, and we have violent lyrics... The point is that we'd never actually act on them. I'm by no means an aggressive person, but I love bands like Slipknot and Lamb of God. When people ask me why I listen to them if I'm not aggressive, I explain that I'm human, and like everyone I have aggressive feelings. The difference is that I take those feelings out through music instead of shooting/beating somebody up.

I hate how like violence is being caused by video games, movies and music. I have to say tho that this might be true depending how old you are, at the age of 13 or so, you shouldn't have any problems in realising what is reality and what is fantasy. Slipknot makes me less violent because I am head banging or jamming along on my guitar and screaming instead of killing someone, and people in the mosh pits are very nice, as soon as you fall down or trip, you are picked back up, and nobody is throwing fists on purpose, they are just playfully bumping eachother and it's a positive way of getting out anger. Parents shouldn't blind their kids. Just teach them to see. Let them listen to their ART, and then talk to them about how they aren't encouraging people to be violent, they are instead expressing themselves in a positive way. I'm only 18, and don't have a kid, but I'll let him listen to whatever music he wants, then talk to him about it and be as open-minded as I can.
