The bubo also adds an unwanted fish-eye effect with the wide angle lens. When taking photos you also get a beveled look on each corner. Cropping can remove it, but you also lose part of the image - the whole point of having a wide angle lens. The distributor does not disclose this info.

Thanks to Owle Bubo, mi iPhone is not so crappy at taking pics and video anymore. Buy the Sima SL20LXI light and those birthdays parties videos become much better. And talk about software, upload to you tube on the spot, hundreds of Photography Apps (by the way...in the top paid apps, the most expensive one now is $3.99, most of them are just $.99--BEAT THAT!

And this accessory will definitely improve my LIVE video streaming....and guess what....UStream......that App is free.

The wide angle lens is not the macro lens. If you examine your lens, you should see that it is made of two parts, one screws into the other. You need to unscrew the outer wide-angle part to get to the macro lens. Try it, you will drool.

Chris, have you considered looking up magnetic lenses made for small cameras and, more specifically, the iPhone? They come with an adhesive washer that allows the lens(es) to stick. The OWLE Bubo, though a great product, seems to be a bit bulky and that could be a hassle if you're on the go; magnetic lenses are small enough to fit in your pocket, great for when you're on the go. The OWLE also effects the audio of your video, where as a magnetic lens does not.

Just a thought ;)

I've seen them used and they work quite well. The magnets are strong enough to stay on the phone, but not strong enough to do any damage to your phone, plus you usually get more than one adhesive washer, so if you have a Vado or Flip type camera, or any camera with a fairly small lens, you can use the lenses there as well. Anyway, it was just a thought.

Quite a clever product but you would be an idiot to buy it. I can't believe that someone would use an iPhone for any serious photography so why would you care about wide angle and macro shots? Surely it's more practical to buy a dedicated camera.

i found putting the iphone into Airplane Mode solve that cracking noise problem. plus you probably dont want any1 call while u recording anyways. i had one myself it works great. another option would be the rode videomic (shotgun mic) which works great with it too.

well if you dont and you get a call your video is ruined so its a good rule of thumb =P

But even without especially for the blog style where you are talking while holding it works fine. Some higher end mics like the one made by Shure and Monster dont require airplane mode and the multifunction button starts and stops recordings!

i do wish there was a camera app with an airplane toggle though... hmmm........

To eau963, I believe it weights about a pound which may seem heavy but helps stability during videos. As far as taking phone calls I usually put the iphone in airplane mode and deal with the calls after I'm done filming.

I own an OWLE Bubo, love it and use it all the time. The supplied mic works good actually, I'm not sure if chris turned his iPhone to airplane mode that helps drastically with his sound issues. If anyone would like to see the OWLE Bubo in action please check out my videos, almost all of them are done with the OWLE.

Look at "Human Mario Kart" and "LEGOS Time-Lapse (NO HANDS!) these are my favorites.
