  • Mediocre...

  • Nice phrasing, great technique, very fluid, sweeeeet!!!!

  • there's nothing like a nice bunch of K's

  • Makes his father proud no doubt !

  • Capthandsome42, you epitomize all that is wrong with YouTube. The guy you replied to is saying (not very eloquently, granted) that although he is a guitarist, he CAN appreciate Kofi's playing. 'Shit hot' means great. In the UK at least. Nevertheless, let others have their opinion without having to be set upon.

  • He got his Dad's afro feel down. Wicked on his rudimental work. Nice BD ostinatos. It grooves too.Go on my son take it further , your Dad must be very proud.

  • Hows cookie doin?

    xD

  • love it man..its got to be in the genes, your biceps are probably bigger than gingers waist though lol..,may your drums never be silent...

  • good drumming bad mix.

  • @emaculate What don't you like about the mix?

  • @sheplaysajag cymbals and double bass sound very shoddy

  • @emaculate all the cymbal mics sound like there running hot. It drowns out the drums. I guess it all sound a little blurry ( Not Sloppy)...im not sure if thats the right word but i think you know what i mean

  • Very Good. Ginger must be very proud.

  • Peter Ginger Baker drumming god, Kofi's also brilliant!

  • Great work Kofi, I've been a fan of your father's for 45 years !! Best wishes at the show in London tonight !! Bakers Rule !! Peace

  • He has learned much from the old man BUT Ginger is still better (today) especially with the offbeat stuff. I cant think of anyone that could do the offbeat stuff Ginger did; not even Buddy Rich.

  • Technically drummers are getting much better proven here as his father didn't have these kinda chops. Is father definetly had some soul though.

  • just sound like a noise to me i play guitar never studed drums no this guys shit hot tho

  • @cameronc20 If you call yourself a musician and you can't understand why this is some phenomenal drumming, then you should quit being a musician.

  • @CaptHandsome42 i said i havent studed drums i play guitar i said he was shit hot u daft basterd

  • Kofi you are ten timesbetter Travis Barker

  • Back around 1989 at a popular bar, known as "The Bamboo" in Toronto (that featured a lot of worldbeat bands), I was taken by a friend I was playing with from Ghana to see a band playing there. The band was called "Native Spirit", and my friend kept asking me if I knew who was playing drums in the band. I said, "No", and he replied, "Jinjabacasun". I asked, "Who?", and he kept repeating the same thing. Eventually, I figured out he was saying "Ginger Baker's son!"

  • dude you fuckin kick ass

  • Kofi is great, but theres only one Baker

  • Sound fantastic full up audio set up - beyond fantatstic drumming.

  • I knew this guy kicked ass with OHM (chris poland's thing) but i had no idea he was ginger BAKER's son. I thought the last name was a coincidence of drummers. good stuff!

  • I want to hear him perform the drum solo from "Toad" and then I'll judge him against his father.

  • He's a hyperbolic genius of the highest orders when it comes to drums. He does, in fact, look like Ginger, but with much bigger muscles.

  • Beautiful work, wonderful technique and well thought out execution. This man learned many things from his great father Ginger. Now he's even taking it to another level,BTW Kofi those drumzz of yours are tuned real fine, the toms and the bass drum are very defined. the snare is cracking. Keep up this wonderful level. Fabulous work.

  • If you haven't listened to this with quality head phones you should try it. It sounds waaaaay better. Most computer or aux speakers don't do the audio justice.

Thanks for taking time to comment.

  • Kofi Baker has to be the most outstanding drummer I've ever met, heard and seen. He is pure Genius and amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he is the most amazing drummer.

  • you see how he is doin those quarter notes on the high hat with his foot

you have no idea how hard that is plus doin a drum solo so hard

  • as any great drummer in the history Ginger invented a style to play drum. That came from what he listened and then elaborated with his head. That's head matter, call it genius.

Tecnical skills is a different thing. Practice then practice then study if you had some disposition you can do well.

My drummer (who has still to demonstrate that he's a genius) can do all that stuff as well.

  • Ginger was the greatest drummer of all times in rock. Ginger was an amazing, melodic, polyrhythmic drummer who was quite avante garde and who viewed a musical piece differently than most of us. Now, Kofi: He's the greatest drummer in the world right now. What a genius. Very abstract at times, and very primal at times.

  • This guy is clearly gifted. Very complicated melody and beautifully rhythmic. He's far more technical than Ginger. I'm so surprised that Ginger, who is very slim and eccentric looking, has a son who's built like that. This guy is physically imposing, unlike his dad. I'm going to have to find out as much info of him as I can. This guy is a GENIUS!

  • ya, they don't look related AT ALL.... but he clearly inherited his dad's genius!

  • Good drummer, can hear his dad's influences. He repeats same riffs to much, to filled out, does'nt let the drums breathe, lacks dynamics and is not saying much.

  • Yeah, sounds like steel drums at carnivale in trinidad.Maybe it's the 'Nu' style drumming or equipment I don't like? no teeth or punch like vintage Laing,Baker or Paice.

  • he's not syncopated enough...lack of syncopated leaves me constipated

  • Maybe you just need more fiber in your diet.

  • excellent and he seems very relaxed about it all. the drummer in my band isn't so bad either

  • thats definitely gotta be one of the most original solos ive heard

  • He's not in front of an audance , as good or better then his Dad and I never thought I would say that about anyone . Y'all think he would do well @ SXSW ?

  • sadhouse (why so sad?)

I'm not sure what you mean? Do you mean you're reserving a general opinion until you see him play in front of an audience? Or something else? I'll try to post video of him playing live. He usually does a 10-15 minute solo that's as good or better than this warm-up. Better yet if you're in the So Cal area check him out live at the Baked Potato on Jan 9. 9:00.

Yes I think he'd do great at SXSW. Got any hook-ups for a booking?

    Thanks for the comment-Rock on!

  • No just the adrenaline rush of an audience he'd do even better,I was responding to another saying Almost as good as his Dad , sadhouse was the name of our jam house noted for being raided, this is Texas.Lanier Grieg is calling agents, should use the drum company he promotes,as SXSW is packed with Musicians from all over!It is a Networking wonderland for Musicians.

  • good job almost as good as his dad.

  • Great solo Kofi! Makes me wanna get a new kit.Was married to a good drummer who gave me a blue oyster shell Luwig. but it sounned to sixties.need something with a modern sound.keep up the great work! been visiting your page.

  • I love his playing. He's got incredible control. His Nanigo groove in the solo on the Abstact Logic cd is hands down the best solo I've ever heard! I believe the tune is called Elephants wrestling. Check it out!

  • Whoops. The amazing drum solo on the Abstract Logic cd is called Put the Shoe on the other Foot. Kofi's my new favorite drummer.

  • very nice - but I like ''Another Drum solo'' better...has a better voice.
