Can't wait to get it. Much more interested to see how N900 works with actual release fw, thought do you have the final beta tester fw that was released couple of days ago?
the firmware released was official production version. I just flashed it and made a video. check it out. will report on the changes after giving it a good look.
Its hard to see past that if it is supposed to compete with other phones that has capacitive touchscreens. Other than that, this phone IS really interesting! Lets just hope they come out with a new version with a different method of touchinput..
Btw. since this phone is based on linux, and has a terminal ready to go, maybe it would be cool to see how it performs normal tasks with the CPU loaded to the max by spamming "/dev/null" using terminal?
What? The resistive touchscreen on the N900 is as sensitive and responsive as any capacitive screen.. if you read more about the N900 you will see that the resistive screen that the N900 has awesome and not like any other resistive screen..
Arh, if thats the case then its awesome that someone finally figured out how to get a resistive screen to work! :) But my own preference would probably be capasitive anyway, just because I like to just touch and not push down as much. I dont care as much for the ability to use a stylus for writing, so thats not really a big enough push.
I have a question nobodys anwers before and it´s very simple. Does the N900 support rSAP bluetooth profile? I will receive it next week (I hope) and I need to know it. I actually have the HTC Hero and I can´t connect it to the vw premium bluetooth and that´s a terrible headache.
rSAP is Remote SIM Access Profile. This protocol allows BlueTooth devices to "Borrow" the identity of your mobile phone and let the phone to go on sleep mode while that BT device makes calls on its behalf...for instance Mercedes-Benz BlueTooth Cradle SAP V3 does just that using its own system including the areal antenna (way better signal than your cell phone)...it pretty much integrates the phone with the system...JVC and other deck player support this too.
@tiguanito as you most already have noticed N900 DESN't support RSAP. This is the biggest drawback the phone has. And nobody from Nokia cares about this.
@hiiragizawa You don't need to open a separate IM application, IM functionality is totally built in to the contacts system. (although you do have to install AIM, Yahoo, MSN support as its not installed by default, but its a few clicks away)
The UI was not unresponsive. I found it hard to shoot the video with one hand and work with the other. Pressing the N900 was sliding it back. I am planning on putting up another video tonight with more apps suggested by the comments made here. stay tuned. :)
Running web pages does not show anything. I give you the youtube and music player, but other than that, other phones like the Palm Pre can do this as well.
Try running the music player, some games, load the camera app, youtube and other taxing applications.
I was trying to show a possible scenario in the video. loading the camera app, play games, surfing and watching you-tube at the same time sounds whacky. who would do that? I will try it out and post another video shortly.
That would be great! I know it sounds odd, but these type of programs will tax the system and truly show the limits of the device.
Web (Running Flash) , Camera, Music is normal for me. Throwing a game in there is just to see if it chokes.
One more thing to throw in, when running these apps, can you then switch to portrait to bring up the phone app. I wonder if the dialer becomes sluggish or unresponsive when under load.
Not bad! With more optimization from Nokia and there will be no more of that non-responding taps on the screen.. I can't wait till my N900 arrives!!!!
u should open games or apps not web pages apps use more power

Dude, 6 different open webpages are far from 6 different applications. This means only 1 application, the web browser.
bounty112 2 years ago
you're right. btw, 6 apps was not claimed in the video. take a look at the follow-up video on my channnel that shows 12 apps.

Correction: 6 instances of one application.

hmm.. don't know what rSAP is :) My old Motorola HT3000 connects without complaining.

Is it possible to:
1. Open a music player, a web browser with reasonable images and an integrated IM like trillian.
2. Make a miss call/call to the phone. See how fast it responses.
Thanks. :)

nice, even with overloading it still manages to play the flash vid smoothly

It seems that in this vid either the UI was unresponsive or the screen was missing a lot of presses.
Can you elaborate on your experience with the screen.

Multicores are coming to mobiles. For a single core mobile computer that was going pretty well.
My minilaptop cannot even run a single Youtube video properly, not to mention other programs at the same time...
Nokia officially announced last tuesday that N900 is being shipped. I can´t wait :D
