This book is no masterwork however since it's among the first of its kind we should not expect it to be anything approaching brilliant.

Tens of thousands was more like it. The other deaths were because of starvation which, while the fault of the Soviet government's policies, is not to be equated "murder". The Soviets did not intend for such to happen.
And why would they? Ukraine's culture was supported by the Soviet Union until then. It was purely by flawed economic strategy that they died, not genocide.

The post-March, 1945 Western Allied war crimes were no longer accurately documented, but their starvation policy was as lethal as Soviet mass raping. The Soviet policy of occupation was cruel, but also chaotic. Some mercy from Soviet individual generals was still shown (partially to win over Germans for Marxism-Leninism though). Millions died by anti-civilian bombings and post-war Morgenthau Plan.

Over 7 million German civilians were massacred between 1939 and 1950, more than 4 million after the war. Not even including the starvation victims in Western Occupatione Zones 1945-47 due to Morgenthau Plan of Henry Morgenthau Jr., a genocidal plan abandoned fortunately by Harry Truman in 1947 on advice of Herbert Hoover (a great President until 1932). Seven million German civilians were massacred on purpose, by Soviets and British terror bombing. Allied war crimes were never punished.

The purpose of the bombing of Dresden was to massacre as many civilians as possible in order to instill in the German people a holy terror and fear towards the victorious Allies. This was supposed to break German morale. Instead, the crime of Dresden and other terror bombing only made moderate Germans into fanatical pro-Nazi soldiers. This happened also due to Soviet war crimes at the eastern front. One has to remember, that only a minority of Germans were Nazis,.

First, it is only an estimate. Secondly, it includes all who died. Including pro-Axis volunteers, pro-Axis local police, local Anti-Communists (especially in Ukraine and Baltic states), and includes victims made by Stalin's brutal evacuation and later scorched earth policy. You do not want to see these historical truths? WW2 history was and remains the basis of entire regimes and continents' political ideologies. So history is upheld accordingly. And criticism is sometimes punished with prison.

Without Dresden, a German soldier on the Eastern front stayed unwashed in his dirty uniform which he also slept in and he kept eating monotonous field rations, often cold; this shortened the war and saved the lives of ALLIED soldiers.

@SatchmoSings I respectfully disagree. First, I doubt that a german soldier could just leave his position and go for a bath, a clean uniform and a nap in Dresden. Second, dumping those bombs on the soldier himself (or Berlin) rather than his home-made schnitzel would have saved more allied lives. The true reason for destruction of Dresden, in my opinion, was to demonstrate the Russians the power of US/UK air force. The 100,000 burnt women and children were victims of psychological warfare.

@IustitiaPax I have been reading the reviews of "After the Reich" on Amazon, both pro and con along with the comments posted regarding these reviews.
This book is no masterwork however since it's among the first of its kind we should not expect it to be anything approaching brilliant.
Still, as we move away from the war (with those who lived it dying off) I do expect to see more books portraying German "victimization" and I do use that word most loosely.

Alfred de Zayas is a UN high commissioner and outstanding judge and historian. After WW1, Allies did not keep up the blockade as strictly, like until 1947. Discussion is over, you read books please.

Actually, it wasn't payback - the Communists did this to the White Russians, Poles, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Ukrainians etc. Per Viktor Suvorov, in his book "Chief Culprit: Stalin's Grand Design to Start WWII" said that Stalin had scheduled the Soviet attack on Germany for July 15, 1941. The Germans figured out what was planned for them and attacked on June 22, 1941 - destroying Stalin's plan to conquer Europe. Youtube "Katyn Forest Massacre" to see what Stalin did to Polish POWs.

There are movements in Germany that work for compenstation/restoration of this lost property/land and for many years there were "nostalgia tours" of land in Poland and The USSR where people would go back to visit their old homes, towns and property.
