Thats a very simplified explanation. It goes deeper than Africa being capitalist. You have to have a functioning government. Africa has a horrible history of Colonialism to deal with. South Africa is a successful capitalistic country. Most gains in standard of living are brought by free markets and capitalism not fairy tales of utopia (Marxism). How did the millions of Indian and Chinese people get out of poverty? There is no debate, free markets have won.

Cuba is a wretchedly poor third world nation.(Living standards fell apart after USSR) Dollars, Tourism and cheap Chavez oil keep them alive.True there are worse places to live (Haiti) but just think of the potential that's been wasted by sticking to failed economic theory and authoritarianism. Cubans have little goods, no new vehicles very limited electricity not a happy place to live.
You don't have to have a U.S. style unequal economic system. But free markets and true democracy are important not only to living standards but basic human rights. that is true only on the most general levels. its more like this: Democrats = regulated capitalism, Republicans = slightly less regulated capitalism. Both parties essentially support government-regulated capitalism. But describing the Democratic party as a socialist party is incorrect. None of the Democrats I know are socialists. In fact, there is only ONE openly socialist member of the US Congress, Bernie Sanders (he's from Vermont, no surprise there)

Thats a very simplified explanation. It goes deeper than Africa being capitalist. You have to have a functioning government. Africa has a horrible history of Colonialism to deal with. South Africa is a successful capitalistic country. Most gains in standard of living are brought by free markets and capitalism not fairy tales of utopia (Marxism). How did the millions of Indian and Chinese people get out of poverty? There is no debate, free markets have won.

Che was a socialist dictator, no better than Castro, Pinochet or Bush. He murdered thousands. He killed one of his own soldiers merely for listening to the Rolling Stones. His socialism failed, and deepened poverty. We need free speech, civil liberties, property rights, lower taxes and free markets, Not more government control. Not socialistic dictatorship.
