  • hi jack black. iloveyou

  • If you turn the LOW to 12 o clock, the treble all the way, and the gain to the tick mark just to the right of the 12 o clock position; you'll get the early metallica "clean" setting

  • Are you jack black?

  • Thank you for such a thorough and well played demo. Must check out your other videos. Thanks again.

  • I swear this guy is Jack Black

  • Just a bit of advice. On every Overdrive video, you should do a snippet of what the pedal sounds pushiing the amp on a mild gain setting. Alot of players do this, and would love to hear that.

  • Thank you, Jack Black. <3

  • props to war pigs

  • props to the intro song

  • sweet sound!

  • Phil X sold me on this pedal. Its hard to find a better od for less than $100...and this is only $50

  • thumbs up for the alligator boots!

  • alligator boots!

  • Love that Sabbath moment at 2:51

  • I saw Duke Robillard (who is a straight ahead blues master) last week and he had 2 Bad Monkeys on his pedalboard!! He sounded great.

  • Do you show your face in anyone of your 780+ videos?

  • isnt that just an SG not a les paul? Unless it were a double cutaway LP but it look like an sg....

  • @NeutralSnap Early models of the SG were les pauls.

  • @NeutralSnap someone needs to brush up on their Gibson history (shakes head dissaprovingly) :)

  • @krispatel1 hah sorry, im not a huge fan of SG's (no offense to those who use em, their great guitars, just not my type) so i dont know much bout em

  • @NeutralSnap Its a long story man... When gibson start making the Sg's(back in the 60s) the had way too much truss rod covers with the "les paul" name on them. so they put the "les paul" truss rod covers on the sg's! awesome isnt it? now the les paul truss rod labeled sg models are collectable and cant be found easily! AND THAT WAS A HISTORY LESSON. yeah!

  • @Des60s um no? les pauls went very good so they made 'sg's' in the les pauls place as an upgrade to the les paul and they didnt make any new les pauls for a while and then les paul(the guy) was like awww hell no take my name off that shit, since he had nothing to do with the sg, so they decided to call it Solid Guitar and since there were no more les pauls(in the sg shape) being made, they started to make REAL les pauls after that,,,i think u have more studyin to do-__-

  • @billyanhiers seriously man? i think ur wrong but in any way. Gibson rules up our ass :P <3

  • @billyanhiers The SG was originally called a les paul....

  • @destroysubgenres yea, when les pauls started production in the 50s they were doin great, and then for somereason they started to go outta style i guess:P the in1960-61 they made a new les paul(esentially the les paul 2)which sold like crazy, but les paul himself didnt want his name on the new "lespauls"(sgs) because he had nothing to do with the design, so he said "take meh name off that devil guitar" so they re-named the "les pauls" into sg (solid guitar)then they started making les pauls agai

  • If I see another "Is this Jack Black?" comment on a gearmanndude clip, I'm going to be forced to drown my sorrows with a bottle of Jack Daniels Black label, and never watch another pedal clip ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "The owl strap is an owl strap"

    Well, thank you Captain Obvious!

  • and lastly , played by gearmandude from germany

  • i never gave credit to this pedal... until i saw Gary moore using it. If you doubt you can see it in "one night in dublin - a tribute to phill lynott" moments before the start of cowboy song, have a pretty close.

  • the coolest thing about this pedal is it gives you a choice of balanced (low impedance) output as well as regular high impedance that all other OD/distortion pedals have.

This means you can plug directly into the board from the balanced input and skip carrying an amp altogether if you have a sitch where everyone's going through the PA. I use when playing with DJs ;)

  • you sound like jack black!

  • I use this pedal with super and pro reverb Fender amps. Great bottom end and natural distortion. I beef it up for more sustain by adding a TS9 to it with just enough gain to make it sustain more. Killer sound with these amps. The Monkey is midrangey so turn up the bass and treble to match it and there's a great sound waiting for you. Oh, I use this set up with a Tokai Les Paul. It has a warm tone just like my 87 Paul.

  • Dig the owl strap

  • it sounds like good monkey..

  • War Pigs!

  • What is Jack black doing hosting a video?!

  • wtf is a custom shop sg les paul? ahaahhaha

  • @Vasckin when the sg was now introduced it was known as the sg les paul. the plate between the neck pickup and neck had Les Paul written on it. what he is using is a Gibson Custom reissue of the sg les paul.

  • @gibsonlespaul1320 thanks for the info looks like i was the douchbag

  • Dear gearmandude. Like many people, I'm feeling the pinch, but I could really use an affordable OD pedal. Which would you pick a Bad Monkey or a GFS Greenie? I'm leaning towards the Greenie, but would appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

  • 0:43 - 0:47 = Such a cheeky laugh.

  • wonder how many Jack Black comments you got?!

  • Phil X!

  • mm hm

  • Owls, Monkeys, Jaguars.

  • @MegaFenderstrat oh my

  • @MegaFenderstrat

    Oh my?

  • @MegaFenderstrat and snake shoes as well.. =)

  • @MegaFenderstrat Oh My!

  • @MegaFenderstrat

    Oh my.

  • the strap costs more than the pedal. i have 2

  • @goodchaun Is it jeff tweedy's signature strap? thats what it looks like and those things are like 80 bucks

  • scott pilgrim used one in the flim

  • Tell me why, why ever a Les Paul, or a Gibson....but hey....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING A *I SHOW YOU HOW I PLAY WITH (THE) BAD MONKEY* - video

Should I tell you something??? You play that very well ;-)

  • Jumping Jack Black, it's a guess!

  • Jack Black plays a SG in school of rock. Just saying... :P

  • Jack Black plays a SG in school of work. Just saying...

  • i have one of these and they are genuinely amazing. Fantastic sound and a wide range of sounds. I agree with you on keeping it underrated. I'm glad i got mine before digitech realises what it's really worth.

  • Lovely Demo but I have one request:

Please do a comparison between BAD MONKEY and Danelectro's TRANSPARENT OVERDRIVE

    Thanks

  • Ha, nice snake skins :D

  • Bad Monkey or Sd-1 ?

  • @SoundMaker43 I'd go for the Bad Monkey, cheaper and Low + High EQ

  • Monkeys???Owls??? Jaguars???Is This a Zoo??

    JK!!!Great Vid btw!

  • @Satyros2os Forgot the snake. :o

  • @TheOriginalInchin Oops....You Are Right!!!

  • NO IT'S BLACK JACK!

  • i always wondered why you were called Germandude... as you aint german...

now i get it and feel stupid. oh how if i'd reread your name so long ago lol.

  • @jakeblandjk47 thanks to this post, i just realized i've been making the same idiot mistake

  • anyone think this would sound good through a peavey delta blues?

  • The bad monkey sounds awesome through a SUNN SL 160... 60w combo. If you own a SUNN amp of any kind ...id recommend trying one out! ...Great for cleaner Hendrix type tones. Jimi initially played through SUNN heads ands cabinets before switching to marshall.

  • Yes good pedal for the money, but honestly you cam spend 30$ more and get a used fulltone fulldrive 2, seriously. Pedals sound like night and day. The FD2 is the best TS808 clone out there. I had a monkey but muddied tone too bad.

  • Would this pedal be used as a booster for solos in an high gain settings? If it's not do you have any suggestion? thank you so much!

  • Luke's Wall at 2:51...

  • "The SG is a Custom shop SG Les Paul"

    whaa

  • @TrippyTro In the late 50's early 60's Les Pauls weren;t selling to Gibson came out with what is now the SG but called it the Les Paul. Les Pals Said i don;t like this guitar take me name off of it. So when they stoped making the Les Paul in the 60's and took his name off of the SG there were no Les Paul guitars. Eric Clapton picked up a late 50's burst and people wanted the LP again so Gibson started making the original Les Paul again

  • @krabymcgee oh cool, thats crazy

  • Bad Monkey is a great pedal at a reasonable price.Even Phil X love it.

  • 0:24 is that a telephone cable??? haha

  • Nope, no sucky. Nice smooth and good with mids, likey likey.

  • if this isnt jack black al shit my pants

  • The lone cat hair on his pedal is why I don't have pets.

  • This pedal ain't sucky. It does a great job boosting a mildly driven amp. Smooth. Nice one, Mr Black. haha..

  • Anyone else think this guy sounds like Jack Black?

  • @paulwes1983

You and about anyone else who's seen a GMD demo...but it's not Jack Black. Eric Whorton is his name.

  • I am impressed. I liked it.

  • i own this pedal and it sucks... its germanndude and its not-so-clean sound what makes it better. DONT BUY

  • @diegojavier13 why does it suck?

  • @theDeadandgone666 i only find this pedal useful to boost a wet signal (kind of what gearmanndude is using it for). Personally i think it lacks on strenght, although it gives you the opportunity to play with the highs and the lows, thats maybe the reason i (may) use it as a boost, nothing more. For a classic Zeppelin or ACDC good overdrive i prefer the OD-3.

  • @diegojavier13 it works great if you use another OD as a boost behind this. I have a danelectro TOD for my clean boost, then the bad monkey for drive...sounds great!

  • @theruley totally agree. As a boost, this pedal works great. Maybe its a taste thing, but the overdriven sound of the pedal, alone, is not in my list of favourites.

  • gearmandude can u do a video on the ibanez jemini distortion pedal

  • @AbandonedMind thanks dude, do i have to buy a new lead for it then? and which lead do you recommend. and bad monkey or grunge?

  • fuck warner music group.... great demo, im still thinking of buying one...

Tell me, am i hesitating or is really as good as you make it sound?

  • @dobby240 Don't forget he's playing a Gibson custom shop guitar through a sweet-assed amp, too, though. It's a great pedal for low dollars-or that "price point" as they say.

  • @Notjustforfreaks allready bought it, its just what i was looking for :P although i do need a new guitar now because my guitars neck is bent from bein sat next to a radiator >_> silly me

  • OK this is gonna sound weird but I don't have my guitar yet and I'm getting one of these but the grunge pedal.... I need a clear description of ow you plug these pedals in... please help.

  • I dont trust an overdrive unless its green. TS9, TS808, GT-OD, and the BAD MONKEY!!!

  • IS THIS JACK BLACK!!

  • @MrPersie242 no

  • @MrPersie242 no hahahahaha, it's that old blonde hair cowboy boot wearing guy, he does TONS of these videos. No direspect. This pedel is sick I've never even heard of it before, it'd sound good with some balls plugged into it, like a boss metal zone. KEEP UP THE VIDS!!!!

  • @MrPersie242

    way to be original

  • The Bad Monkey is my main pedal run into an orange rocker 30 on the dirty channel, just at the point where it's clipping... Bad Monkey cranked... Sounds awesome. Never once let me down.

  • @garmandude, r u jack black? dude ur rockin

  • fuck yeh, black sabbath \m/

  • It's a Jeff Tweedy signature strap from Souldjer in Chicago.

  • I have had this pedal for 2 years, live and in the bedroom....honestly I just can't get away from it,,,,I have tried many things,,,but it just is special pedal that by defination shouldn't sound so good! Great smooth overdrive,,versatile, and you can drive it with a booster or another od pedal and it's great! I can't help it...I LOVE IT!!

  • This pedal sound's pretty good :D
