What a Banger this was - and still is! Pure Hip-Hop; I can almost freebase this off the Tube! Rakim is the illest Brother - talk about fluidity on the mic, and incredible lyricism! He truly is the Ali of Hip-Hop: those who step get knocked the fuck out in the first round.
There is no new school rap, they think they are rappers, but rappers gone long time ago. Some of true rappers wont rhyme now coz they don't want take part in shit . Rap above 2004 is shit school. (Masta Ace album is last known good album i hear,)
@cptdekker: Agree, bro - Rakim is unmatched, incomparable, the jewel in the crown of Hip-Hop...and joints like this, Musical Massacre, Let the Rythm Hit 'Em cannot be fucked with - and as you superbly concluded Rakim Allah is UNFUCKWITHABLE!!! Many may follow but the leader leads.
comin outta the buildin they set me up, sprayed with automatics they wet me up, in a puddle of blood i lay close to the edge.............................i guess i didnt know the ledge. GOD DAM!!!!!!!!!
@shaolin89 yeah Eric was a Brooklyn thug. All of my boys who used to DJ back then used to all say how terrible Eric's scratching was. Large Professor produced a few tracks for Rakim but Eric took production credit himself. Kool G rap tried to speak up and Eric threatened his life. That's when Kool G rap bounced to Arizona. I saw Eric B one time around 88-89 in Harlem in a gas station in a rented car with some shady dudes. We quickly realized Eric was there to cop some coke.
@CanvassBlack Harlem was the place back then for wholesale drugs. Eric would usually drive his Rolls Royce but the rented car was used so he wouldnt draw attention. He was really mad that we were staring at him and one of his boys looked like he wanted to shoot us but Harlem was our turf. Eric's from Brooklyn and Rakim is from Long Island. Check out the DVD on the real 50 cent. He was a small dude with a big gun from Brooklyn who used to rob people. He's in the picture in the Paid in Full album
@deenage That's back when a lot of rappers didn't have prison fantasies of getting fucked up the ass. That pants down shit is how a bitch in jail "presents" himself to any bucks interested.
@wcorowitz - SO TRU. ive almost stopped going to see hiphop shows becuz of that shit. buncha yes-men trying to yell over each other! i miss the good old days.
fucking dope...damn, i can't believe this track is that old!! time flies, no doubt. the 90's, ain't nothin' like it...THE REALEST HIP HOP came out then...
@bigghost27 yep, out here in Cali back then, cats rocked San Jose Sharks gear and White Sox shit..lol. good times...oh yeah, Starter gear was the shit, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's because dude really only was a street muscle sorta speak. According to some, dude couldn't even DJ like that. So that's prolly why he just stood there without spinning or anything. But again i'm not 100% sure that i'm speaking facts here.
