  • This is so bad its good....

  • I saw this when I was eleven. I got home... and that's when I heard Mt. St. Helens had erupted. Weird.

  • I have yet to see a truly good volcano movie. Dante's Peak was about as close as they come, but even that was filled with moments beyond absurdity (e.g. rubber tires successfully navigating a field of lava without melting, water turning to acid, Pierce Brosnan being chased by cave-ins until the moment he activated the tracking device, etc.) Is it really that hard to make a volcano film that stays within the bounds of what really happens? They're pretty terrifying things.

  • If I saw the volcano erupt like that, I'd shit my pants.

  • i like the part when the water broke into the building

  • Scenes that are so bad...they're good!

  • Ironic, Irwin Allen expected this film to dethrone Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes Back. The film's box office wasn't just hurt by having to compete with Indiana Jones and Star Wars, which were light years ahead of it in terms of special effects, but it was still playing when the 1980 Mt. St. Helan's eruption occured a

  • At 2:17, Jacqueline Bisset wants to laugh, so she hides and turns her face. Hilarious.

  • Nice job on the video looks good. When you have time come visit my channel!

  • This is probably the worst movie I have ever seen.

  • I didn't know this entertaining film was on DVD. Better than Beyond the Poseidon Adventure

  • Get to da choppah!!!

  • I remember watching this movie with my dad when I was a child. I remember bits and pieces, and it was the first movie that actually got me into loving disaster movies.

  • That lab went totally flaccid, the fell over entirely.

  • That was hilariously bad. :D

  • When the guy fell off I couldn't stop laughing.

  • LOL... I've seen better VFX in Twilight Zone or Lost in Space just 20 years before this!!! and on TV!!! But let's face it: this one is truly enjoyable.

  • 01:39 erectile disfunction much?

  • My favorite 2 moments: Veronica Hamell staring at herself in the mirror as "time runs out" or the villagers chasing a chicken as the island blows up. How did the Oscars miss this???

  • You'd like Steve McQueen would grip the joystick like he was flying the helicopter rather than having such light contact . . .

  • i use to watch this movie and it was one of my favroite disater movies i have seen in my childhood you uploaded the movie thank you for it i heard from my friends and family and if i remember from watching the vhs verson and the dvd verson that warner brothers did not put the whole movie on dvd that is right isn't it.

  • I used to think this was the worst disaster film ever until the sci-fi network started making disaster films with crappy CGI effects, then this ended up looking pretty good.

  • So bad it's good. Right? I mean, am I right? Little help here?

  • how did water get there??? sunami??

  • Was Irwin Allen really Michael Bay's father?

The similarities between their films is shocking! ;)

  • Reunion of the Towering Inferno stars. Or was this before??? Hysterical. But James Franciscus was gorgeous.

  • @Morgainell no this was in 1980. steve mcqueen was also supposed to be in this movie but he turned it down.

  • oh thanks, smart Steve McQueen. Towering Inferno, is posted on YouTube and is good to me even though it is many years later.

  • @DisasterFlicks McQueen died that year from lung cancer.

  • @DisasterFlicks

With the Swarm and When Time Ran Out I have a feeling Irwin Allen spent his entire budget on ensuring that even bit parts were played by big stars and forgot about the special effects and most importantally hiring someone talented to WRITE THE SCRIPT

  • @Morgainell james was very handsome, but sadly only had 4 more years to live!

i`m curious which role steve mcqueen was to play, but i`m guessing the character was written out.

this movie was a dud, the last throttle of the disaster cycle, it rehashed every old chestnut situation, character and situation and wasted a star cast, a far cry from the earlier entries.

  • @jackscal1 , The funny thing , is apparently there is a Extended edition!!! I love campy movies though, I could spend a whole day watching them, they are just so much fun. Sad about James though, beautiful man. a least we have him captured on film.

  • @Morgainell i also love campy, bad movies, especialy bad films that should be good but fail. here is a sar cast, a budgit and a sequel of sorts to one of the biggest films of the seventies, all this echos the exorcist 2, which i love for its awfulness!!!!

    Yeah, thanks to Franciscus!

Man, you figure the scientist guys would have cleared out right after 0:15.

    Alas, poor John Considine.

  • When Ideas Run Out.. What a great film. Look at them Visuals.

  • This film is great granted the fx are very dated in places but it fucking kicks ass compared to the likes of 2012 and shite like that!

  • I never seen the movie yet, it looks good but the trailer was awful.

  • Some of the effects are pretty good...

  • No matter what you say, even this naivity is great. Great actors! These movies are classics, compare to the todays all graphics junk

  • Actually City on Fire is the worse disaster movie ever. And yup...it's a Canadian movie of course.

  • James Franciscus? The Finder of Lost Loves? (Couldn't resist)

  • You mean Tony Franciosa.

  • This need's rifftrax NOW!

  • What was Newman doing starring in this no-brainer?

  • He was still under contract to Irwin Allen so he did this movie to void his contract. It's the only movie he ever regretted making.

  • Newman's face in this! He just can't believe he's starring in such a piece of junk. The Hustler, Somebody up there likes me, Hud, Butch Cassidy, Paris Blues... and...uh... um... oh yeah! When Time Ran Out! But he was also in a film with Lee Marvin that was appalling! I think it was called Pocket Money or something. Newman was a truly great actor though... Up there with Brando! Thanks for replying Mr D! :)

  • I'll bet he came out with his own line of salad dressings so that financial circumstances could never force him to be in another such movie!

  • @DisasterFlicks WRONG....he regretted the SILVER CHALICE...

  • yes could you put the whole movie on. you put on movies, with the old great actors, just look at this cast. they could not make a movie today with actors like these.

  • can someone download the whole movie

  • i will be uploading the entire movie soon :)

  • I have a question:

I own the "old" VHS and I think it has more scenes that this. I have also heard that WB did not put the whole movie on the DVD, is that true?

  • Yes it is. I have both the DVD and VHS. The DVD version is only 109 minutes long as opposed to the 144 minute VHS version. Very lazy on Warner Brothers part. Very disappointing.

  • I just love the scene of the guy falling sideways into the stock footage of a volcano erupting. And to think Irwin Allen used $20 million to make this, and all we get is stock footage.

  • He probably blew all the money on the cast and Bill Holden's booze.

  • ah yes i used to watch this over and over again lol

it s with that guy from airwolf

  • Wow I didn't know about this one. Thanks for posting it.

  • This movie gave me nightmares when I was a kid, but watching it now I just can't help but laugh!

  • Paul says "The airs gonna be rough over the lava" Mr. smarty pants says "I'll be alright" then the moment we've all been waiting for.... "AHHHHHHH"

  • are there really, honestly any observatories like that over ACTIVE VOLCANOES!!!??

  • god this brings back memories, jacqueline bissett oh yeah

  • Looks acceptable to me....of course it looks out of date if you compare with today's CGI.

  • Except it looks absolutely nothing like an actual volcano.

  • Show the chopper crash where everyone tries to get off the island.

  • ok i'll post it as soon as I can.

  • I kind of like this one, as it is a compilation of all Allen's earlier disaster fliks, with a trashy soap type subplot thrown in (Veronica Hamel and James Franciscus). The helicopter crash scene in the Swarm, I thought was better than the one in this movie though .Maybe the "Devil at 4 oclock" was better.

  • I get the feeling that the horse ranch footage was shot somewhere in United States. It defianetly doesn't fit together with the tropical locations seen elsewhere on the film.

  • at :16 look at those real good effects.

When Time Ran Out!!! NO When Ideas Ran Out!! Irwin Allen produced two great flics Poseidon and Inferno, BUT, Beyond the Poseidon, When Time Ran Out, The Swarm, were no good. Irwin wanted to continue the diasters from the 70's into the 80's and this is what WE all get.

  • Poor Alex Karras.

  • 5:17: Wow, he got tossed to the volcano rather than falling off the chopper. lol.

  • Yeah. he falls sideways into a volcano that looks as if it were about 3 miles away lol
