  • That's very good. You sound like a REAL professional in some parts, know what I mean? Keep going; the viola is a great sounding instrument and anybody who plays it perfectly sounds amazing.

  • that was very nice actually and I can only imagine how much better you have gotten since this video was posted. I'm looking forward to purchasing my Gliga Gama and it was wonderfull to hear such lovely music coming from one. Take care.

  • I used to play the viola quite a bit, but I haven't played in years now. I'm thinking about going out and buying one just to try it out again. You're doing really good, a few off notes of course, but even the best do that on occasion.

    /watch?v=wVcB_ViHq6Y

  • pretty well played although a better quality instrument and less bounce play would make it an excellent sound...and by the way your 4th finger G is wonderfundal!!!

  • That is super good! Nice vid I lov dat piece:)

  • wow! you are really good for someone who has not benn playing for a while:-)

  • wow really nice that is sooooooo good when you grow up you should be a famous viola player im in 6th grade and i wish i could play like you awesome job!

  • hey, i am playing the viola, too!

nice to see that i´m not the only one ; )

you´re good and you have a good left hand.

    Keep playing

P.S.: maybe you can practise playing more quiet because if you do (in the video), your viola is wagging (can i say that?) because of your vibrato.

    But GOOD JOB : )

  • OKay so i play viola im in 7th grade the shaking of the hand on fingerbored is really hard 4 me any tips??

  • YOu play so good!

  • i found your playing well but the song perhapse boring

  • it sounds beautiful. i can't even play like that. i like the song choice too.

  • great

  • VIOLA IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! Congratulations!

  • even if some notes are out of tune, it's beautiful!!! Your viola has a wonderful sound !! What kind of Gliga Gama is it ? (professional ?)

  • Hi Selma, thanks ever so much! I think my viola is the Gama 2, I bought it from elidatrading here in the UK - it was only about £425 at the time (about three years ago). I adore it :-)

  • Nicely done. Like the smile at the end. Was thinking of ordering a violin to have some fun but now I'm thinking maybe the viola.

  • Thank you so much! The viola is great fun, definitely try it out :-) So many people play the violin but if you play the viola you're special and get more opportunities to join string groups and orchestras!

  • wicked i play viola too well done Toni !!!

  • Thanks Honorkemp! :-) xx

  • I play the viola , you very better than me -

    played VERY nicely

  • I love the Viola!!!! I am a violist myself and I have been playing since 5th grade so for about 7 years and I originally played the cello but i switched and then I wanted to play Violin cuz everyone else was, but truth be told, I never regret for one second deciding to play the viola!!!!!

  • may i ask what sise your viola is ? i am a violinist but i am thinking about learnig the viola and i here they com in like a gazillian sises and theres no official full sise, but this one look right... just curious

  • Hi :-) It's a 15" viola, but you might like to try 15.5" as well - play the largest size you can manage, because the larger, the nicer the sound! have fun xx

  • thanks ! :D that helped ... and i like your playing.

  • I think that was not too bad at all, I used to play bass guitar very well, but I am loking at either playing viola or violin - what would be a natural progression? Great post by the way.

  • your vibrato and grace notes make me want to cry it's so beautiful

  • That is really lovely of you, thank you so much xx

  • You sounded really food, don't worry about what you got wrong. Do you really think the Gama is worth getting? I've passed my grade 5 and I'm 17 and I would like to get my own viola but I just can't choose !!! Anyway, I thought it sounded lovely.

  • i play the viola too and i think this is great!im only going into 7th grade so im not THAT good, but this inspires me.

  • Thank you, that's very kind of you! Good luck with your studies, and enjoy playing! :-) xx

  • viola takes very particular technique. something that def doesnt happen overnight. this was pretty good....for a violin player that is. lol jk. im a violist. and i love it.

  • i played this at my concert. the solo part.

:) your good. oh, and i'm 12 too.

and i'm in the advanced orchestra. <3

    haha, and asian. @_@

  • the worst intonation I have never heard! poor vivaldi...

  • I know, I'd been playing viola for about a month when I made this video! Terrible isn't it?

  • that is very rude id say

  • You stupid sod. She has said that she's a beginner! What a pathetic comment to make about somebody who's learning an instrument. If you were a genuine musician, you wouldn't criticise a learner. Crawl back into your cupboard.

  • some ppl r lucky they get to play when they r in like 4 or 5 grade im playing next year nd im going to 7 grade next year btw im gonna play violin

  • to go from the violin to the viola is a HUGE step girl- but u did it! I've been playing the viola for about 5 years so u sound really good and ur vibrato is really good

  • wow that sounded really good! i play viola in my highschool orchestra and i love it :], i love the darker deeper rich sound that it has vs the violin

  • you did great! i play the viola and i am in the ninth grade. i started playing when i was in the fifth grade and i LOVE it! i actually made first chair in all-county w00t but anyways...can you give me some tips on vibrato cuz i cant get it and it is very annoying.

  • Hm... made first chair all county and you can't vibrato?

  • Im 12 and I play viola too, I hope to be as good as you:)

  • omg!! im 12 and i also play viola i've been playing since 3rd grade and i love it.

  • I'm 16 and I start taking viola lessons next Thursday. I have no idea how to read music or anything. How long do you think it would take for me to be able to play like that?

  • I really don't know honey - I could already read music and I played the violin before I moved to the viola. I bet you could do it in a couple of years though, if you work hard at it. Good luck! Don't be discouraged if you struggle at the beginning, you'll soon get loads better and hopefully you'll absolutely love it :-) Let me know how you get on!

  • well........ reading the music gets easier as you go maby in a year youll sound great maby 2 more years youll sound amazing and then you can choose if you love playing to to a school where you can learn more and become a pro

  • Your really good!! I also play the viola!!!

  • Thank you for your kind comment! Violas are great, hope you love playing! :-) xx

  • Can someone tell me what the difference is between a viola and a violin?

  • A viola is larger and wider than a violin, and it has a deeper sound. The strings are tuned to C, G, D and A whereas a violin's strings are tuned to G, D, A and E.

    Hope that helps :-)

  • hmm then i think i like the sound of a viola better :D i love deep sounds. Wonderfully played btw

  • Thank you very much, that's very kind of you :-) xx

  • omg! i play the viola! ur very good!

  • don't slag me off. Are you kidding me? I cant even play that.

  • Hi,ilearned this piece in two hours,wathing you,nice piece.Keep going.

  • i hope your surgery turned out great and keep up the good work : )

  • nice vibrato ;-)

  • Wow! i play the Viola at my school orchestra, and it's really fun, but I was wondering, whats the name of that song? Anyway that was absolutely beautiful! (Believe me, my bowing is so much worse than yours, don't feel bad!)

  • Hi, thanks so much for being so kind about my playing :-) The piece is the third movement of Vivaldi's Sonata No. 5 for Cello, transcribed for viola.

  • Great job and great viola 5/5

  • You totally inspired me. I'm about to start playing viola in the next week or so purely because I've always wanted to. I played the saxophone for several years but this will be my first venture to the strings. I'm glad I came across your video. I think you're pretty good and the song is really pretty. :)

  • I play viola too! Dont be too hard on yourself that was amazing!!

  • Thanks! That is very kind of you! :-)

  • That was beautiful!

  • Thank you for your kind comment Will! :-)

  • Are you still playing this year? I would like to hear you play a new song since you've improved. :)

  • No I havent been able to play for months, I have a spinal condition which makes it too painful to hold the instrument up for any length of time. Hoping to return to it after surgery next month though :-)

  • I'm sorry to hear of your condition. I hope the surgery next month goes well and that you will be able to play again. :) Good luck!

  • wow

  • Nice! You bow gets un-straight, probably because you move your entire arm at times. Otherwise, I think your playing is very nice. :)

Why is everyone saying how late they're starting vibrato...? Maybe my teacher was rushing me, but I was taught as soon as I started learning from him. @_@

  • I play the viola but ill prob. nvr be as good as you

  • you have beautiful hands and they look just perfect for the violin/viola which ever you major

  • Hallo! I am a violist and I think it's not so bad! You should only clean your intonation in some passages, your bowing technique is good.

You are so lucky because you plays the Queen of Instruments(XD) and if you give her your time and your passion, she gives you her fantastic sound. Because I say you to resist and don't give up studying!!=) Marino Ps. Sorry for my English but I am Italian!

  • Really well done! Gliga are fantastic i play Violin and have a Gliga and i always get people telling me how good my instrument looks and sounds:)

    Great work, keep it up!

  • ur vabrato is really good

i want this sheet music whats it called

  • i play the viola also! you played good also. also, i no this is besides the point... but does anyone no where i can find jonas brothers music for the viola??? if u no where plz reply! great job!

  • Your not bad, im 12 and im doing my grade 5.

i know its a bit late to start doing vibrato but im still only young, but i am habing trouble

you should try to make a video, showing people how to do vibrato. any tips for me?

    your viola sounds incredible!

    ' Xx.

  • Your not bad, im 12, and im doing my grade 5 soon, and im just learing to do vibrato, and i am stuck!

maybe you should make a video showing us how to do viola? any tips?

    your viola sounds incredible!

    ' Xx.

  • u should make a video of u teaching us how to play the viola

  • Your viola sounds very nice. I got a Gliga violin a while back from Elida. The Gliga instruments are great value and have a nice mellow sound - or at least mine would have if it wasn't for the incompetent beginner stuck on the end of it, LOL.

How's the progress coming? Why not post another vid of you playing?

  • i would love to have this sheet of musik...

    it sounds wonderful!

  • PLEASE what ever you do , DO NOT QUITE,

I am 46 and regret everyday i did not contenue

  • i think you did good. i play the viola myself

  • Wow. You're better than me, and I've been playing five years now. I can't get my vibrato right. Ever. =/ But great job!

  • wow! i just started playing the viola a week ago and next school year imgoing to bethe only viola player!! your truely more amazingthan me lol. 5 stars bravo!!!

  • great job, could you email the sheet music.

  • very nice i myself play viola

  • Okay, I am no Viola Player, but I play Violin, I am at Grade 5 now, but that has nothing to do with it.

Your viola has a great hollow tone as it sings the nots out.

The only problem is your bowing hun, you are playing it good, but it's slopping all over between the bridge and fingerboard, and I bet it gets on your nerves.

Bow it next to the bridge and keep your elbow tucked in, it may hurt at the start but its worth it! if you listen to me, you won't go far wrong Okay. please write back, tnx

  • Hi, thanks for your comments :) I hadn't been playing the viola long when I made this video last year, but I've been working on my bowing as lots of people pointed out this problem to me. Hopefully I am a bit better now, though I can't play the viola at all at the moment as I have a problem with my back. I'm looking forward to getting back to it though! Cheers xxxx

  • That's a really pretty sounding viola you've got there. Except for a few bad bowings and intonation problems, you did pretty darn well.

  • That's kind of you, thanks for your comment :) I've been working on my bowing and intonation and stuff, and I think I'm a bit better now though i still have a lot to learn. Cheers xx

  • I think you should post up some more videos of yourself playing. You've got a lot of talent and potential. Keep at it. Cheers to you too.

  • WOW?

  • Heh, is that WOW YOU SUCK? I have a long way to go, I can handle it :)

  • nice job. if you improve your posture by holding up the viola so that it is parallel to the floor, and bow more with your elbow and wrist so that your bowing isn't crooked, your sound will greatly improve.

  • What size is your viola? (Mine is 16.5")

  • In my opinoin, the best peoce ever concieved for the viola was telemanns viola concerto in g major, the second movment, a truley marvelous peice.

  • i've been playing for 4 years now but i must tell you before it gets into habit because it happened to me, watch your bowing it should be straight out and not curving toward your body just some constructive critisim

  • this is really pretty i have been playing the viola since i was 8 or 9 and now im 15.

its a beatiful instrument and i just love it and by the way im in book 5 suzuki is this peice in any of the suzuki books?

  • That sounds great! I've just started learning viola and I'm loving it! It's a beautiful instrument.

  • Okay, call me stupid...but isn't it hard to play without any frets?

Like how do you know which is which note!?

  • a lot of its ear and relative spots that you learn and then it becomes second nature.

  • muscle memory

  • You did an outstanding job! I too play the viola, I'm 16 now and have been playing since i was 11. I love it!

  • I've been playing viola for four years, and I think you're very good. A few out-of-tune notes, but overall you were quite good. That's a very nice viola you have, by the way.

  • The viola are biutiful

  • whats the name of the peice you are playin i would like to get it to learn please??

your great by the way !!

  • Thank you so much for your kind comment! The piece is the third movement of Sonata No.5 for cello by Vivaldi, you can get a transcription of his 6 Cello Sonatas for viola that is published by the International Music Company. Enjoy!

  • ive been playing the viola for... 3 weeks as of today! eeerrrmm lookin forward i guess for 3rd position?(me) apparently im developing vebrato very quickly.

that was very good, by the way. and im Starting to get to your standard of bowing, its hard when you have been on a 3/4 size violin going to a 15.5" viola! o well. very good playing!

  • iv been playing viola since aguest

  • thats really good. ive been playing the viola since september and now im just doing my gold music metal. but i am playing platinum and grade 5 pieces.. ur really good.

  • good job!! you were excellent

    -avielle

  • It's deep...a really rich sound. (Heck, now I want to play this!)

    Good work. Post more videos!!

    :)

  • Thank you. It sounds nice.

  • What's the difference between the viola and the violin?

  • The viola is larger, and sounds deeper. It has different strings which are tuned a fifth below the violin. So, where the violin has E,A,D, strings, the viola has A,D,G,C.

Also the viola plays from a different clef! It is the only orchestral instrument that uses the alto clef as it's main clef. The alto clef sits in between the treble and bass clefs, and has middle C on the middle line.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Plus violas are like way cooler ;)

    Haha.

Not just because i'm a viola player but i think the rich lower music is better.

  • ditto...how long you been playin' i've been playing for about 4 years. supposed to be in orchestra 2, but north wouldn't let me in. they claimed there wasn't any room. (liars)

  • completely.

  • You did pretty good. Although, your vibrato is a little tight. Relax your arm so that your vibrato doesn't get tight. Otherwise, not bad.

  • What is the name of this piece?

  • It's a transcription of the third movement of Sonata No.5 for cello by Vivaldi :)

  • Hello, I like the tenderness in your playing. Are you taking lessons with anyone at the moment? According to the video, I think you should not have any problem to play a 15"and half viola or 16". my comment for the video is that, you are doing very well with the sound track, but gives you no freedom to be on your own. You would like it move if you can find a human pianist to actualy accompany you. Could have used a little more bow! keep up with the good work!

  • i've played the piano for years n like it a lot but.. but what i've always wanted to do is play the violin.. i find it very enjoyable n tat it would be something i an put my hard work and effort into without complaining... I just guess im stuck with the piano for now... you played well

  • i thought that the viola was a crappy instrument in the 6th grade because the violas never got any of the special parts in pieces like the violins, and i hated it. now being in 8th grade, it's the violins that i don't like now! i could never picture myself holding one of those small things!

  • I Play Vioola And I Am Enjoying It Verry Much Comment Below Well Give It Up Then If Yuu Dont Like It!!

  • why would you want to learn the viola? i play the viola and theres nothing exiting to play that isnt a cheap copy of violin parts.

  • Why do you play the viola if it doesn't excite you? Why don't you play the violin if it appeals more? I think it's a shame that someone would waste their time playing something they don't enjoy.

I play the violin too, but I love the deeper voice of the viola. I particularly like the Telemann and Walton viola concertos, the Vaughan Williams suites, and all of Rebecca Clarke's work...don't you like any of these? There's loads of viola music that I find exciting.

  • you should tell me som eof thoses peices. I cant find anything fun

  • Try "Morpheus" by Rebecca Clarke, and the Telemann Viola Concerto for starters :) They were both written especially for the viola so they really suit it!

  • yeahhhh... i h8ed the viola.. but i played it..and i loved it way more

and now i can play cello and violin just from viola =]

  • Whoa, fantastic :D I have tried the cello but can't get my head round the fact your put your fingers down 1-3-4 instead of 1-2-3!

  • i know lol its hard for me

    i get mixed up

and im way to young to learn all the mimicing...>.> lol

    =]

  • good job. i love my gliga maestro. and if you want i violin with a sweet mellow tone gliga is the way to go

  • really good i play the viola 2

  • Relax your bow hand a little bit, yeah? Your fingers should be round and totally relaxed. apart from that all you need is confidence. =]

  • Anyone know what a bigginer viola goes for? Very sweet song.

  • upir adorable.. hhaa nice playing

  • It sounds like wake up call By Maroon 5

  • Great piece. I LOVE the sound. It is how a true viola is supposed to sound in my opinion.

  • Wow, I wish I could vibrato like that. Mine sucks. I'm still confused how you do vibrato, but watching you helped a bit.

I've been playing viola for about 3 years, its so fun. But I'm not too good at it.

But you're absolutely amazing at it!

  • nice job, i've been been viola for about 6 years, funny thing is that i don't take private lessons and i rock :)

  • Wonderfuly done for only a years worth did you say?

Vibrato is perfect aswell. I also play the viola. Been playing for about 3 years now.

  • really nice. Thanks for the upclose finger placement. Put more of it in your videos.

  • heyy ive been playing 4 about 5 yrs now. DONT B AFRAId 2 PLAY. u gotta trust urself that u no the music!!! but really good

  • beautiful~! i've been playing for about a year, and its still sounds like that watery stirring sound you get off of a begginer bass, but i like it, but i like the earthy rich sound even better ^ ^ and you've got it the way i like it~

  • Hey! This is good but a few pointers.

PLAY LOUND AND STRONG your holding a viola you cannot be afraid to make a loud noise. Also use lovely thick vibrato so that you get the best possible mellow sound that you can. ANd finally, Dig your bow into the string it helps alot!

    Keep up the good work!!!

  • Nice. I play the viola... For 3 years

  • hello~~ thnx and i think its great!! haha u deserve it!!

  • okay..its so beautiful!! haha..im playing violin and i hate the squeaky sound...so can anyone tell me how to prevent it??Thnx!!oh yea, and ure the best!!

  • You are so mind, thank you so much! :) I sound squeaky on the violin too, I get a much better sound on the viola. I think it helps if you have good strings though - Dominants work well, I have them on my violin and on this viola here. Good luck!! I bet you rock the violin!!! xx

  • wow that's amazing! im just an 8th grader, playing viola for 1 year, and i really want to know tips on how to play better! got any? <3

  • Thanks loads! I know playing better is all down to doing lots of practice - I know that sounds boring, but it's true.

I know I keep playing out of tune, so now I practice slowly, using a digital tuner to check that I'm getting each note right. I'm slowly improving!

Go for it, and good luck :D

  • flex your wrist so you can play faster and don't be afraid to gouge your strings!

plus if you get a note wrong it doesn't matter carry on as if nothing happened and you shall go far!

  • Thank you! Advice like this is very useful to me. I know I need to be heavier on the strings, I'm working on that right now :)

  • try to more of the bow, dont' let the pinky on the right hand to stretch, allow it to relax and bend. The bow is going over the fingerboard, try to keep it straight, right now its crooked. This may feel comfortable, but it will make all the difference if you keep it straight. The reason its crooked is partly because the pinky isn't flexible, make sure all the base knuckles are flexible

  • Thanks very much for your advice, I'll try that :)

  • are some notes false or is it just me?

  • Yes, as I explained above, I haven't been playing for very long and know that there are lots of out of tune notes! :)

  • ow okay ^^ didnt read that =P

  • Really great! I miss playing the Viola so much!

Excellent clean transition to 3rd position at 1:50 and you seem to be really into the music which is great.

Keep up the good work :)

  • hi, did u find it easy to teach urself the violin and how long were u playin the violin for?

  • Well Done you :D
