I personally liked Zant's characterization. In my opinion, he seemed at first to be another generic "badass" villain. But when his plans go pear-shaped when Link and Midna arrive, he seems to slowly descend into what he truly is: a pathetic, psychopathic manchild. And then he acts like a monkey.

I don't know, it just feels to me as if Twilight Princess was a lot more easy than any of the past Zeldas were, even without considering prior experience.

Zant's attack patterns being forgiving(like being extremely easy to block) comes to mind, since the only problem were some of the surprise sucker punches he'd try to pull on the final form, but the damage on those attacks are pitiful after all the buildup to Zant.

Ganon is like a classic comic book villain.

You can't replace him, but if you don't keep breathing new life into him, he stagnates.

I do think, however, that most of Ganon's recent appearances have done a lot for him as a character, and helped make him less 2-Dimensional.
