The tyre barriers and the fencing can somtimes act as a fulcrum, enabling the car to launch itself higher. In 1973 during the Spa 24hrs I saw Massimo Larini's Alfa reach a height of about 30m after being launched off the armco.
im guessing another one you are talking about is when he crashed the Volvo at BTCC into a barrier side on yeh? these are 2 of british racing's biggest crashes n neither were his fault on both occasions he got tapped by someone else
wowsers...i just been to my first BTCC at Donnington Park this afternoon saw a few "good" crashes but nothing near as spectacular as this one...a student nurse told me to check this guys crash out, cheers Rachel ;) !!
I missed this cuz I was coming back from the stalls. Definitely the biggest crash at thruxton since I've been going there (about 1999). So glad kelvin was ok.
I was post 7, the car between 7 and 8, I was about the 4th or 5th marshal on the scene, truly amazing that Kelvin wanted to get out of the car (can't blame him) but the Medics made him stay there till they had the sit on stretcher to take him to the Ambi and back to Med Centre to be checked out.
Quite frightening when running to an Incident that is still unfolding and then it goes OVER the fence, All Marshals, Medics and Security did their jobs order restored quickly.
I was there as well, and the feeling as it disappeared over the fence was reminicent of the accident last year during the Superbikes (also at Thruxton on the complex) when a bike flipped over the railing. I am just so glad that again no one was killed or severly injured
I was in the guest car, about p8 at this stage, and all of us behind had a clear view of this accident. Speaking with some of the other drivers it was particularly worrying when we came around behind the safety car, expecting to see the wreckage, and it wasn't in sight. So glad Kelvin and nobody else was hurt, just goes to show how strong the car is, and needs to be when these freak accidents happen. Thanks to all you brave marshalls who risk what you do so we can go racing. Matt Howson
I was a marshal on post 5, the entry into the complex. Our view of this area is limited due to the track going into a dip but we did see the porsche appear in the air.
Yes thanks for that, we were on the banking between the pits and Allard when the accident happened out of sight. The cameraman was brave to follow the action without jumping off of his tower. Kelvin was a very lucky man to get out of it.
We could see this from the grand stand on the other side of the track

Given the right circumstances, a car could even get over the fence at Indy.
All I have to say is we've been damn lucky we haven't had another incident like '55 in Le Mans.

Only joking, but I have heard young people are sharper and more instinctive, given half a chance, Kelvin.

Kelvin Burt is not another talentless amateur - he's won races in the BTCC and British F3 before now.

Absolutely amazing he wasn't hurt in that. He's had his fair share of big crashes.
