I believe "Hi! Hi! Hi!" sounds more like The Trial from Pink Floyd's The Wall, and Belch's Factory sounds more like Flash by Queen until it sounds like Jaws in that last bit of the sample.
Otherwise, I agree with most of these. They're hilarious.
@AgeOfPisces I noticed one more song (probably) in Fourside Cafe (Boris' Cocktail): One little part of Duran Duran's song "Tel Aviv" in 7:30 (In Tel Aviv's first seconds /watch?v=Ec3DlFbSlK0)
allright, heres the deal with belches factory. it is a remake of of duncans factory from mother 1. duncans factory is almost a sound alike to welcome to the machine. so if you are confused why this man put that in, he didn't make a mistake.
Wow, I had no idea so much of this music was sampled and/or done in the style of other songs. The only one I recognized while playing was Johnny B. Goode.
It sucks that there's such a potential legal minefield that's keeping Earthbound from being re-released. I guess we could say, given the Sky Runner theme, that those lawyers ...
This is exactly the video I had hoped to see since the early 2000's. mohteryouhadme 's channel was an incredible fix, but this one cover's every little area I can think of. Other than the bus theme being a play on the Peter Gunn theme. (blues brothers!) You deserve recognition from starman.net!!!
Good stuff, just thought I'd add that the Cave of the Past is actually a sample slowed down multiple times from the opening of Deirdre by The Beach Boys.
I highly doubt belch's factory was based on that song because mother 1 had the original music for when you were in the underwater rooms when you met EVE.
LOL XD at Saturn Valley being "Wild Honey Pie"... Although... It really does sound the same to me! Most of The Beatles-EarthBound stuff does sound simillar (sp?) since I'm probably the BIGGEST Beatles fan here xD
The shop theme is a rag, that's all it is. You even mention "Dallas Rag" in your comment and still claim it has something specifically to do with "When I'm 64". This seems pretty ridiculous to me.
The similarity between "Good Morning, Good Morning" and the Hotel morning song is... what, a repeated two-note phrase? Same for Tessie and "SFF"... really? What an absurd stretch. It's like a teenager that just discovered the Beatles and is imagining connections where there aren't any...
I take no issue with most of the SAMPLES given. (Although I don't think you mentioned that the Sound Stone background track is the opening rhythm of "Give Peace a Chance".) However, a lot of the other stuff where you claim that the music itself is taken from elsewhere is unfounded.
I once read that there's a reference to the Super Mario Bros. theme in Master Belch's battle theme. Was on Wikipedia, but last time I checked, it had since been removed.
Anyway, plan to research more of this? I'm particularly interested in Battle Against a Machine, and maybe also Battle Against a Mobile Opponent and Pokey Means Business.
This is so, so, so good. Seriously. I've literally never bothered to say this before, but you did such a good job with this. I've been a hardcore, HARDCORE Earthbound fan since I was 8, and heavily involved with the community, and I still didn't even know some of these.
little fun fact about earthbound b4 it was released: the original name 4 the sky runner was gonna be sky walker, but nintendo said "NO!!". as well as the clothing of the runaway 5, nintendo thought it looked to much liked the blues brothers, so they changed it.
While I can certainly hear some of the same notes in some of these songs, it seems to be far more coincidence than anything. I'm not convinced at all of even any inspiration from The Beatles.
@GregorioXII The people who made the music of the game said they were inspired by The Beatles. And Itoi himself had said he is a huge Beatles fan. Besides, how else would you explain the Yellow Submarine in Dungeon Man?
Uh, you do realize that the beginning of All You Need is Love is the beginning of La Marseillaise, the French national anthem. That is pretty well known, so I wouldn't assume that they took that from the Beatles song, they just made it sound similar to La Marseillaise.
@jooshiscrazy I'm sure he realizes it, but it's actually a sample from the recording used on All You Need is Love. It doesn't sound quite the same, but that's mostly because it's been compressed enough to be used in an SNES game.
This is so blatant reason. Many games at the time done this:
Actraiser's ending and 20th Century Fox fanfare, Robo's theme and Rick Astley, SF2: Ken's theme and Cheap trick. Worst of all is the first Sonic the Hedgehog game with many "borrowed" music and was re-released many times.
@After4th Can you explain this a little better? It sounds really interesting, but I've never noticed any of those. I see how Robo's theme sounds kind of like Never Gonna Give You Up, but I wouldn't really call it sampling. It's like Elec Man's theme from the first Mega Man and All the Right Friends by REM. They're similar, but it's doubtful that it's intentional. And what exactly is borrowed in Sonic? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just curious.
@ninjapocalypse I learned Sonic's music similarities after watching a video uploaded by "Clan Of The Gray Wolf" (16 bit gems). It includes Marble Zone and Andy Williams - "Music to Watch Girls By", Spring Yard Zone and Bobby Brown - "Every Little Step", and probably many more not shown. Whether you agree if the music sound similar.
Thanks for uploading wonderful describing word in the video for the deaf and hard-of-hearing so I can feel music better and understand which titles from the Beatles.
Where are you getting those song titles for the EB songs? They don't sound right at all. For example, the shop theme is supposed to be "Humoresque of a Little Dog", not whatever you called it.
wow never knew this, great info, never really liked the beatles to much but I loved Earthbound music so I guess that makes me some sort of weird hypocrite. damn you space time continuum!

It's just like Doom. They sampled music like crazy for that game.
Basically they handed their composer a bunch of metal albums and told him "make it sound like this" and then he did.
He used to be an attorney or something and apparently knew just how much he could sample and get away with.
