its basically pus that builds around an infection to keep it from spreading to other parts of the body. good to get rid of it since it can grow to keep blood from circulating properly.
No, it wasn't very painless after the lidocaine. I just had this done to me yesterday (my abscess is in the same spot) and the lidocaine was amazingly painful. Then the lancing and draining and packing hurt just as much. I don't think the lidocaine kicked in until they were putting the final dressings on. I'm dreading getting the packing removed tomorrow.

Wimp -.- I've had those before. They don't hurt much. I just let them burst on their own but if they don't do that after a while, I just take a small needle to it and squeeze it so it drains.
I wouldn't go so far as to let somebody poke at it before it's come to a head, though if it doesn't come to a head on its own, you need to get it cleared out. It can go necrotic if it isn't taken care of. I had one and the doc gave me antibiotics, good pain meds, and it spontaneously drained the next day. Slap on a bandage and it healed nicely in about a week. No surgery involved, thank god!
Definitely horrible! Can you believe they even have support groups due to how bad they can get! They are caused by trauma to the area-soldiers in WWII would get them from riding around in Jeeps all day (little to no shocks in the suspension). I had one from falling on my ass ice skating. They're gross and extremely painful. I'm suprised I haven't seen a Pilonidal video on here yet!

Usually with an abscess, stuff comes out. I saw the person lance, probe and squeeze it and in the next video it gets packed, but what got removed?
toemirou 3 years ago
Feel lucky that's all they had to do! I had to have a 2.9" deep abcess removed on my stomach less than 2 weeks ago!
