  • Here in the US it can take up to six months plus fingerprints, photos, Sheriff sign off and the $200.00 tax stamp.

What is the procedure there in NZ for suppressor ownership?

  • Where do you live in NZ mate? im up in auckland, I own a norinco NHM-90, check out my vids.

  • i love your gun table:) hey u have to improvise sometimes, right? great vid

  • nice looking Norinco you got there. Love that Shooting table as well :) lol

  • very good vid mate! nice camera too, wish we could still own semi autos here in oz but john howard and rebecca peters achieved their dream to rid oz of semis.

  • @friedmeat Thanks.

Yes unfortunate about that. No doubt the criminals kept their semi autos while the law abiding gave them up. Hardly a win for rational regulation. I won't be idle should such moronic regulation be pushed over here.

  • Hmmm,I wonder the logistics of getting a scout mount on it with a Burris Scout scope......

Nice vids btw and very proffesionally done....tell GC to send you a AR 15 for a review

  • Great Video. I will like know how to get the silencer. I have aquired one in the past weeks. I would love not to bother my neighbors and still unload a 7.62x39

  • @klimaxing70 Since you're in the US I can't really help. I believe the suppressor laws over there are quite backward and restrictive when it comes to suppressors. You've got great firearms law through the 2nd Amendment, but we're ahead when it comes to suppressors :D

  • Beautiful rifle, that's the paratrooper model I believe I also had one. Never got to shoot it though. I know have the full sized model.

  • I would give anything to go to New Zealand

  • how is the recoil from this rifle, because it doesn't look like very much in this vid.

  • @dan6896 recoil is mild. Comfortable shooting for as long as you want.

  • I have never seen one with such a tiny little mag

  • @realsamwise Barely looks different to the standard internal mag.

  • Nice rifle and accuracy. Suppresor doesnt seem to make much difference. . at least from what I see in the vid. Have a Yugo SKS myself and love it. Fun gun indeed.

  • Heya grannman, I'm looking at picking one of these up in the next couple weeks, I was just wondering if you'd be able to tell me what the iron sights are like (I don't plan to get a scope, keeping it basic.) I plan to use it for hunting pigs and possibly goats on DOC land. Cheers mate.

  • @Dragonego good choice. I'd avoid a scope setup also.

The iron sights are fairly good in my opinion. You can see a view down the irons at around 2 minutes in on part 1.

  • @grannman Thankyou.

  • If you could reload your own and keep them subsonic they'd really be a lot more "silenced" with that supressor you have. That sonic crack is still pretty loud.

  • Great Video!! Pleasure to watch.

  • is norinco still in production? my brother used to own one here in the u.s exactly like yuors, but his came with a factory 30 rd. clip. is there a reason why his was different from yours?

  • @phleshR2FK As far as I know SKS rifles are still manufactured for export. The US banned Norinco guns back in the 90s. Norinco had several different SKS variants with varying features like mag capacities and barrel length.

  • omg, i wish i could reload that fast!!!!! =D

  • Good deer rifle?

  • @noelsoong777 It'd do the job.

  • exelent shooting considering an sks has a average 10# trigger pull u do a trigger job on ur work horse n u would be amazed at how tight a group u can pull out of ur sks ps extreamly jealous of you silencer an way to recycle the ironing board no 1 irons cloths any more lol

  • silencer ? how and where

  • I want to live... where you live...

  • hey im thinking of getting 1 of these for christmas but i have a question since im obviously only 14 >.> the sks is pretty much like a m1 carbine right?

  • @NoobTubeService No. The sks shoots the 7.62x39 round (like the AK47) and has an internal, non-detachable magazine while the m1 carbine has a detachable mag and shoots a .30 carbine round.

7.62x39 is cheaper and shoots a heavier bullet considerably faster than the .30 carbine. There really is no contest between the ammunition as the .30 carbine is more of a pistol round. 7.62x39 wins on every level. The sks has earned a comparatively stronger reputation for reliability and imo is simpler

  • @grannman

sorry man but the 30-06 or .30 cal has a much higher muzzle velocity then the 7.62. even the lower grain ones. and definatly no where near a pistol round, but the 7.62 is quite a bit bigger for sure. lots more damage with the lower velocity and lead tip if your hunting :D

  • @360DRONE Look up ".30 carbine" and do some reading.

30-06, .308, .303, 7.62x54r, 7.62x39 are all .30 calibre rifle rounds which have vastly more power than the .30 carbine which is essentially a pistol round.

  • @grannman

ohh yo man i was baked last night i kept reading .30 caliber

  • @360DRONE No probs. Just kick the drug crap buddy.

  • thats a beautiful backyard hows the work in new zealand im thinking of moving there

  • @rocky038 Yes it's a really nice spot.

Watch out, our gun laws aren't as good as the U.S.

Work availability depends on your occupation, but I'd say if you want work you'll find it.

  • have u ever shot with the jw103 7.62x39, it looks ok and better suited to me as it is bolt but i need someones thoughts on it.

  • @grillpan123 no experience with the jw103. I'd look on nz fishnhunt forum if I were you.

  • norinco m305 or sks, which in ur opinion is better (accuracy, weight, reliability etc)

  • @grillpan123 If you haven't got higher powered rifle yet I'd get the m305. Simply because you can use .308 for everything + it has good range. The short barrelled sks is a nimble shooter, faster to wield and lighter. Very pointable in bush etc due it's length. 7.62x39 doesn't have nearly the range of the .308 but still has decent power. The m305 has detachable mags and is more suited to scopes (no receiver mods). Decent m305 scope mounts cost $200+ though. alluminium mounts = frustration.

  • Why do u have your elbow sticking out like that when you shoot? You would have it blown off if you were in war. I guess you're lucky that deer don't shoot back.

  • @p0p80 thought I'd check it out to see if I was different. I never thought about it, it's the natural form for me and most people. Elbow out is a standard position from the pics I dredged up. The tactical run and gun types like to tuck them in when shooting low recoil guns, but that looks truly awkward to me.

  • nice ironing board!

  • Good vid mate, gee, the suppressor makes a big difference, good bit of shooting too. Brings back memories of the good old days before they banned the good stuff, why suppressors are illegal here in Aus is a real mystery .

I am heading over there in a weeks time, Gun City is on my must see list!,

  • Try using stripper clips to load faster for the 10 rd. box mags. In the US you can buy 30 clips for $10. I can hit a dime at 425 yards with my Norinco SKS! Try using a muzzle break or build a custom barrel at someones machine shop! GREAT VIDEO! I use a Mosin Nagant ($129 US) with an NC Star 10-40x50 scope for my long range targets. My best with it has been 1200 meters/yards. Also I would put a target out by that fence - that's about the distance I shoot with a scope for my SKS! Great Shooting!!

  • @Mark48152 If I'd had stripper clips at the time I would have used them. Hitting a dime at 425 yards with an sks would take quite a number of rounds.

What scope do you have on your sks?

  • From across the pond, thank you for sharing this video. It is nice to see people in other countries being able to own and use a weapon that had at one time been in military service. And even with a sound moderator.

You handled that weapon very well. My hats off to you, and whoever taught you how to shoot.

    --John A.

  • are SKS silencers sold in USA too???

  • In canada, you can get this gun from a website called marstars for a normal price of $199 cad and sometimes they have sales and it's like $150 Cad, what an absolutely EXTRAORDINARY deal, an air rifle costs more than that! If you want the most bang for your buck, than the Norinco SKS ranks #1 on the list!

  • Excellent video - I have been looking at one of those silencers. The Gun City SKS rifles are good value. Cheers...

  • nice backyard! maybe you should open up an amusement park or form another nation back there

  • where did you get that dustcover? i have one with a rail on it too but mine is much more high profile... dont like it

  • it's not actually a dustcover because the standard dust cover is still sitting under it. It's a B Square mount 18569 I believe.

  • Great shooting. I wish more videos were posted by responsible individuals like yourself. The New Zealand countryside looks beautiful.

  • Choice crocs mate!

  • are silencers legal in NZ?? They are in America only if you pay for a license

  • I have never seen teh 5 round internal mag over here in the US? Also, your scope looks a little too high to get a proper cheek weld? Looks like your chin is sitting on the stock? Cool gun! I have a Norinco Paratrooper.

  • It is a 7 round internal mag rigged up for the New Zealand market for our gun laws. Yes the scope is a little high.

  • @grannman What happened to make the New Zealand Gov. think they needed to restrict the magazine capacity? Cant bad things still happen with 7 rounds as easily as 10 rounds? We have stupid gun laws here in America also. 30 round mags are ok in one state but the state next door (in the same country) make you a criminal all of a sudden?

  • @mixflip There is little rhyme or reason in regards to gun control laws anywhere. To be "seen to be doing something" is the only reason we have these irrational restrictions. Some nutjob called David Gray went on a shooting spree that no laws could have stopped because he consciously decided to break the law. Thus good NZ people are penalised for no rational reason from normal capacity mags to mags like this SKS.

  • nice gun, nice place, nice shots..all toghether. pretty nice.

  • wow New Zealand looks nice. geez, I thought the gun laws there were like those of the UK. I guess I was wrong.

  • Yeah the UK went off the deep end with their gun law in my opinion. The law abiding citizens were the ones to pay and the criminals just laugh.

  • They can't ban them without a lot of grief. Gun controls and rationality are opposites thanks to politicians.

  • hey when new z. bans these rifles all together can you tell your goverment leaders they can make a profit by selling it to us Americans? lol thank the English liberals for these silly limits on your guns.

  • Do you guys have different floorplates down under? The SKS I have holds 10 rounds. Also - Hard to supress supersonic rounds...

  • The internal mags would have been modified to ony accept 7 rounds to meet our gun law requirements. Supersonic is always hard to suppress, still the suppressor takes a good amount out of the blast. Many people look at suppressors as magically producing 'phut phut' reports until they actually use them.

  • For the so called freeworld countries we live in, it sure doesn't feel all that free

  • Yes indeed.

  • True. I was suprised how quiet it was down range. the gun shot heard at the camera near the target was much quieter than I expected. And at the end of the video, shooting it with and without the supressor was good to show the difference in sound.

    Great vids.

  • my uncle has got a norinko sks!!!but he hasn got supressor and scope

  • Excellent videos man. You a CGNer?

  • Thanks. Yes, canadiangunnutz member.

  • Ha small world! Could you possibly do a review of the CZ 858?

  • I'd love to if I had one. They are a restricted firearm over here unless the pistol grip is removed and mag restricted to 7 rounds.

  • Oh well. I think California has the same law regarding pistol grips; something I'll never understand. At least you get 7 rounds there as oppose to the five round limit we have here in Canada. Are you allowed to use the 10 round LAR mags there in your AR's? It's somewhat of a legal loop hole we have. Unfortunately AR's are considered restricted here and can only be used at the range.. Except for AR180B that is

  • All mags must be limited to 7 rounds for standard (A-cat) semi auto firearms. If you had a 10 round mag for an AR you could have it modified to only accept 7 rounds. If a magazine looks as though it clearly holds more than 7 rounds it is also illegal here for use on A-cat firearms.

  • Nice Video.

What kind of optics mount is that?

Does It hold zero over multiple days?

  • I think the mount is a b-square mount. It locks on quite securely so zero should hold fairly well. Just have to make sure all the screws stay tight.

  • wow thats one of the cleanest SKS' i've seen on youtube, pretty good man, but how much did that suppressor cost you?

  • The suppressor came fitted with the rifle I was sent to review.

  • Great vid! The gun laws in New Zealand must be pretty good... if you're allowed to use suppressors freely like that. I envy you. lol.

    -A Canadian.

  • Nice little range you have yourself set up there.

This was the standard service rifle with the People's Liberation Army, and they still use it as a ceremonial weapon.I personally think it was based on the M1 Garand, but with a more reliable magazine and bolt system.

  • Yes a convenient location for having some shooting fun. I reckon the sks is more of an evolution of the SVT.

  • Your collection grows, my envy also!!!!

With reduction power Accuracy of the weapon grows, But only on short distances 50-200m

    With RPK74M on a distance 100m I easily did groups 09-08Moa!!!!!

sks is more of an evolution of the PTRS-41{;-)

  • @fixdeluxe1

not sure but i think its older than m1 garand

  • Nope,M1 Garand introduced into service back in 1936.SKS was a development off the SVT,and was introduced in 1945 as a counter to the American Garand.

  • fixdeluxe1 You are mistaken

1)AVS introduced into service back in 1936.

2)PTRS41 was a development off the AVS.

3)SKS was a development off the PTRS 41.

DO NOT CONFUSE TWO WELL-KNOWN DESIGNERS Simonov and Tokarev!!!!!

  • Alright, but it was the same principle,a semi-automatic rifle that didn't last long.

  • Nice shooting mate great rifle : ) i sent you a msg about the Dragunov i got me a Dragunov SVD old school sniper rifle and i was asking you to make a vid on how to clean it and if you have any ideas of redoing the paint job on it living in saudi arabia is a pain in the Arss and no one here knows a hole lot about this rare rifle could you please make a video about that if you can thank you and great shooting : D

  • Yep I remember you. I don't know if/when I can make a vid of cleaning, but I can describe what to do. I use boretech eliminator solvent and an otis pull through kit allong with some kleenbore cleaning brushes. I use Inox anti-corrosion spray and basically spray it on everywhere and you'll never have to worry about rust ever again. Pull a few patches soaked with boretech through, then pull a nylon brush through with some boretech in it wait 10 min and pull dry patches through.

  • use the boretech to wipe on the piston and soak a bit before whiping off with rag and perhaps some brushing with a toothbrush. Can take a bit of effort but the piston cleans up real nice. Screw one of the kleenbore brushed into the otis kit and wrap a patch around the brush with some solvent on it to push down the gas tube. Also drip a few drips of boretech down there with the barrel pointed down. Wipe off the bolt with Inox or some oil. That should give you a good idea of what to do.

  • thanks alot that will help me very useful information thank you for your time on answering this and have a nice day :))

  • you have the best backyard for shooting, i wish i had nice rolling hills instead of apartments behind my house

  • Never seen or heard a suppressed SKS. Sounds interesting, sort of like a .22. Did you have the barrel threaded by a gunsmith, or did it arrive as such?

  • The barrel was already threaded when it arrived. It certainly makes quite a difference.

  • stripper clips my friend!!

  • True, handy to have.

  • Its been so long since I've shot it's sad. I can tell you've been practicing a lot.. you're a good shot mate :)

  • I like the landscape, is it expensive to live in NZ?

  • It isn't expensive unless you choose to live in a pricey area.

  • Nice video.

  • are silencers allowed in NZ?

Is it legal to shoot on your property?

I'm thinking of moving there one day :D

  • no regulation on silencers and you can shoot on your property so long as you are not close to the road and aren't harassing your neighbours with the noise.

  • Nice :D

  • Great Shooting mate.

  • Good work :)

  • excellent video quality- i hope to buy one soon. you could stand in for Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords

on their next recording if he ever loses his voice!!! 8) (i likes 'em- they're kewl)

    ---payce

  • thanks payce, those conchords guys crack me up too. They sure put NZ on the map!

  • @grannman - where do you get a sound suppressor like that one? that's an awsome rifle!

  • this silencer and rifle is from guncity*co*nz. Silencers are freely available at most gun stores.

  • i thot Split Enz first, then Peter Jackson

    put NZ on the map?!

  • More great work. Keep'em coming.

  • It's nice the SKS has a bolt-hold-open feature. Makes it very helpful for cooling off between reloads, and allows firing range managers to check weapons during a cease fire, unlike the Kalashnikov-type rifles.

  • expensive?

  • well currently its about 499 NZD for a new base model sks from guncity, so probably about $900 NZD for this rifle if it had a cheaper 4x28 scope.
