hey i think i can answer this you know the little gold puppy in old yeller? in the book that gold puppy was a bluetick puppy like savage sam. But in the savage sam book savage sam was a golden lab. So it seems like old yeller book is like this movie and the old yeller movie is like savage sam book.

I really don't see the fuss here with the "animal cruelty". He tossed the cat, he didn't pick it up and smash it into the ground.

Also, Arliss is as big a pill in this movie as he was in the last one. What a brat!

@jermster17 It would take a LOT more than a rock to hurt a mule, unless it was aimed directly at his eye. Also, the dog and bobcat were trained animals. They were probably just batting each other around, not actually attacking. Laws preventing animal abuse on films were already in place by the time this movie was made. There's no way they could have actually hurt the animals without getting into trouble.

@jcamp1246 It's supposed ti be old yeller's pup but when they made this they forgot the pup given to Travis and Arlis looked like Travis so you have to assume this dog takes after his mother in looks.

I just had a funny image of Maury doing an episode on animal planet to do a paternity test to see who Savage Sam's father is Maury saying to Old Yeller you are not the father he barks and chases his tail then announcing my friends TIck hound Bandit you are the father and he hangs his head and wimpers and my friend not being happy with results

I did a little digging around and turns out that in the book the pup was named Savage Sam cause he was just like his father in stealing food and so on in the second book. So like most film adaptions it didn't go along with the book but I agree they should have made this a lot better and more accurate. pity.

i had to read "Old Yeller" for a book report and i absolutely loved the book, so i decided to watch the movie (no tears to my surprise)

and once again i loved it =D certainly not as good as the book though. I'm not gonna have time to read the book so I'm just going to watch the movie =P i hope its good! ^-^
