@superstition2 nonsense!! comrade richter received the order of Lenin and Stalin I know you don't care --hey salon he also thought the USA (that means you!) stunk and after 1970 refused to play in this cesspool country

I don't like Richter's interpretation of that sublime work at all ! How can anyone say, he plays it better than Barenboim ? I am deeply shocked, how some people know so little of Beethoven!! Listen to BARENBOIM's interpretation and THINK before giving me 100 minuses- THINK !
something called taste never occured to you? its not an objective subject to argue about, its completely subjective, especially in cases of such great pianists like richter and barenboim that know what are they doing and understand music in its depth
@gorgalsi blablabla, "better better better" butter. i am tired of people on youtube who keep comparing masters like that. richter's not better than barenboim, barenboim's not better than richter. ridiculous
@gouloum2222 you know if you say it this way...i gotta tell ya that richter was better than barenboim.....you know even barenboim would accept that...first of all...this is a concert, no fucking body can play such pieces in concert with this angagement, this here ist not a christmas song you know,...it is the last sonata of beethoven...this makes some diffirents of performing arts..for this performance you gotta simply have the "right" life story, and the "right" fate...
I'm always concerned that Beethoven would not be able to impress me no longer with his music cuz I've listened so much of him over and over again.. But then find something like this... and find myself proven wrong for the billionth time
This is one of the greatest performances of this work I've ever heard! Bravo for posting this! How about the other movement of this and the other 2 sonatas from the concert?
It happens in a lot of recordings, the first time I saw that I though it was a fake video but it happens usually in these fast-playing videos. Forgive me for my English, because l'm Spanish. Thank you all for your undesrstanding.

You are all wrong. This is too fast, has no grandeur and sounds rushed. Barenboim (drama) and Lill (grandeur) are much closer to what I would look for.
I've recently purchased this recodring of Parnasus records from amazon. I strongly recommend you to obtain this one, as Richter;s interpretation of Bethoven's late sonatas is really remarkable here. In addition threre are couple of encores of Brahms and Chopin pieces, also played masterfully.
This is the best performance of this music I have ever heard and believe me that I have heard them all. Whoever able to interpret this music this well had reached the point of perfection. He is standing on the tallest mountain seeing God and all of God's creation and he gives thanks for the chance of experiencing true ecstasy. I give thanks to God and to Beethoven and to Richter for the opportunity to feel true beauty that could never be put into words; not even by the greatest of the poets.
At 2:56 you can hear in the background really soft the phrase that is coming at 3:00.

Why did he start the phrase at 7:06 so fast? It is supposed to be gradually accelerated.

grandeur is not part of music....it is something that grows from society.
this performance is great because it conveys the quintessential feelings

How come around 2:56-2:57 you can hear the piano play before you hear the "real" piano play? Even if its a recording error, it is a bit odd.

It is because it was originally recorded on tape and that is tape bleed-through; a common occurrence in the days of analog recording to tape.
