If the Right was really interested in creating jobs, they would increase spending, especially on infrastructure and education. This formula has been shown to work throughout history, and to help pay for it, cut the military budget some, and increase taxes--primarily on the wealthy. Clinton did this, and we saw the result. Tax cuts on the other hand, have shown to have little to no effect on the economy--but they do blow a hole in the budget.
Nope. Increasing spending hasn't worked, as the stimulus failed. Even though I'm not crazy about Ron Paul, you could learn a thing or two about economics from him. You don't spend your way out of a recession. Clinton raised taxes AFTER the recession was over. You don't raise taxes DURING a recession. This is basic stuff, dude.
Tax cuts have no effect on the economy? You mean like how they got us of the Jimmy Carter recession and the 2001 recession? You cut taxes AND spending.
Cutting taxes AND spending means that the budget will be fine. Even Dems agree that middle class tax cuts help the economy if taxes on the rich don't.
Shut up about increasing taxes on the rich. 46% of Americans pay no federal income taxes. Make them pay first if it's all about people "paying their fair share." The rich deserve to keep the money that they've earned too.

@Edgehead10075 You know, I at first almost rejected this argument, but after doing some research, I'm actually prepared to accept it for primary and secondary education. We are already #3 or #4 in spending per student. The Baltimore Sun has a great article by Marc Tucker and Jerry Weast (June 20, 2011). I think the true core of the problem is cultural--we just don't truly value education the way we should.
@DandAinTac Increasing spending in the public sector does not improve infrastructure nor education. One must just look at Detroit or Chicago to come to this conclusion.
@bartek4443 So it is your assertion, that education does not help the economy in the long term? Nor infrastructure? The federal interstate system for example--that did nothing for the economy? Airports? Dams? Port facilities? Bridges? How about the Eerie Canal? None of this does a damn thing to help the economy? Well, major business leaders beg to differ. When questioned, top business leaders consistently cite education and infrastructure as the most important things government should do.
@DandAinTac lol, looks like you learned everything from either Keynes or Elizabeth Warren. Look what happened to central planning in pretty much every cities' projects. Was that good? How about public schools? The tuition of a good private school in Chicago is around $7000 a year whereas the unbelievably poor public school system spends nearly $10,000 per student. Does that kind of monopoly help the economy? Do you actually think airports would cease to exist without the FAA?
@DandAinTac how has gov't involvement in education benefitted in any way? ... I'm not rich trust me, but I don't think its fair to steal from some to give to others... I am against shady corporatism and loopholes and bailouts ... increasing spending just puts the burden on the young for the future, which are the very people your intent is trying to help...
@papitosabe "how has gov't involvement in education benefitted in any way?" We've had public education in this country since the beginning. What was the result? The greatest nation on the planet. That may not be the only cause, but it's hard to argue that public education is inherently bad with such a result. Public education means that EVERYONE gets a shot, and sometimes it does cost a little more. I think the problem we have with education is that our society does not really value it. (cont)
@DandAinTac so what do you think about public education today? we're almost last.. so its time for something different, imo...I say get the gov't out...lets try free market, give discounts to those who want it...and we def need to get out of the college education system...prices way too high, and the education sucks unless you're rich..
@papitosabe (education continued). Our kids see that those with a diploma have the same luck getting a decent job as those without. There may be other problems as well, but I don't think it's fair to lay all problems on "government". We can look at other countries that excel at educating their kids--and guess what--they have government involvement. We should try to learn from their success.
@papitosabe "I don't think its fair to steal from some to give to others" Taxation is NOT theft. It's the price of civilization. We have millionaires telling Congress they need to be taxed more. Why? Because it's part of a sound fiscal policy for one thing. The rich did very very good under Clinton's taxation. A sound taxation policy--not too much or too little--Clinton hit it just right--is essential for a strong economy. Also the rich realize that they have a big stake in the Common Good.
@papitosabe "increasing spending just puts the burden on the young for the future" Republicans didn't have the slightest concern about spending when Bush was in office. It didn't matter--the sky was the limit. I was astonished to see, immediately after Obama took office, suddenly it was the biggest problem--and all Obama's fault. While it's time to set fault aside (it truly is bipartisan), we have to acknowledge that sometimes spending is necessary. When the economy was collapsing in 2008 (cont)

@papitosabe (spending continued)...in 2008, and Obama took office, every reputable economist was warning him that he had to increase spending dramatically to keep the US from falling into another Great Depression. Spending needs to happen to keep money circulating. Taxing and spending is what governments do. Is there such a thing as "wasteful spending"? Wasteful spending: building a school in Iraq. Good spending = building a school in the US.
@papitosabe "puts the burden on the young for the future" Last post for now--I promise. First of all, this is not necessarily true. Let's take those millionaires up on their offer, and we won't have to borrow. Second, sometimes spending benefits future generations. I see no problem with borrowing to help pay for roads and bridges our kids will be driving on as adults, and that will help their parents have jobs in the present.
So because they run a comedy station, they must automatically know what good comedy is? Lol. Why did they air Saturday Night Live all those years then? Lol. That was good. I'm much funnier than Bill Maher.
A lot of people are funnier than Bill Maher, not just me. Most people off the street are funnier than Maher. He has virtually zero talent; all he does is just insult conservatives. His father was also in show business, so he had connections. The guy's a loser and a moron. He has a job because he hates Republicans.
@Edgehead10075 Bill Maher is a pretty intellectual person. He doesn't appeal to the right when it comes to humor because his comedy comes from making fun of the anti-intellectual, bull shit that the right dishes out.
No, he's not intellectual. He doesn't believe in vaccines, and he thinks that the life of an animal is equal to that of a human being. He's a moron, so get your fucking facts straight, ya cunt. He appeals to hateful, bitter people such as yourself.
Really, followed him for years and never seen the not believe in vaccines, and he thinks that the life of an animal is equal to that of a human being. Maybe you should get your facts straight.
Well then you haven't paid enough attention to him. You can search "Bill Maher vaccines" on the net and come up with tons of shit, so you're just lazy.
Maher is a board member of PETA, and that's exactly what PETA believes regarding animals. He's also against animal testing yet supports embryonic stem cell research. He's a fucking idiot.
@Edgehead10075 Obviously you need to get your facts straight, because you seem pretty fucking bitter and he doesn't appeal to you... thats because he appeals to sensible, level headed people that realize that people on the far right and the republican candidates are just crazy.
If we look at what the teabaggers and republicans did with the debt ceiling it becomes obvious that they have become the "sleeper cell" of al-qaeda that we were all so worried about. These people have no interest in helping to improve things in this country. They only want to help the rich and the wealthy that don't need help. Where is the Christian ideal of helping the poor?
Evidently you don't see the national debt as a major issue, but many people do. Now you can argue that the Republicans are being hypocritical because they didn't make a big deal about it when Bush was president, but it's another thing to say that they're wrong. Comparing fiscal responsibility to Al Qaeda is just silly.
You say that they have no interest in improving things, but that's just not true. The Republicans don't believe that all of this spending by Obama is going to solve things.
So far, the big spending HASN'T solved anything. How has all of this spending helped the poor? The economy is still terrible.
Why do liberals bring up Christianity when they're for separation between church and state? Besides, the GOP is not against a basic safety net for the poor, but they are against unbridled spending.
If you want to get technical, the Bible is all about personal giving, not government giving.
All these Pro GOP comments are hillarious and mostly come from hicks and hillbillies that live in back woods. Funniest part is that most GOP supporters are poor and uneducated people and intellectualism escapes them. You give them sound argument and they say something so stupid and idiotic that it is hard to reply with an intelligent answer. HAHAHA Like Bush said, Fool me once and shame on me, fool me twice and...aahh fool can't get fooled twice except if you are GOP Supporter.
Yawn. Can you cite any sources to back up your statistics?
Here's a sound argument; THE STIMULUS FAILED. Obama's finished. Now it's time for you to deal with reality. Obama could only fool Americans ONCE, although he's fooled you many times over.
@Edgehead10075 then you should be ok. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish hillbilly and hick just by looking at them, but once they start talking you will recognize it right away. As far as difference between hick and hillbilly, well hillbillies live ion the hills mostly Appalachian and hicks live more west.
@Edgehead10075 go fuck yourself, hasselback is an idiot and you must be if you're a fan of hers. Maher is way smarter than she is and you're a fucking clown if you disagree.
Listen, moron. I couldn't give two shits about Elisabeth. My point is that Bill Maher himself is an idiot who has said many stupid things, so stop acting like his shit doesn't stink, you stupid cunt. Maher is a fucking liberal moron, and so are you. Obama's finished next year, and there's nothing you assholes can do about it. Bwahahahahahahaha!
@Edgehead10075 okay, if Obama's finished then you can have your precious Michelle Bachmann & Sarah Palin ruin the country far worse, bwahahahahahahahaa! I'm talking about Elizabeth, not Maher, you fuckin' douche bag. This video is about Hasselback talking about Maher & Maher responding.
@Edgehead10075 new york daily news, he says that Cheney has all the qualities he's looking for in an Vice President and he even sings Cheney's praises.
Did someone ask Romney about Cheney, or did Romney bring him up? If he was asked, he might just be showing loyalty to a fellow Republican in Cheney; what he said probably means nothing, though.
Speaking of Cheney, he says that Hillary should challenge Obama. That would be VERY interesting, but I don't think that she will.
@Edgehead10075 no he brought Cheney up. I don't think she would or should challenge Obama. He's got enough problems, that would be the LAST thing he needs.
HE doesn't need it, but maybe SHE does. Her poll numbers are very high, much higher than Obama's. She could beat him AND the GOP nominee. She certainly has a better chance of doing that than Obama.
And his stance is total bullshit not based on science. The benefits of taking a flu vaccine FAR outweigh the risks, and some people, including the elderly, have died from the swine flu. Maher's belief that vaccines are bad for you is total nonsense based on pseudo-science. He said that vaccines can lead to Alzheimer's, which is total bullshit propagated by some quack who lost his medical license. Maher also believes in the silly debunked "terrain theory, " which is as laughable as creationism.
Maher is just as anti-science as the people he makes fun of, which makes him a fucking hypocrite and an asshole. You're a moronic "true believer" who hangs by every word this moron says, which makes you a fucking fag. Bwahahahahaha, loser! Maher probably believes Jenny McCarthy's drivel about vaccines causing autism, too. Lol.
P.S. Maher is also a PETA whackjob who believes beer is healthier than milk and opposes animal testing, which is important for science. What a fucking idiot!
The way I see it is that Bush was bad for out of control spending, but he's not running anymore. The GOP now seems to support spending cuts. Meanwhile, Obama's stimulus failed. That's why I support the GOP now.
@somewhatlongdong hold on man im talking about Edgehead10075.. did you look at his page? its just random post all o\/er \/ids he could get some flack about.. frieldly fire all o\/er the place
there's nothing worse than those people who respond to humour with outrage. in addition to being a way of saying 'i have no sense of humour whatsoever' it also says 'i'm not clever or witty enough myself to respond so shame on you for being so much more clever and funny than i. how dare you!' elizabeth hasselbeck is such a bore.
GOP: Arrogant, greedy, corporate-funded assholes out for blood, not solutions. The President should not have to "invite" anyone to attend. He should ORDER these treasonous turds to get their lily white asses to the table and WORK for the tax money they "earn" (yeah, I had a hard time writing that.)
You cant call him chauvanistic and then in the same breath say you are conserned hes on your mind hinting that he wants to sleep with you, hes a comedian ffs and its just a shame the best most accurate social comentators in the US at the moment are comedians. Greatings from communist /secular/ ok Islamist europe!
Nonsense. Obama is a shitty president who's wrong on practically everything, and the Republicans are doing a good thing by fighting him. His numbers are in the toilet now.
@Edgehead10075: I hope you are rich, because that is only who the GOP supports. They divide us on abortion, religion, gay rights, just to name a few. They know that if they keep us fighting among ourselves, then we cannot see their hands in our pockets robbing the American middle class. The rich know if the American unite then their thriving was are over.
Well, by your logic, the Democrats also divide us on abortion, religion, gay rights, etc., since they are totally monolithic on those issues.
How are the Republicans "robbing" the middle class?
See, you libs see everything in terms of rich vs. poor. You guys are jealous of rich people. Not all Americans think like that, and we're never going to have a communist revolution in this nation where we punish all the "bad" rich guys.
@Edgehead10075: Can't you see that the Rich want all the money. Can't you see the GOP want no tax increases on the rich while cutting Government spending. Just where is that money comming from? The GOP want to end Medicare and Social Security, just who will that hurt? Heck the GOP want the rich to set on the jobs, just so they can destroy the President. THEY REFUSE TO HELP AMERICANS WITH JOBS, JUST SO THEY CAN USE IT TO DESTROY OUR PRESIDENT.
Any economist will tell you that during a recession the Government should spend money, that's just how it works. These politicians should be listening to actual professionals, people knowledgeable about economics, not Rush Limbaugh.
@Deepbluhuntr , Actually they didn't spend enough in the stimulus, a great deal of it was tax cuts, not actual spending. Economics is economics, there aren't two alternate realities, there's no liberal economics and conservative economics.
@Edgehead10075: Nothing is wrong with cutting government spending. I just wonder where were they while George W. Bush was having his pending spee? Dude the GOP wants to cut entitlements (Medicare and social security). The rich few and the GOP are in bed with each other, the GOP knows if unemployment drops then the GOP will lose a major tool in its attack against Obama. Obama is going to come out with a job bill, the GOP are already against it. It has not even been relaeased yet.

@Edgehead10075 I did not say that I was in love with Obama so you get over it.

Neither should Maher. Lol.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 nah man he was just rated the 38th greatest stand up comedian of all-time but nah he cant be funny...
raizin8 5 months ago
Rated by WHOM? He's not funny, and of course he gets points with the "experts" because he bashes Republicans. He's also a complete idiot.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 nah only comedy central rated him as 38th so ye they wouldnt know what they're talking about....
raizin8 5 months ago
So because they run a comedy station, they must automatically know what good comedy is? Lol. Why did they air Saturday Night Live all those years then? Lol. That was good. I'm much funnier than Bill Maher.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 ye your funnier then Bill Maher, thats why anyone knows who the fuck you are....
raizin8 5 months ago
A lot of people are funnier than Bill Maher, not just me. Most people off the street are funnier than Maher. He has virtually zero talent; all he does is just insult conservatives. His father was also in show business, so he had connections. The guy's a loser and a moron. He has a job because he hates Republicans.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Maher is a fucking disgrace who's a misogynist against female conservatives.

@Edgehead10075 Bill Maher is a pretty intellectual person. He doesn't appeal to the right when it comes to humor because his comedy comes from making fun of the anti-intellectual, bull shit that the right dishes out.
BigTimeStein1 3 months ago
No, he's not intellectual. He doesn't believe in vaccines, and he thinks that the life of an animal is equal to that of a human being. He's a moron, so get your fucking facts straight, ya cunt. He appeals to hateful, bitter people such as yourself.
Edgehead10075 3 months ago
@Edgehead10075
Really, followed him for years and never seen the not believe in vaccines, and he thinks that the life of an animal is equal to that of a human being. Maybe you should get your facts straight.
lakers0111 3 months ago
Well then you haven't paid enough attention to him. You can search "Bill Maher vaccines" on the net and come up with tons of shit, so you're just lazy.
Maher is a board member of PETA, and that's exactly what PETA believes regarding animals. He's also against animal testing yet supports embryonic stem cell research. He's a fucking idiot.
Edgehead10075 3 months ago
@Edgehead10075 Obviously you need to get your facts straight, because you seem pretty fucking bitter and he doesn't appeal to you... thats because he appeals to sensible, level headed people that realize that people on the far right and the republican candidates are just crazy.
BigTimeStein1 3 months ago
If we look at what the teabaggers and republicans did with the debt ceiling it becomes obvious that they have become the "sleeper cell" of al-qaeda that we were all so worried about. These people have no interest in helping to improve things in this country. They only want to help the rich and the wealthy that don't need help. Where is the Christian ideal of helping the poor?
BramSLI1 5 months ago 15
Evidently you don't see the national debt as a major issue, but many people do. Now you can argue that the Republicans are being hypocritical because they didn't make a big deal about it when Bush was president, but it's another thing to say that they're wrong. Comparing fiscal responsibility to Al Qaeda is just silly.
You say that they have no interest in improving things, but that's just not true. The Republicans don't believe that all of this spending by Obama is going to solve things.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
So far, the big spending HASN'T solved anything. How has all of this spending helped the poor? The economy is still terrible.
Why do liberals bring up Christianity when they're for separation between church and state? Besides, the GOP is not against a basic safety net for the poor, but they are against unbridled spending.
If you want to get technical, the Bible is all about personal giving, not government giving.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@BramSLI1 - apparently "Feed the Poor" and "Heal the Sick" wasn't really * what Jesus said. Tax Cuts for the Rich was really what Jesus wanted ;)

HAHAHA Like Bush said, Fool me once and shame on me, fool me twice and...aahh fool can't get fooled twice except if you are GOP Supporter.
snowonweb 5 months ago
Yawn. Can you cite any sources to back up your statistics?
Here's a sound argument; THE STIMULUS FAILED. Obama's finished. Now it's time for you to deal with reality. Obama could only fool Americans ONCE, although he's fooled you many times over.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
How do you know who's a "hick" or a "hillbilly"? I live on the west coast.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 then you should be ok. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish hillbilly and hick just by looking at them, but once they start talking you will recognize it right away. As far as difference between hick and hillbilly, well hillbillies live ion the hills mostly Appalachian and hicks live more west.

Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 okay, if Obama's finished then you can have your precious Michelle Bachmann & Sarah Palin ruin the country far worse, bwahahahahahahahaa! I'm talking about Elizabeth, not Maher, you fuckin' douche bag. This video is about Hasselback talking about Maher & Maher responding.

@Edgehead10075 did you know your pal Romney wants Dick Cheney to be his Vice President if he's elected? That should end well.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
Where the hell did you hear that? There's zero chance of Cheney being the GOP nominee's running mate.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 check it out, that's what Romney said.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
Can you cite your source?
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 new york daily news, he says that Cheney has all the qualities he's looking for in an Vice President and he even sings Cheney's praises.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
That doesn't mean he's actually going to pick Cheney. Cheney's retired anyway.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 yeah but Cheney would be horrible, was horrible and he STILL sings his praises.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 sure, he's retired but he's basicially saying if he had the chance, he would pick Cheney or someone who had all Cheney's qualities.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
Did someone ask Romney about Cheney, or did Romney bring him up? If he was asked, he might just be showing loyalty to a fellow Republican in Cheney; what he said probably means nothing, though.
Speaking of Cheney, he says that Hillary should challenge Obama. That would be VERY interesting, but I don't think that she will.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 no he brought Cheney up. I don't think she would or should challenge Obama. He's got enough problems, that would be the LAST thing he needs.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
HE doesn't need it, but maybe SHE does. Her poll numbers are very high, much higher than Obama's. She could beat him AND the GOP nominee. She certainly has a better chance of doing that than Obama.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 if Hillary does challenge Obama and wins, the same thing happening with Obama will happen to her guaranteed.
PrimeTimeJokesta 5 months ago
It depends on whether or not she can separate herself from Obama. Her approval ratings are very high, though.

Actually Maher is an idiot who thinks that vaccines are a conspiracy, you fucking moron. Maher is just a stupid liberal jackass.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
@Edgehead10075 Actually his stance on vaccines is to not take the one's for bullshit diseases like swine flu which poses no real threat.
amarmirza08 5 months ago
And his stance is total bullshit not based on science. The benefits of taking a flu vaccine FAR outweigh the risks, and some people, including the elderly, have died from the swine flu. Maher's belief that vaccines are bad for you is total nonsense based on pseudo-science. He said that vaccines can lead to Alzheimer's, which is total bullshit propagated by some quack who lost his medical license. Maher also believes in the silly debunked "terrain theory, " which is as laughable as creationism.
Edgehead10075 5 months ago
Maher is just as anti-science as the people he makes fun of, which makes him a fucking hypocrite and an asshole. You're a moronic "true believer" who hangs by every word this moron says, which makes you a fucking fag. Bwahahahahaha, loser! Maher probably believes Jenny McCarthy's drivel about vaccines causing autism, too. Lol.
P.S. Maher is also a PETA whackjob who believes beer is healthier than milk and opposes animal testing, which is important for science. What a fucking idiot!

Edgehead10075 5 months ago
The way I see it is that Bush was bad for out of control spending, but he's not running anymore. The GOP now seems to support spending cuts. Meanwhile, Obama's stimulus failed. That's why I support the GOP now.

GOP: Arrogant, greedy, corporate-funded assholes out for blood, not solutions. The President should not have to "invite" anyone to attend. He should ORDER these treasonous turds to get their lily white asses to the table and WORK for the tax money they "earn" (yeah, I had a hard time writing that.)

hiiamrick 6 months ago
Nonsense. Obama is a shitty president who's wrong on practically everything, and the Republicans are doing a good thing by fighting him. His numbers are in the toilet now.
Edgehead10075 6 months ago
@Edgehead10075: I hope you are rich, because that is only who the GOP supports. They divide us on abortion, religion, gay rights, just to name a few. They know that if they keep us fighting among ourselves, then we cannot see their hands in our pockets robbing the American middle class. The rich know if the American unite then their thriving was are over.
hiiamrick 6 months ago
Well, by your logic, the Democrats also divide us on abortion, religion, gay rights, etc., since they are totally monolithic on those issues.
How are the Republicans "robbing" the middle class?
See, you libs see everything in terms of rich vs. poor. You guys are jealous of rich people. Not all Americans think like that, and we're never going to have a communist revolution in this nation where we punish all the "bad" rich guys.
Edgehead10075 6 months ago
@Edgehead10075: Can't you see that the Rich want all the money. Can't you see the GOP want no tax increases on the rich while cutting Government spending. Just where is that money comming from? The GOP want to end Medicare and Social Security, just who will that hurt? Heck the GOP want the rich to set on the jobs, just so they can destroy the President. THEY REFUSE TO HELP AMERICANS WITH JOBS, JUST SO THEY CAN USE IT TO DESTROY OUR PRESIDENT.
hiiamrick 6 months ago
What's wrong with cutting government spending? It's a fact that we spend too much.
The GOP doesn't want to end Medicare and Social Security. Who told you that?
Why would rich people want to deny jobs? People having jobs actually helps the rich make more money.
Edgehead10075 6 months ago
@Edgehead10075 ,
Any economist will tell you that during a recession the Government should spend money, that's just how it works. These politicians should be listening to actual professionals, people knowledgeable about economics, not Rush Limbaugh.
Deepbluhuntr 6 months ago
Wrong. Any LIBERAL economist will tell you that. It didn't work when Obama did it.
Edgehead10075 6 months ago
@Deepbluhuntr , Actually they didn't spend enough in the stimulus, a great deal of it was tax cuts, not actual spending. Economics is economics, there aren't two alternate realities, there's no liberal economics and conservative economics.
Deepbluhuntr 6 months ago
@Edgehead10075: Nothing is wrong with cutting government spending. I just wonder where were they while George W. Bush was having his pending spee? Dude the GOP wants to cut entitlements (Medicare and social security). The rich few and the GOP are in bed with each other, the GOP knows if unemployment drops then the GOP will lose a major tool in its attack against Obama. Obama is going to come out with a job bill, the GOP are already against it. It has not even been relaeased yet.
