So when are we going to see the americans catching on to this idea? I'm more a fan of the US steam myself and something along the lines of a Niaghara, J611, GS4 Daylight or other large engine would suffice to house the working innards.
I'm not particulary careful about my engines, I only own two stationary ones and they've both seen heavy use and not much maintainance, yet they run like clockwork. If I had one of those toys it'd be very dirty and grimy after a while. But I like them dirty. ;)
Hi (Same person as N.Clip' here, different account)
In theory, yes you do. I just about got away without one but anything larger than that would require a booster. Trouble is, the manual isn't very clear on how to do it. I guess it can be done in the same way you would wire an opposing point.
I made the video for the sole intention to educate those who are starting out. It may not be particularly great, but when I bought my Live Steam stuff there was no information to take away the "jitters" so to sprak.
The oil does self lubricate, just 5ml or so every few steamings helps it on its way. The loco's are surprisingly hassle free too, a bit of cleaning is only neeeded every now and then, just with a few cotton buds around the bottom of the loco.
I seem to be putting more oil then you, I put what is stated in the manual. I might be adding to much, I will remove and clean out the oil res and try the same amount as you. See if I can get the thing running in forwards as well as it does in reverse.
For each steaming, fill the tender right up until the water comes out of the overflow. Put the needle right into the tender too, otherwise none will go in. For the purposes of the video, I only showed the second syringe.
Oil varies - the amoun they reccoment is fine for the first 'steaming', but after that, it only needs topping up after every couple of runs.
Beautiful engine. I wish they made an American style Mikado or Pacific.

The Instruction manual is a little vague -
For each steaming, fill the tender right up until the water comes out of the overflow. Put the needle right into the tender too, otherwise none will go in. For the purposes of the video, I only showed the second syringe.

Hope this helps.
