I cannot translate or completely understand what she says,BUT, ive heard the words and phrases so many times that i do not feel completly lost as to what she is trying to connvey. When I was small (About 10 years ago? I was about 10 years old) I was a heavy TV watcher. But the thing was that I looked at German TV, where cartoons were aired (And Anime's as well. I got my torque from there.).. When I stopped watching those German dubbed cartoons, I could understand everything that my german friends talked about.
Only the talking in the language yourself is hard, but understanding is important.

Does anybody know what the difference is between -kun -san -sama -chan etc? Those are usually used at the end of a Person's Name... But what's the Purpose, and the Meaning of all of them? And why are First and Last Names Backwards?
I can tell your vocabulary isn't very large yet, since my vocab isn't very large and I can understand most of what you are saying. I'm impressed with your understanding though since although I can understand a lot I have trouble producing the sentences and speaking it myself. I wouldn't have thought it would be possible with anime as a sole source but maybe it's because I don't watch much. I'm still weary about picking up bad habits that might be hard to get rid of.
Even if you can learn Japanese using anime, the problem is the Japanese you'll be learning is 'anime-style' Japanese. One point that comes up again and again is that anime speech is very different to everyday Japanese. That said, there's nothing wrong with having it as ONE of your sources of Japanese (a wide variety of different circumstances for the language is good), but it should be combined with all sorts of others sources like podcasts, drama, movies, TV, radio, etc...
@MarcDragon The idea of learning by immersion (and not by formal study) is a sound one though. Trying to understand the ins and outs of a language and learning by grammar rules and all that sort of stuff isn't the way to go in my opinion. Learning in a Japanese immersive environment of books and media however allows you to become accustomed to the language like a native would.

They think anime is all slang and nonsense. Have you ever read a Batman or Superman comic? Isn't most of the dialogue in those comic books completely normal English?? For example, learn Japanese from Naruto only (without other sources) and you might end all your sentences with dattebayo. Include other sources and you'll avoid this.
It's not the same. English doesn't have verb and adjective endings that change depending on how polite you want to be like japanese does. Japanese changes A LOT more depending on who your speaking to than english does. So learning japanese from anime is not the same as learning english from batman. English is pretty much the same in most situations, Japanese isn't. Shounen especially seems to almost always uses either the most informal or shortest version of a verb or phrase.
one other thing is that Japanese also changes depending on whether you are male or female which English doesn't really do. Learning through anime will probably have you sounding like a tough teenage male.

@ShinNoKurayami You can't use motsu as the verb. "motsu" implies that you posses something personally. You must use Aru as the verb. And if your teacher is the Japanese instructor it's nihongo not nihonjin. boku wa nihongo no sensei ga arimasu. The sentence you wrote is strange and awkward.

Also yeah I tend to mix that up and add the "jin" for the use of people so I get confused as to when 日本語 and 日本人 can be used.

The only thing you got down was the accent which is a good start. however the rest was gaijin status. you keep using desu a lot. and you cant learn from anime. you'll sound plain out retarded. if you reall want to become more better, study the kansai dialect.

Watching anime definitely definitely helps. A lot of people say that you can't learn from anime, but you can! BUT that should not be the only source. I usually watch an episode or two of anime a day, but then I also watch some Japanese online videos, and write in Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji for a half hour. This is because they sadly don't offer Japanese at my school :(

And WHILE you're learning Kanji, listen to Japanese all throughout the day. Even if it's Naruto. Visit Japanese websites ONLY, read anything in Japanese. Use a dictionary. Write out the sentences. You get what I'm saying now? If you listen to Japanese all the time for a month, your Japanese will improve by leaps and bounds.

If you listen and read, and become exposed to a language long enough. You will pick it up naturally without having to learn grammar. You will speak the way they do.
Because children learn faster and pick up language more easily than adults do. Their brains are still maturing, so they take up information quickly as they grow.
As an adult, you need more sources to learn a new language or else it will take you way longer to learn it. Also, a 6 year old can get away with bad grammar simply because he's 6. And remember that if you grew up with a language, of course you will be near perfect with it. Your brain matured while learning it.

The hours and exposure are the difference. Not who can learn faster. And as an adult, you're smart enough to know what to do, where to get those sources you speak of
A child's brain is different from an adult brain. Even if an adult listens to a language for 40,000 hours, the information stored is LESS than a child's.
Classes are there to correct your mistakes and to clarify what you don't understand. Even if it's an hour a day, it's still up to the student to study on his own, isn't it? Like you said, an adult is smart enough to find the sources. But you can't change the fact that in 2 years, a child will have learned more than an adult.
Exposure is indeed important. That, I won't deny. I'm also self-learning Japanese (my third language) and I'm trying to get as much exposure as I can (penpals, blogging, etc.). But I want to point out that grammar is still important, and a child's learning process cannot be compared to an adult's. An adult needs way more effort than a child to learn a new language even with full exposure.
Japanese is my 5th language. I've heard that the more languages you know, the easier it is to learn more. It also depends on people; some people just learn faster. I've always been good with languages. Grammar? I know nothing about grammar rules. I just have my intuition... "that feels like its wrong, this feels right etc". You know what I mean?

You don't know grammar rules? I'm sure you know if a word is an action word or a descriptive word. When I say that grammar is important, it doesn't mean knowing what a noun is or what a verb is, etc. It's knowing when to use the words, how to use the words, and expressing with those words. Your "intuition" is already a "familiarity with grammar" seeing as you already know five languages.
Speaking of which, I'm sure you learned Japanese not PURELY from anime. You had some outside sources as well. Like youtube videos, books, or something.
I mean, I know anime is useful as a supplement. (though I prefer dramas and live actions more. Lol. They sound more natural that way)
@marillblu well you're right, I started listening to j-rock after 1-2 years. But I could already understand Japanese by then. NOWADAYS If I posted a new video I wouldn't be able to say it's all thanks to anime anymore, since I've been to Japan and I speak a way better Japanese than by the time I posted this video. But the first time I went to Japan I was able to communicate with the people, though they told me I speak weird "cartoon language" but they understood me :D
@marillblu hehee they use pretty bad language in live actions too though.. but there are some drama animes where they speak "correctly". it depends on what kinda anime ur watching. yeah ive gotten better, i speak fluent hakata dialect now ;D

I don't doubt that you learnt all that Japanese from watching a hell of an amount of Anime. However, if you're serious about learning the language, you should take classes. You just wouldn't be able to learn all the verb/adjective conjugations if you did otherwise. Your Japanese is okay; you seem to know (and overuse) a lot of common phrases. You also use a lot of slang in general. Which is okay, but you really should also learn polite speech. Overall I am impressed with your feat. Nice work!

In ANY Japanese literature (manga, textbook, 小説、新聞） There is proper grammar with all the わ、に、や、へ、とか、だ、です、がざる。 It doesn't matter what you use, as long as you use it long enough you will be fluent. Textbook, in my opinion, are just too basic and too formulaic. And, there's English all over the place in those books.

@mouwakannaiyo I think it would be more accurate to tell people that anime can be a language learning tool, but only up to an extent. Eventually you WILL have to consult actual teachers and textbooks to learn proper grammar, keigo, WRITING, etc.
The point is, you can watch as much anime as you want and you will learn a surprising amount just from sheer exposure to the language. But it's not even close to enough if you want to actually have a functioning knowledge in daily life.
@SpiritG0d good luck. japanese has literally different words for polite,humble,honorific speach and you would have to have absolutely no life to do it. there are articles the word order is completely different words are constantly omitted, voicless consonants. its mora timed, there is pitch accent, irregular verbs multiple tenses. jus get a book and it will save you alot of time. anime will help tho true.

The only thing you got down was the accent which is a good start. however the rest was gaijin status. you keep using desu a lot. and you cant learn from anime. you'll sound plain out retarded. if you reall want to become more better, study the kansai dialect.

日本語は本当にとても上手ですが、アニメで使う日本語と現実での日本語はちょっと違うと思います。実はアルゼンチン人で、アルゼンチンで１年間日本人と一緒に住んでいました。昔私もアニメとドラマをよくみました。でも、今はアニメというより、もっとリアルな日本語を勉強しています。もちろん、アニメとドラマはとても楽しいだけど。勉強をするために、ほかの方法もありますね。例えば、スカイプで日本人と一緒にチャットをするとか、日本人の恋人と付き合うとかなどです。 後はとてもいいサイトをお勧めたいです。
まずはLangー8.comです。
このサイトで日本語で文章を書いたら、日本人のネイティブが直します。
その後はAnki、このサイトに漢字を覚えるソフトがダウンロードすることができます。このソフトで言葉だけでなく、言葉の使い方もならうことができます。
とにかく、日本語はとてもうまいです、頑張ってください。

Watching anime definitely definitely helps. A lot of people say that you can't learn from anime, but you can! BUT that should not be the only source. I usually watch an episode or two of anime a day, but then I also watch some Japanese online videos, and write in Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji for a half hour. This is because they sadly don't offer Japanese at my school :(

@Sakutarou11 I'm SAYING, you don't need to go to class, pay 500 bucks just for all that stuff. I suggest you learn Kanji first, that's the most important thing. And WHILE you're learning Kanji, listen to Japanese all throughout the day. Even if it's Naruto. Visit Japanese websites ONLY, read anything in Japanese. Use a dictionary. Write out the sentences. You get what I'm saying now? If you listen to Japanese all the time for a month, your Japanese will improve by leaps and bounds.

First of all, I could care less about comicon or whatever this culture or that culture you're spewing out of your mouth. I'm just trying to tell you the FASTEST way in learning a language, which is full immersion. For most people who are NOT in Japan, a way of full immersion IS to have Japanese ON for the whole day, whether it is Anime, or Japanese news through youtube, or any other media.

If you listen and read, and become exposed to a language long enough. You will pick it up naturally without having to learn grammar. You will speak the way they do.

Because children learn faster and pick up language more easily than adults do. Their brains are still maturing, so they take up information quickly as they grow.
As an adult, you need more sources to learn a new language or else it will take you way longer to learn it. Also, a 6 year old can get away with bad grammar simply because he's 6. And remember that if you grew up with a language, of course you will be near perfect with it. Your brain matured while learning it.

Now, a person who takes Japanese classes listens to how many hours of Japanese?

The hours and exposure are the difference. Not who can learn faster. And as an adult, you're smart enough to know what to do, where to get those sources you speak of

A child's brain is different from an adult brain. Even if an adult listens to a language for 40,000 hours, the information stored is LESS than a child's.
Classes are there to correct your mistakes and to clarify what you don't understand. Even if it's an hour a day, it's still up to the student to study on his own, isn't it? Like you said, an adult is smart enough to find the sources. But you can't change the fact that in 2 years, a child will have learned more than an adult.

Exposure is indeed important. That, I won't deny. I'm also self-learning Japanese (my third language) and I'm trying to get as much exposure as I can (penpals, blogging, etc.). But I want to point out that grammar is still important, and a child's learning process cannot be compared to an adult's. An adult needs way more effort than a child to learn a new language even with full exposure.

Japanese is my 5th language. I've heard that the more languages you know, the easier it is to learn more. It also depends on people; some people just learn faster. I've always been good with languages. Grammar? I know nothing about grammar rules. I just have my intuition... "that feels like its wrong, this feels right etc". You know what I mean?

You don't know grammar rules? I'm sure you know if a word is an action word or a descriptive word. When I say that grammar is important, it doesn't mean knowing what a noun is or what a verb is, etc. It's knowing when to use the words, how to use the words, and expressing with those words. Your "intuition" is already a "familiarity with grammar" seeing as you already know five languages.

I mean, I know anime is useful as a supplement. (though I prefer dramas and live actions more. Lol. They sound more natural that way)

@marillblu well you're right, I started listening to j-rock after 1-2 years. But I could already understand Japanese by then. NOWADAYS If I posted a new video I wouldn't be able to say it's all thanks to anime anymore, since I've been to Japan and I speak a way better Japanese than by the time I posted this video. But the first time I went to Japan I was able to communicate with the people, though they told me I speak weird "cartoon language" but they understood me :D

I don't doubt that you learnt all that Japanese from watching a hell of an amount of Anime. However, if you're serious about learning the language, you should take classes. You just wouldn't be able to learn all the verb/adjective conjugations if you did otherwise. Your Japanese is okay; you seem to know (and overuse) a lot of common phrases. You also use a lot of slang in general. Which is okay, but you really should also learn polite speech. Overall I am impressed with your feat. Nice work!

In ANY Japanese literature (manga, textbook, 小説、新聞） There is proper grammar with all the わ、に、や、へ、とか、だ、です、がざる。 It doesn't matter what you use, as long as you use it long enough you will be fluent. Textbook, in my opinion, are just too basic and too formulaic. And, there's English all over the place in those books.

You're absolutely right that immersion is key to learning a language - watching anime is far from immersion. @mouwakannaiyo I think it would be more accurate to tell people that anime can be a language learning tool, but only up to an extent. Eventually you WILL have to consult actual teachers and textbooks to learn proper grammar, keigo, WRITING, etc.
The point is, you can watch as much anime as you want and you will learn a surprising amount just from sheer exposure to the language. But it's not even close to enough if you want to actually have a functioning knowledge in daily life.

@SpiritG0d good luck. japanese has literally different words for polite,humble,honorific speach and you would have to have absolutely no life to do it. there are articles the word order is completely different words are constantly omitted, voicless consonants. its mora timed, there is pitch accent, irregular verbs multiple tenses. jus get a book and it will save you alot of time. anime will help tho true.

違和感が全然なくて、日本語としてすごく自然です。

凄く上手ですね。びっくりしました。秋葉原によく行く、というかそのために日本に来たのではないかと思われる留学生の友人（南米出身）がいますが、彼もアニメから入って今ではペラペラです。細かいところはやはり日本人話者に直してもらう必要がありますが、結構高いレベルまで行けるのではないでしょうか。

私もフィンランドは一度オーロラ体験ツアーで行った事があります。けど観る前にトナカイが引っ張るソリに乗ったら、トナカイ大暴走・・・。骨折してオーロラを観る事も無く、泣く泣く日本に帰って来た情けない記憶があります。。。

ということです。
もうひとつ大事なことはmouwakannaiyoさんは語学の天才だということです。

アニメで十分喋れるようになると思います
漢字があるから読み書きはかなり難しいけどね
それよりも難しいのが日本の雰囲気を察する事かな（予定調和とか）

アニメで日本語は習得できないことの反証にはなるますが、多くの人にお勧めできる方法ではありませんね。未だに私はまるでシャアがはなしてるみたいと言われます。
