the scene of jordan celebrating and ehlo collapsing on the floor wasn't shown on tv at the time. does anyone know where people got to see it for the first time?
@gaosuwind I was just about to comment on this. Can't believe they decided to show the coach running around like a baffoon instead of Jordan in his most iconic celebration ever!
Loved watching these Cavs back in the day!!! I thought that this was gonna be the Cleveland team that wins it all! But MJ just killed us! Watching this live....that shot was in the air for what seemed like forever. But it went in. Fast forward 2009, that was when LeBron was supposed to win it and be the hero. Well his shot against Orlando in Game 2 had the same feel after Turkoglu hit the jumper, but LeBron nailed "The Shot 2.0" I'm still waiting for a Cleveland championship.
I remember this so vividly to this day, 22 years later. Why? because I WAS THERE!! I was standing in the lower bowl in the top left corner(as you're looking at it on this clip, but out of camera range), and i remember screaming "NO!!!" as he let the shot go. When that shot went in, all you could hear for 2 minutes was the Bulls team celebrating, and the few Bulls fans in the cheap seats screaming! One of the most painful experiences of my childhood!
I Miss the good old days, basketball now is a joke. NO Defense, and Players are overrated.. Kobe is probably the best now but has never played against real DEFENSE like the 80's pistons and 90's Knicks...
People don't realize how talented this particular Cleveland Cavs squad was. They were legitimate favorites to reach the Finals that year. And then #23 pulls the rug out from under them and condemns their city to even more crushing failure...
In the 1988-89, MJ played the greatest basketball this league has EVER seen. He had 11 triple doubles in a month, including 7 straight. He hit "the shot"...averaged 32.5 pts, 8.0 reb, 8.0 ast, 3.0 steals on 54% shooting. And did NOT win mvp! Its hilarious to see Kobe mentioned with the guy, when MJ has 5 mvps, and his 89 season was clearly better than Kobe's only MVP season and he still didn't win it. Yeah..U can do that when U return the CORE of the title team from the previous year, plus add Kukoc, Kerr & 7 other new players, so please, get some perspective on the matter B4 posting dumb comments like that.
"What was Jordan doing as a rookie?"
Leading his team in scoring, rebs, assists & steals & Total Win Shares, so how could he have avg'd only 2apg as you're so DUMB to have said?
And MJ's avg for assists in '86 was skewed, due to him missing 64 games with a broken foot U fuckin idiot!
Please go get some perspective on the game B4 U post!
If U don't know what the hell you're talkin' about, please shut up & go back to playing with your x-box or guitar hero or something kid, and leave the basketball commentary to those of us who saw MJ in his prime, and have some historical perspective on the matter..
Sarcastic remarks are a GLARING indicator that U have NO "factual" rebuttal.
U say MJ was a ball hog? Who was it that set the record for MOST assists per game (11apg) in the '91 Finals by a NON pt guard vs Magic of all people? Who was it when moved to the pt guard spot for the last 23 games of the '89 season, got 15 triple doubles?
To put that into perspective, Magic's BEST season TO DATE in terms of # of triple doubles in a season is 18..MJ almost bested that in 20+ games LOL!!
No, I got the point you were making, it's just laughably bad. Jordan WAS a ballhog. A great ballhog, but a ballhog nonetheless. I just find it amusing when Jordan homers try to point to that sample of games from 1989 as proof that MJ had the playmaking capabilities of Magic (not saying that's what you did, but it's implied).
How the fuck can he be a ball hog when he LED Chicago in assists as a rookie?
B4 his Wizard yrs brought down some of his career avg's, his apg avg as a Bull was 6 a game, but even with that said, his career apg avg is STILL HIGHER than Pippen's, so do U consider him a ball hog too?
Lemme guess, U probably do huh?
MJ has "3" 500+ assists seasons, and a 600+ assist season as 2-guard!
Ball hogs don't do that, so WTF are U talkin' about?!!
"not saying that's what you did, but it's implied"...um..by making that implication..you ARE saying that's what he said.
How does not having the passing of magic = ballhog? MJ was just as good, probably better "playmaker" in the general sense. Playmaking means finding the most efficient means of scoring, not deferring to others at every chance.
How exactly was MJ a ballhog when he was averaging 6-7 assists in his prime on the Bulls? Are PGs the only non-ballhogs?
@TommyTonic10 michael jordan was not a ball hog! he had some of the most amazing passes ive ever seen. he wanted to improve each and every aspect of his game. he didnt like how everybody knew him for his offense. he wanted ppl to know him for more than his amzing shots. so he worked very hard on defense and passing and it payed off. his defense was amzing and his passes were as well
@10lionelmessisgod10 He actually was a ball hog dude except for one season when he averaged 8 assist a game..but yeah one season he only averaged 2 assist per game thats just sad lol. but yeah thats how it is im a SG for my team and im a ball hog too. Just because I drop dimes doesnt mean im not a ball hog. Especially in the 4th thats when I just takeover lol.
Look like @Squeemu said, LeBron has many years ahead of him, Jordan was the greatest player of all time, but LeBron is developing into that kind of player. If you look, Jordan broke his foot in his second season, but the Bulls still made the playoffs, do you think the if LeBron broke his the cavs would make it? No. Im not saying LeBron is even close to what Michael was, im just saying the if he keeps on the track he's currently on, he may become the closest thing to him.
Its not the quantity but quality! why do everyone keeps forgetting this. Lebron plays in watered down NBA era where today's many starters will sit on bench forever in '80s & '90s. Lebron will never see the calibre of ewing, robinson, stockton, malone, barkley, olayjawon type players. never. NBA is changed to european version NCAA league. No defense, 3- sec violation. Lebron is having it way too easy. MJ ave 32.5/8/8 for all 82 games in 1989. Lebron is struggling to ave 30ppg right now.
Jordan does have a better resume than kobe, more rings, mvps, etc. But that all doesn't really matter... They both impacted the game incredibly, what did lebron do?? I didnt know dunking hard and doing windmills meant you were the greatest player to play the game...
I'm 5’7 and dunking – crazy right? If you want to know how I did it, check out snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining - my little secret that I won’t be telling my H.S. teammates ;)
I dont know which "shot" was more heartbreaking. MJ's shot against the Cavs in 89 or Allan Houstons shot against the Heat in 99. I say Allan Houstons shot because the Knicks were an 8 seed and Miami was a 1 seed.
If it were not for Jordan, Lebron would not be what he is today. Jordan revolutionized the 'Game' in more ways than Lebron ever will. Lebron can only hope to scratch the surface of what mike did. The Celtics & Lakers gonna keep winning the titles for a while so Lebron's time is running out.
What is wrong with these announcers? Just in this amount of video, they are seeing 1)one of the best games in playoff history 2)some of Michael Jordan's best moves...they're acting like they're board: "Scooping it in Jordan" and "see ya later a left handed layup" in the most monotoned voices ever...are you kidding me get excited! This is Michael Jordan in his rubber band legs days when he could jump out of the building and he's putting on a show!
theres a very easy way to compare lebron and MJ. although their stats are very close, it comes down to rings between them. MJ has wat? 6? 7? correct me im wrong. lebron has how many? zero
i said it comes down to rings between MJ and Lebron since their stats are so close. i wasnt saying that as a general idea, that all players should be compared via championship rings
Jordan had a great team around him. Who does Lebron have? Also, Lebron has many years ahead of him in this league still. I'm not a Lebron fan but at least show a little objectivity.
i think i showed quite a bit of objectivity when i said that their stats were very close. thats the only reason i judged them upon rings. although MJ had great players around him, he was the one everyone remembered most. until lebron can get at least 1 ring, MJ is still on a different level when it comes to the "best player of all time" conversation.
@squeemu WHEN LEBRON gets 6 finals 6 finals mvp, 5 season mvps, 6 straight over 30+PPG seasons, have two 3 peats ,have the highest ppg average in history, 3rd all time leading scorer in nba history then ill give lebron credit what does he have a mvp thats nothing compared to jordan career
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah guys I think we are forgetting Lebron James is ................24 yrs old. lets see jordan here was 26. How many rings did he have. 0. How many mvps? 1. How many all-star mvps? 1. Lebron has 2 all-star mvps, 1 mvp, 0 rings. and he is 2 years younger. So stop comparing him to a guy with 16 or so yrs of NBA experience. In 10 years my son will be saying Lebron James is the greatest of all-time. So get use to it.
@tmacof93 we will never see that i think his skill will be reached but his achievements or whatever he did on the court will be hard to reach because people keep getting better not like in jordan's era when a few people had skills now or in the future it will be like playing all stars if u were to compared it with mj's era its not easy
can i just ask wat all star mvps have to do with abything an all star mvp is based on one basketball showcase game that is for the fans so all star mvps should not be taken into consideration
then think of this Jordans ROOKIE stats were better than lebrons stats have ever been and Jordan was up against a MUCH tougher defense against MUCH tougher players
This was Jordan's 4th or 5th season in the NBA, so I think it's fair to compare them right now, entering Lebron's 6th. I'm looking forward to this season's playoffs and see how he deals with a game 7 like this one, specially now with Shaq on his side. For this playoffs series Pippen was there. Anyway 39 ppg, 6 r and 8 ass is too much to ask from anyone even MJ. Lebron is talented but I don't feel his hunger like in Kobe or Magic. By the way Magic won it as a rookie in game 7 without Kareem!
Well, how hungry or killer did Kobe seem when he got the ball poked away by Dwight in game 3 of the Finals? How great did Kobe seem when he lost the ball to Turkoglu near the end of the fourth quarter in game 2?
well...lebron only been playin 6 yrs...in jordans 1st 6 yrs compared to lebron lebron beat jordan in fg% 1 time 3p% 5 times and avg ppg once unless u count rebounds as important to stats jordan pretty much spanked lebron in all other stats when you compare them for both their 6 years also in jordans last season at age 39 compared to lebrons 1st jordan played less time and his stats were stil close to lebrons even though lebrons were only higher by a little it 2early to say lebron's the greatest
Jordan averaged 40 points in this series. He is the Cleveland killer just like Reggie Miller was the New York killer. In the 93 series though, the Cavs were swept so it wasn't that heartbreaking as the first time.
This is why basketball is atrocious today. Notice how Jordan had 1 yes ONE shooting foul called when he attacked the hoop in this video? Yeah watch the other 5 plays, and you'll notice that in todays game, if any contact similar to what Jordan took in those drives happened to LeChoke James, it would immediately be called a foul.
This shot is a million times better then that retarded toss it up and pray shot Queen James made in a meaningless series that they lost.
TheNBArobert is stupid. This shot that Michael hit was by far more important than LeBron's...Michael's shot was to advance in the playoffs and LeBron's was only in game 2 of the series. Think logically before you say stupid shit. Michael = G.O.A.T.
you know no matter what this was a great shot my dad was telling me how he was watching this game and how my grandpa almost had a stroke from this its sad we beat the bulls 5 times in the season and lost like this....... great shot by a great player
This is one of the reasons why Michael is considered the greatest. He's done this many times throughout his career. (It's even more EPIC how he made the game winning shot against Cleveland again when he was on the Wizards years later!) LEGENDARY PLAYER!
Ok everyone shut up about Lebron already. He isnt at Jordan's level yet, obviously, but I cant stand how ppl just hate him for no reason. Back in the 80s, no one shook hands after losses, just ask Boston or Detroit. And come on, Lebron had one of the greatest playoffs of all time, and took a team full of scrubs (including Mo) to 6 games with a much better Magic team. Give him a break.
The only difference is that Jordan did it to one of the best teams ever assembled. The Cavs were a great defensive team and one of the favorites to win it all. Labron's 1-second shot seem like a 5-second shot.lol Good shot though.
Does anyone know what the playoff seeds were here? The Pistons were probly the 1 seed, the Cavs could have been as high as the 2 seed but Im not sure. anyone know?
another thing people forget....if jordan misses that shot bulls lose....the player who put cavs ahead about 10 secs earlier....ehlo, but he will always be remembered as jordans puppet
man people forget about how good a team the Cavs had back then with Mark Price a deady scorer and shooter and all star , and daughtery an all star , larry nance all star , craig ehlo was one of the best 3 point shooters .... good memorys
People also forget that Ehlo actually played a great game. I think he had 15 points in the 4th quarter. All everyone remembers is him being unable to stop Jordan (like anyone really could).
Lebron got his ass served to him by the underdogs, the Magic. Tell him to come next year with some manners and then we might crown him with another title, rather than the "crying boy".
boy just think if the bulls did not have Jordan, the cavs would have been the Eastern Conference Champions and they probably would have won their 1st NBA Finals
according to webster, God is An image of a supernatural being; an idol. Therefore yes Michael Jordan is a God, and as far as there being only "one god" is debatable. Your logic has failed.

@blackadam06 FLUTE SOLO!!!
TommyTonic10 1 year ago
Sarcastic remarks are a GLARING indicator that U have NO "factual" rebuttal.
U say MJ was a ball hog? Who was it that set the record for MOST assists per game (11apg) in the '91 Finals by a NON pt guard vs Magic of all people? Who was it when moved to the pt guard spot for the last 23 games of the '89 season, got 15 triple doubles?
To put that into perspective, Magic's BEST season TO DATE in terms of # of triple doubles in a season is 18..MJ almost bested that in 20+ games LOL!!
blackadam06 1 year ago
@blackadam06 BUILDING KICK!!
TommyTonic10 1 year ago
All that, and he wound up trailing Magic by 110 triple doubles.
TheBrainMachine78 1 year ago
Sure he did, but that wasn't the point I was making, or are U too to slow to have missed that?
blackadam06 1 year ago
No, I got the point you were making, it's just laughably bad. Jordan WAS a ballhog. A great ballhog, but a ballhog nonetheless. I just find it amusing when Jordan homers try to point to that sample of games from 1989 as proof that MJ had the playmaking capabilities of Magic (not saying that's what you did, but it's implied).
TheBrainMachine78 1 year ago
How the fuck can he be a ball hog when he LED Chicago in assists as a rookie?
B4 his Wizard yrs brought down some of his career avg's, his apg avg as a Bull was 6 a game, but even with that said, his career apg avg is STILL HIGHER than Pippen's, so do U consider him a ball hog too?
Lemme guess, U probably do huh?
MJ has "3" 500+ assists seasons, and a 600+ assist season as 2-guard!
Ball hogs don't do that, so WTF are U talkin' about?!!
blackadam06 1 year ago
@TheBrainMachine78
PhanatixDDH 1 year ago 4
@TommyTonic10 michael jordan was not a ball hog! he had some of the most amazing passes ive ever seen. he wanted to improve each and every aspect of his game. he didnt like how everybody knew him for his offense. he wanted ppl to know him for more than his amzing shots. so he worked very hard on defense and passing and it payed off. his defense was amzing and his passes were as well
10lionelmessisgod10 1 year ago
@10lionelmessisgod10 He actually was a ball hog dude except for one season when he averaged 8 assist a game..but yeah one season he only averaged 2 assist per game thats just sad lol. but yeah thats how it is im a SG for my team and im a ball hog too. Just because I drop dimes doesnt mean im not a ball hog. Especially in the 4th thats when I just takeover lol.

shutthefuckuploser 1 year ago
Look like @Squeemu said, LeBron has many years ahead of him, Jordan was the greatest player of all time, but LeBron is developing into that kind of player. If you look, Jordan broke his foot in his second season, but the Bulls still made the playoffs, do you think the if LeBron broke his the cavs would make it? No. Im not saying LeBron is even close to what Michael was, im just saying the if he keeps on the track he's currently on, he may become the closest thing to him.
MrSoapGhost 2 years ago

This is Michael Jordan in his rubber band legs days when he could jump out of the building and he's putting on a show!
vaibanez17 2 years ago
theres a very easy way to compare lebron and MJ. although their stats are very close, it comes down to rings between them. MJ has wat? 6? 7? correct me im wrong. lebron has how many? zero
Gators543 2 years ago
Sort of like how Sasha Vujacic has more rings than Rashard Lewis? I know who I want knocking down open threes.
GrapeCheckerBoard 2 years ago
i said it comes down to rings between MJ and Lebron since their stats are so close. i wasnt saying that as a general idea, that all players should be compared via championship rings
Gators543 2 years ago
Jordan had a great team around him. Who does Lebron have? Also, Lebron has many years ahead of him in this league still. I'm not a Lebron fan but at least show a little objectivity.
squeemu 2 years ago
i think i showed quite a bit of objectivity when i said that their stats were very close. thats the only reason i judged them upon rings. although MJ had great players around him, he was the one everyone remembered most. until lebron can get at least 1 ring, MJ is still on a different level when it comes to the "best player of all time" conversation.
Gators543 2 years ago
@squeemu WHEN LEBRON gets 6 finals 6 finals mvp, 5 season mvps, 6 straight over 30+PPG seasons, have two 3 peats ,have the highest ppg average in history, 3rd all time leading scorer in nba history then ill give lebron credit what does he have a mvp thats nothing compared to jordan career

yeah guys I think we are forgetting Lebron James is ................24 yrs old. lets see jordan here was 26.
SIRYOUAREMISTAKEN 2 years ago
wait and see...but i think that in 10 years so many people will say "MJ is still the greatest of all-time"
tmacof93 2 years ago 37

Airman32292 2 years ago 4
ok wait..are u comparing MJ to lebron ?
r u high kidd ?
zeedeek 2 years ago
This was Jordan's 4th or 5th season in the NBA, so I think it's fair to compare them right now, entering Lebron's 6th. I'm looking forward to this season's playoffs and see how he deals with a game 7 like this one, specially now with Shaq on his side. For this playoffs series Pippen was there. Anyway 39 ppg, 6 r and 8 ass is too much to ask from anyone even MJ. Lebron is talented but I don't feel his hunger like in Kobe or Magic. By the way Magic won it as a rookie in game 7 without Kareem!
pinznrom 2 years ago
Well, how hungry or killer did Kobe seem when he got the ball poked away by Dwight in game 3 of the Finals? How great did Kobe seem when he lost the ball to Turkoglu near the end of the fourth quarter in game 2?
GrapeCheckerBoard 2 years ago
how hungry did he look winning his 4th ring? pretty hungry
Gators543 2 years ago
well...lebron only been playin 6 yrs...in jordans 1st 6 yrs compared to lebron lebron beat jordan in fg% 1 time 3p% 5 times and avg ppg once unless u count rebounds as important to stats jordan pretty much spanked lebron in all other stats when you compare them for both their 6 years also in jordans last season at age 39 compared to lebrons 1st jordan played less time and his stats were stil close to lebrons even though lebrons were only higher by a little it 2early to say lebron's the greatest
PhoenixEdwards 2 years ago
also in Mj's 1st four years he had more awards than lebron has had in his career so far which is 2 years longer

Debaser1104 2 years ago
True but later on in MJ's career, he started getting those same touch calls lebron and kobe get today.

TheNBArobert is stupid. This shot that Michael hit was by far more important than LeBron's...Michael's shot was to advance in the playoffs and LeBron's was only in game 2 of the series. Think logically before you say stupid shit. Michael = G.O.A.T.

This is one of the reasons why Michael is considered the greatest. He's done this many times throughout his career. (It's even more EPIC how he made the game winning shot against Cleveland again when he was on the Wizards years later!) LEGENDARY PLAYER!
NightScape707 2 years ago
Ok everyone shut up about Lebron already. He isnt at Jordan's level yet, obviously, but I cant stand how ppl just hate him for no reason. Back in the 80s, no one shook hands after losses, just ask Boston or Detroit. And come on, Lebron had one of the greatest playoffs of all time, and took a team full of scrubs (including Mo) to 6 games with a much better Magic team. Give him a break.
