I remember my OTR days, and pulling this hill with a Prostar and 10 speed. I was grossing at only 78K and was down to 6th by the top of the hill. that sucked. i bet if i had a 18 and some more ponies i would have made it no problem.
@MrMrcrain It will go fast but not good for the shit we do. It was geared for a highway truck, not something local pulling almost 100k and 3:55s with a 10 speed was horrible.
@Hotrodx199 Even out here on the flat prairies we don't like anything under 13 spds., and at least a 3.90 gears. Of course pulling super B's through fields and lease roads 18's are a must if you want to give the clutch a chance to live.
@Hotrodx199 I hear you ,maybe a 15 or a 15 OD ,dad had a 79 kw with a detroit and 15,heck you had to be runnin 79 to put it in the last gear, then it would step on out there about 90 mph.It had no proplem with about 90000 lbs of persimion logs.Got to say we had a 75 pete cummins,it would out pull it.The pete was built so hot it would throw raw fuel out of the pipes, and sit there and sound like a drag car
Gotta Love Catt Power!!!! nothin like Weighing good 95k With a Cat Still doin Work.. :) Cats Rule! Grate Video man. Thumps up if you Agree about the Cat Power!!!!
@Hotrodx199 Cummins are the Same as Detroits LoL They love the RPMS, Cats are pullers, Love the sounds of a CAT>..So much That I made a Chevy Truck into a bad ass Puller. I stuffed a Punched out 454T into the truck with a 4 spd 2 spd split ... I am running dual 4 in straight pipes. Lets just say my heavy 1 ton truck works just as well if not better then the New Chevys with the dura max diesels....
@motor86obsessed you can lug a 4 stroke like a cat or a cummins and even the newer detroits but not an old detroit 2 stroke you gotta make them scream to climb a hill
@ilangsfs It's really not that loud at all crusing the freeway @ 1200 rpms. Even on the hills, it doesn't have that drone you would think it has. If this was a cummins, it would be terrible i imagine.
Well it could be a 450 or a 475hp, but a truck that we sometimes drives that has a c12 in it which is factory at 430 will outpull this thing big time...
I ask a question cause my brother has a FLD-120 with a 475 cummins & I with him on summer vacation :D hes hauling 40 tons of wheat & climb the first half of this hill 65 mph. Second half on 55mph. Took a gear down cause water temp XD. But nice mph for what have
Great video. I drive a T-800 w/ a small c13 and 8 speed fuller. Would you have any idea why the Jakes don't seem to work as well as they used to? I used to be able to wake people up at night, now I barely hear them in the cab, and the jakes certainly don't have the same retarding power they did a hundred thousand miles ago. None of the shops have a clue.
That seems a little odd. I have no clue. Maybe the jakes are only working on one jake head instead of all 3. That's my only thought. That does seem odd.
@rngrchad the new engine brakes work different than the actual jacobs design. so you dont have the cool racket maker. new fire trucks have a transmission brake that slows the tranny. oh yeah ur talkin about same truck, you need to rebuilt the jakes. u can get a kit with springs and snap rings pretty cheap and if your a do it yourselfer its pretty easy.
it sounds like you need the overhead run on it. over time valves will get out of adjustment caused by normal wear of the engine like the cam lobes and rollers ect, and running the overhead (adjusting the valves, injector height, and jakes) will compensate for the normal wear thats going on inside your engine. most shops will run the over head for about 200 to 300 bucks. most over the road trucks have this done about every 100 to 150 thousand miles. so if your local might wanna do it more often.
Well he was going to do an 18 speed swap, but instead he is getting an 18 speed with a long hood peterbilt. Yes soon he won't be driving this anymore, he will be driving a 96 long hood peterbilt 379 N14 with dynaflex mufflers.
just like what i see on a mountain around here, i go sit and watch all the trucks chug the mountain, some come barking up the mountain others are quiet and boring, sounds good

@allispuller1952 The rpms were set to 1800 with the company that had this before, and with a 10 speed, it was terrible for climbing hills.

Aint no pipes on this truck it goes straight to the ground.

There are factory 5" dual stacks hiding behind chrome pipe guards on the cab.

I think cats sound best with 5 and 6" pipes. Any bigger then that they really start to quiet down. I would probably go with 6" stacks.
