Powerlifting use to be so beautiful. What the fck happened. All these shirts and wraps and bullshit music played at meets. It seriously looks like a circus act nowadays.
bench shirts, knee wraps, squat suits. seriously its a joke. I can see why this sport hasn't really evolved since the 80's. LIfters couldn't beat the raw records so they run to technology for help. lol bench shirts, i still can't stop laughing.
@matthewhortop OH MY GOD<THANK YOU!!!!!!, I am sick of the "power lifters" now days telling me that they bench 550 pounds, but without their suit, they can only get 315. It is so ridiculous. It is funny because I bench a solid Raw 435, and they say, oh thats ok, I bench a 600, you'll get there just keep working at it. But in all reality, my bench KILLS their real bench. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, Sorry, you got me on a tangent. At least Scott Mendleson got the record for bench in Raw and equipped.
@tastefulphrasing A bench shirt actually doesn't add that much, your statement is ridiculous. Although I agree that they shouldn't be used, it's not real. However, a very strong bencher with shirt, is also a very strong bencher without it.
@Tjockman Actually a bench shirt does a hell of a lot. I am not a Johnny come Lately to this subject. I have seen guys bench less then me without a shirt, then with a shirt they are benching over a hundred pounds more. That is a lot. Your statement is ridiculous. Have you ever felt a 3 or even 2 ply suit? Ive seen guys in suits that with over 500 pounds, they still couldn't touch their chest, they literally have to pull it down. Dont get me wrong, the lock out strength has to be strong.
@Tjockman But it is still not their true bench. Scott Mendleson . 715 with, over 1000 without. So dont tell me that it doesn't do a lot. Now if we are talking deadlift suits, that is a different story. I am not denying their strength, of course they are extremely strong, but it is not their real bench. That is like me saying I can dunk, but the hoop is only 8 feet tall. I've worn shirts, you can definitely feel it.
@tastefulphrasing It is relative, the shirts we use in sweden add like a 100 -150 tops. It isn't that much in my opinion. Maybe they use different stuff in different orgs, but 300ish is unheard of with the stuff we use. Then again we both state the same things. I, too, think they are ridiculous. Unfortunately they are needed in competition if you want to succeed, which suck of course, mainly because some gain a lot from it, some very, very little, even though the latter has a stronger raw.
Dead on the money, brother. I bench, raw and drug-free, about what you do, and I am tired of folks thinking a 400-plus press is somewhow "OK". I mean, has anyone ever pressed 500 or more raw AND drug-free? Likely not. That is a MASSIVE undertaking. Anyone pushing out over 400 pounds in this manner has a lot for which to be proud.
Powerlifting has entered into a very dark age with all the horseshit and equipment.
