lol we all get our ideas from someone elses work. Did Victor Wooten invent music theory? Because thats where he derives his note selections from and do you think Victor wooten invented slapping and tapping? Look at Abraham Laboriel. He plays with all 5 fingers not just 3. You also halfto remember that the electric bass is only like 60 years old and Larry Graham started this slap stuff for all of us to emulate. The point is Victor didnt invent the wheel hees just spinning it and the musical modes
Dont get me wrong Victor is great, it just so happens that there is a whole lot of great players out there. Especially today with the internet and people being able to build on what other players have done like Victor did with Larry Graham and everybody else that influenced him. I have played for 15 years and am fortunate enough to be exposed to people like Vic and Bill Dickens and many others who have instructional videos that show you how easy it is do these things with a bass guitar.
I have seen him live, it changed my musical life. I was a pretty good bass player before, but after that live experience with the flecktones, I had to step it up a notch...
Flea was a "god" to me when I was a teenager but that was before I opened myself to other types of music. IMO, he didn't do anything special since the mid-90's, he's only been playing the same licks over and over again.
Flea is great bass player but no where near the same as wooten man the guy can play more then just a funk beat like flea don't get me wrong people there both killer i just think wooten would rock him he plays by himself and sounds like a hole band somtimes lol ~
I like victor wooten. I love his solo's. I think he is one of the best basist (maybe the best), but DAMN! this solo is bad. By bad im mean really, really bad. I think that he should keep fretted bass.
if its just because you dont feel like playing the other part thats bullshit.
but hes looping because he is talented enough to do all of this by himself instead of some other bassists come and stand there and play the other parts

I think that the reason a fretless bass is harder for beginners is that most beginners don't have the ear training they need inorder to be able to hit the actual notes. The reason professionals can play fret less is that a good professional bass player like victor can play a whole song with his eyes closed all because he has had years of experience and knows what the next note from the current note he is playing should sound like.
Music is not a competition, music is not like football, or TV shows, music is not like olympic games. Music makes us free with creativity, and many other feelings. All musicians are winners. Music is not like dragon ball, Bigdj316 (I saw your favorites) ;)
