  • stand up bass comedy!

  • this is the first video i see vic playing a 5 string

  • @JohnSanchezBT its a clip around here some were of him playin a six string conklin!

  • @andreking84 Dam i have to find that video!!

  • @JohnSanchezBT yes he is playing a 6 string conklin

  • This is the first video of vic Playing a 5 String!!

  • no

  • Probably the best bass player alive, after me. Probably.

    ( Yeah... in my dreams:D )

  • lol we all get our ideas from someone elses work. Did Victor Wooten invent music theory? Because thats where he derives his note selections from and do you think Victor wooten invented slapping and tapping? Look at Abraham Laboriel. He plays with all 5 fingers not just 3. You also halfto remember that the electric bass is only like 60 years old and Larry Graham started this slap stuff for all of us to emulate. The point is Victor didnt invent the wheel hees just spinning it and the musical modes

  • Dont get me wrong Victor is great, it just so happens that there is a whole lot of great players out there. Especially today with the internet and people being able to build on what other players have done like Victor did with Larry Graham and everybody else that influenced him. I have played for 15 years and am fortunate enough to be exposed to people like Vic and Bill Dickens and many others who have instructional videos that show you how easy it is do these things with a bass guitar.

  • no webcam

  • There isnt a single thing he is doing in this video that I cant do.

  • @BrophyBass why no uploads on your page then?

  • @BrophyBass You can play it, but can you play it first?

  • yeah they probably would get along well considering theyr both pagans...

  • i got his other stuff but this aint musical

  • *Stands up*

  • I have seen him live, it changed my musical life. I was a pretty good bass player before, but after that live experience with the flecktones, I had to step it up a notch...

  • I love how he gets creative at :45 using the knobs to make that wooing sound.

  • @GITTZA I think that's just setting the loop playback.

  • God damn it now i have to watch the whole video over again because i accidentally started reading the comments. I hate it when this happens

  • kaleidoscope by the fecktones?

    that what hes playing?

  • Hope the audience had better sound than youtubers.

Not a single note sounds good.More like shaking a toolbox in a echochamber.

  • a bit too soft sounding 4 victor

  • theres always going to be a comparison in anything. just enjoy each persons merits :)

  • There's no point in comparing Flea and Wooten !

Flea was a "god" to me when I was a teenager but that was before I opened myself to other types of music. IMO, he didn't do anything special since the mid-90's, he's only been playing the same licks over and over again.

I'd rather hear him playing the trumpet.

  • is this a Thor bass?

  • i have been looking everywhere for a video where victor wooten uses a 5 string bass

  • Victor is KING!! :)

  • Flea is great bass player but no where near the same as wooten man the guy can play more then just a funk beat like flea don't get me wrong people there both killer i just think wooten would rock him he plays by himself and sounds like a hole band somtimes lol ~

  • no one is "the best"

    ...whatever turns ya on

  • Vic Wooten is good... but he's no John Entwistle...

    Long live the OX!

  • @musoshi

John Entwistle is no Victor Wooten too...

    Victor plays Jazz Fusion...

    The Ox plays Rock...

Get real! Learn and respect the difference!

Appreciate both styles! Appreciate music by itself!

Both guitarists master their own ability of playing...

There is no better, just talent and both are talented in their own unique way...

  • I like victor wooten. I love his solo's. I think he is one of the best basist (maybe the best), but DAMN! this solo is bad. By bad im mean really, really bad. I think that he should keep fretted bass.

  • I'm sick of fucking loop pedals

  • depends.

    this is talently intertwined loops.

if its just because you dont feel like playing the other part thats bullshit.

but hes looping because he is talented enough to do all of this by himself instead of some other bassists come and stand there and play the other parts

  • @clancywiggam

You shouldn't do that to a loop pedal. Your genitals must be in tatters.

  • yea that homo was complaining

  • do i hear a guy complaining at 2:20?? if so FUCK YOU

  • idk.

sounds like he was trippin on acid

  • I love vic, but I think he's better playing fretted basses. The fretless is more Jacos area.

  • Lol its like he's in some other rythm with his head. xD

  • wow

  • probably because he is not playing a 4/4 rhythm. =)

  • seems like he's a little bit out of a 4/4 rhytm in a basic (delayed) groove...

  • can i sit down yet =P

  • what bass is that?

  • Victor's custom made 5-string Compito Fretless Bass.

  • amazing, thanks for posting.

  • wtf well tht was rather borin :P

  • That shit's just plain sick! Thank you so much for recording-uploading-sharing.

Just really enjoyable viewing and listening.

    Woot's amazing.

  • If Jimi Hendrix were still around, I think Wooten, Hendrix and Chad Smith from the Chili Peppers would make for an awesome combination.

  • i definitely agree...

  • minus chad smith

  • Agrees. He would have been better saying Dennis Chambers or Gadd.

  • @Duckulus420 hell yeah!

  • @Duckulus420

I'm thinkin Vinnie Colaiuta instead of Chad Smith and it'd be golden.

  • chad smith? youre joking right? pffff

  • @Libanass have you EVER heard any other drummers? if you think that beginner from RHCP is good try checking out ohhhhh ANY jazz drummer...the utter stupidity of your comment is astounding.....skils on drums cant go further than RHCP? are you fucking kidding me? jesus christ i hope you have learned something in the 6 months since you made this retarded comment...perfect drummer holy fuck....maybe you like him as your fave but he pretty much wouldnt even be considered a session drummer...

  • @hez1919 what the fuck is your point?

I'm a bassist not a drummer, and I think all RHCP's members don't even deserves a drummer like chad smith, yes..

I don't understand why you're talking crap all by yourself, funny..

  • @Libanass your original comment about chad is hidden...because too many people thumbs downed it...because it is a uneducated comment...i am the type of person that likes to tell idiots that they are idiots...in the hopes of MAYBE they will realise they are idiots...maybe no one has told you that chad smith actually sucks and that you are an idiot...so here i am...no thanx required :)

  • @hez1919 who the fuck do you think you are to tell me that?

and 6 month later, get a life cunt

  • @Libanass obviously i know im someone who knows more than you...if you think chad smith has all the skills then you dont know shit about what you speak...

  • @Libanass chad smith is a perfect drummer, skills on drums just can't go further...your own words...meaning he is the most skilled drummer on earth...simply he is not...which makes you an idiot of course

  • @Libanass you know what actually if you wanna think he is the best , go right ahead.....you just stay at the bottom of the musical knowledge pile where you belong :)

  • @Libanass Ignore that dumbass, he just wants some attention.

  • @Libanass and i DO like RHCP so dont come back with no BS that i prolly hate them...i just have some musical knowledge and chad smith isnt even in the top 500 drummers let alone the best ever...

  • @hez1919 uh hes definitely not the best but hes an amazing drummer

  • that was awesome...though the cameraman kinda fails, but thats ok, in awe of such an amazing player i would forget about everything around me too haha.

and the guy who said flea's better...you obviously fail...and you spelled style wrong...

  • is this a joke flea isn't nearly as technically proficient or stylistically close to victor

  • You're just an idiot. Flea himself would bow to Victor.

  • @SHnoregrets1979 fleas a different style of playing why is there need for bowing?

  • maybe not claypool though

    or John Mayung

  • @SHnoregrets1979

flea and victor play super differently. victor is technically better but i like flea's style more. i wouldn't say he'd bow to him... but they would have a hell of a jam sesh.

  • @SHnoregrets1979 And Victor would probably bow to Flea. They play different music, both are amazing bassists. You can't just comare two musicians like that.

  • @SHnoregrets1979 i dont think so, i think both respect each other... but i think wootens capacity exceeds flea's

  • @SHnoregrets1979 dude, they're both amazing musicians. Hands down.

  • @SHnoregrets1979 - or simply blow him.

  • @SHnoregrets1979 victor wooten is called the Slap Bass Master xd

  • @SHnoregrets1979 I think they would respect each other. Your talking about two dudes that love music and more specifically bass. Victor is amazing at times but flea has sold probably 50 times as many albums. I think the two would get along great

  • @SHnoregrets1979 But he is a great bass player as wel ;-)

  • o please ther is no comparison

  • ALL MY CAMERAMEN STAND STILL

  • i'm standing up right here!

  • That camera angle is making me dizzy...

  • its so funny how "fans" of music create rivalries between musicians, rivalries that dont even exist. it doesn't matter who's better. this is excellent music and he is displaying incredible musicianship.

  • yeah, like for example, jaco was one of vic's bass idols, i can't see why people have to compare them all the time.

  • exactly

  • or john and geddy... or les and john or anyone else...

  • you mean magicianship

  • haha....that works too

  • @balla428 ..couldnt agrre more...when did great musicianship become a contest???....IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @balla428 Exactly I'd prefer Flea, but Victor is just great

  • @balla428 thank you.

  • @balla428

    watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs

  • @balla428 true that, everybody has their own style n taste,n victor wooten is just amazing!!! :)

  • hmm jaco can't be touched on the fretless but i think wooten has him licked with picking style and controll of the bass. :D

  • God what a shitty rip off of jaco. Cant touch jaco on the fretless

  • I hate to say it but it's true

  • how can you say he's shit?

  • im standing

  • *Stands up*

  • makes us recall jaco...

  • Jaco often did solos of this type.

  • Some posts like this are so stupid and ill informed that I wish I could delete them.

  • thats youtube;)

  • wtf? what a dumb thing to say

  • dumb ass

  • @SHnoregrets1979

You obviously haven't heard ANY of Jaco's best solos.

  • well woote`s favourite bass player was jaco... so that i think it was like a tributo for him...=D

  • actually its a tribute to his friend who built that bass for him and died

  • Stands up

  • Kaleidoscope! Song of Hidden Land (Bela Fleck & Flecktones) AWESOME!

  • amazing. <3

  • Excellent.....

  • That's Impressive tuning with the fretless.

  • its called looping samples, hes useing an effects peddle duh

  • it sounds kind of like a fiddle at the opening part

  • Camera guy sucks

  • im suprised how many racist comments there are on here, just because hes black dose not make him different infact most people that are racist are scared that there are different colour people so they bully them

  • and i bet hes better then everyone bad mouthing him

  • best simply better than everyone

  • true

  • oh he is this guy is one of the best bassists of our time. Look at his other stuff if you've never listened to him before. I assure you you'll shit a brick. but i don't think this is his best. I don't think the fretless was a good idea. But hey check this guy out. Victor Wooten

  • fretless was a great idea. who else do you know that can play a fretless bass, much less even make it sound good

  • jaco pastorius.....

  • jaco pastorius is the best frettless bass player ever

  • ok, thats nice

  • nope. but he was very different

  • jaco...

  • not Jaco, Vic.

  • hehheh Shit a Brick is true. XD

  • colour

  • hes hitting the notes slightly off pitch. fretless might not have been the best idea for this play style

  • i have always seen good performance of this guy but this one is a mess. honestly!

  • I really love his skills but... I don't know... is it the video? the fretless? the way he plays this song? I don't like it... something's missing :/

  • what's the point? whatare you talking about?

  • who says what

  • ur a nigga and i love u

  • fuck you

  • the fact is we are all niggers now, and its about time we all wise up. until all of us are free none of us is free.

  • sure! if he let me.

  • those were not mistakes on the fretless just with out the chordes they sound weird

  • ohh yeah now i see

he also has a conklin fretless

  • miriyaa, go grow a pair

  • wow, what a stupid thing to say.

im sure vic would wish you a happy life.

    im not that way tho...

i really hope u die in a fire.

    8^)

  • ey, fuck you, miriyaa!

  • What the fuck is your problem with Victor wooten you racist gay shit? You've been saying shit on all of his vids and its not cool. Go die. Seriously just kill yourself, you won't be missed.

  • Calling a racist gay, as an insult, is very hypocritical. He isn't gay, he is just a leaky asshole.

  • Thats not cool man... VIctor is awesome yes, but thats just not cool.

  • the thing about Vic is that to me, when he plays fretted it often SOUNDS fretless...his attack is so pillow soft, going fretless doesnt seem to do his style justice.

  • I think he plays hard on fretted

  • Wooten for president

  • conklin?

  • Compito. A builder that passed away.

  • Wooten would be a good candidate to write music scores for movies.

  • i think he meant worse...victor doesn't have a worst...just not as amazing as usual. :D

and yes i know it wasn't correct grammar..im just saying he can not play badly. =D

  • Comment removed

  • This is an improvisation on the main Kaleidoscope (Flecktones) riff. If we listen what he played again with this consideration, we could find no real mistake. Everything is flawless here in my opinion. Besides, he played fretless in lots of songs both live and for albums. He is one of the best on fretless too! I recommend those Flecktones albums to everyone but a couple of videos he played fretless in could be found on Youtube such as Big Country, Breakfast Feud, Lochs of Dread, Over The Wall...

  • i agree with u s3v3rth3stars here, i did not think that was very good at all, he sounded off with the fretless.

  • But as for Victors' fretless playing...i am not feeling him!His approach is not in the class like jaco-percy jones-stanley.

  • I think a lot of people would disagree with you but hey that's your opinion

  • Your ABSOLUTELY right........this IS my opinion!@Moog167!!.

  • Playing a fretless bass is as PURE of a sound that one will play.......true intonation is KEY of playing it is ALWAYS your FEEL of this instrument for any beginner to achieve the TRUE BASS SOUND pick up an acoustic bass then that way playing any fretless electric-(or fretted by that matter), will be a BREEZE while playing!!!

  • hehe

    lets meetup! bB

  • The slapping is unequalled but the fretless needs a LOT of work.

  • The truth is that fretless bass for a "beginner" would be more difficult to sound good because of the fact that you have to care about intonation by then.

But when you're talking about the professionals... There's no such thing as "more difficult instrument".

It's a matter of personal choice and what one resonates with. Respect and understanding is what these masters understand. Unlike squabblers.

  • I think that the reason a fretless bass is harder for beginners is that most beginners don't have the ear training they need inorder to be able to hit the actual notes. The reason professionals can play fret less is that a good professional bass player like victor can play a whole song with his eyes closed all because he has had years of experience and knows what the next note from the current note he is playing should sound like.

  • And what means "better"?

Music is not a competition, music is not like football, or TV shows, music is not like olympic games. Music makes us free with creativity, and many other feelings. All musicians are winners. Music is not like dragon ball, Bigdj316 (I saw your favorites) ;)

    Oh, for those wh
