Looking back from MW3,seeing how Yuri had a thought when he looked back when he was standing next to Makarov,watching the planes fly away and he had a button to trigger the nuke... he clicked it and watched the planes twirl and explode.

After that,Yuri had another thought when he got wounded right before Makarov and his men started killing civilians and as Yuri attempted to shoot Makarov from the back, he fell down but did not die. Yuri dies in Mw3 when Price goes to kill Makarov to avenge soap.
