"Expectancy" in Hypnosis - Elman Erickson Handshake

This is quite possibly one of the best overt hypnosis tutorials on YT. It points out that you have to tell the subject 'what you want them to do'. A lot of teachers bypass this critical point, and make it look like an arm-pull or a handshake will automatically put the subject into a trance. It won't unless 'they know' what is expected of them.

Garbage. It discredits something that can actually be quite powerful (hypnosis).

Explaining hypnosis discredits it? Expectancy is the foundation of all suggestive therapy. That does not invalidate it, it simply identifies it. Expectancy has been written about by Elman, Bandler and every clinical hypnotist who has written a book on the subject. Hypnosis is not magic, and explaining various aspects of hypnosis never discredits it but rather takes thy mystery away.

I dont mean to sound obnoxious but this video seems kinda woo woo. I mean it really doesn't seem she was in any sort of trance at all really. And when she stretched out she was completely alert and i just don't see the altered state. It would seem that she was demonstration social compliance rather than anything else. But again, maybe i missed something. lol.

This is fake. These are just actors. Its a poor attempt at mind control. No one puts comments on You Tube thanking people for "a wonderful weekend". People who are blind enough to believe this already are hypnotized! :-)

Hi Richard, I really want to help people using hypnosis.. if I follow the steps as shown in your video will I have success? Or is there more to it.. I should use the three handshake induction more. I saw your old video months ago before I really knew anything (besides the most basic things), and you guys said it was a good confidence builder so I tried it. It worked (as a first induction too). Then somewhere along the line, I just stopped using it. Not sure why. But I'm going to use it again.

Either way great vid. I like how you explain why it works not just showing the method.
